I will leave this reminder as a sticky because tthis is often a thread that new members (or new Hermès lovers) post on - hopefully temporarily.

agree yikes but also her fault for spending over and over again thinking something would change. you know like the definition of insanity. I would have stopped after the first FSH experience
Agree! Unfortunately, I think this is going to be the “new normal” in Paris.
In fact, based on my personal experience getting a leather appt and a QB offer in Paris has become consistently more and more difficult over the past 2-3 years.

I read through her comments on Reddit and she has successfully gotten bags in the past using this strategy (spending in other departments and asking for an appointment). It's like gambling - you're always chasing that first big win :amuse:

If she spent that insane amount of money, she’d most likely get offered a qb at her local store. Paris is usually for those who just want to try their luck (like me who dont have the money to spnd 50k in a few days) 😂

From the looks of it, she wanted to play the game/gamble. Otherwise, she would have just stopped. :(

I think that’s the case, she posted that she just received a blue box offer earlier this year from her local store and her SA has something else waiting for her when she returns. It seems to me that she has a healthy spend at her local store, and wanted Paris to be something extra.

I applaud anyone who posts about negative experiences - they have nothing to gain from it except setting realistic expectations for others :)

Lord. I can’t believe I’m saying this because obviously we are all here spending a ton of money, but lord! She already has tons of bags according to her, wth is she chasing with a $50k random spend??? This is very much giving that blonde, Australian, influencer (Melissa?) who went with her friend to the vip appt and has warehouses full of luxury bags and rtw. At some point the consumption is too much, even for me.

Eh, she’s not kicking and screaming about it, so I don’t understand the criticism 🤷🏻‍♀️

Doing it for clout and content is one thing, but she’s just an anonymous person spending her own money and taking the rejection with grace. If anything, she comes across as level-headed to me.

Just read this recent experience with Paris on Reddit. Yikes!

Well, if she had read any of the advice you and others give here, and also the advice of the hotel concierge (this advice is echoed in many top Parisian hotels) she would have saved that spend for the local store. I hope that she purchased stuff she liked, and I do think it’s beneficial for others to read about her experience. If one wants a bag, I don’t recommend gambling like this. But, and pls no one flame me (I do not do this), if someone were to try to get the attention of a non local boutique; manager; leather desk; (it’s not really up to the average FSH SA), perhaps consider spending the cash at one shot. Again, I don’t recommend this, but if one really wants to throw money on a gamble, buying one item for 50K (or even sticking to one store, one SA) would garner more buzz than stringing it out.

I don’t get it. A brand new BK doesn’t cost anything more than $25K on the resale market. Why stretch the spend to $50K and lament about not having scored an offer?

But what’s intriguing me more is why a high spender like her with past purchase across different metiers hasnt been “picked up” or “adopted” by any of the past leather SAs. Surely they would have identified a high-spending customer with long term potential after looking at her profile. What went awry?

And I agree with @880. A one-time large spend would be more impactful.

Based on my own experience, a €15K - €25K spend with my regular Paris SA (who helps me across metiers) would have garnered me a good QB offer. I hope I don’t come across as bragging. I’m just trying to highlight how spending $50K (approx €46K) is just OTT. Regular customers who stay loyal to a singular Parisenne SA would have spent just a fraction of what this lady did.

Yikes is right. I watched a YouTube video with a woman who went to FSH this spring in a tracksuit and clicked with an SA who helped her get a leather appt. In the video, she shared that she saw many desperate attempts like crying and screaming at the leather desk during this visit. This SA was able to get her this appt even though they rejected everyone else. Although she did not score a bag, it’s possible for random magic to happen.

How does one get “picked up” by a leather SA in Paris? Do you have to successfully get an appointment first, purchase a bag, then build a rapport from there?
You don’t necessarily need a leather SA. There are SAs who can help you across departments including leather

some possible ways

long standing, regular client of the house who has gotten to know various charges de clientele and who shops by appt;

High net worth individual or someone the maison has determined they would like to cultivate as a regular client

Some people believe high spend is key, but my SAs have always told me that it simply doesn’t matter bc there is no commission. From this thread, I’m not sure that being local makes a difference either.
