I honestly think it really is a lottery...random. I have an account in Paris and have purchased various items (RTW, shoes, silks, fine jewelry) at all threes stores over the years. When we were in Paris for five weeks last spring, we applied most days and never 'won' the lottery. We did end up with a walk-in appointment thanks to DH's persistence but I remain convinced that the lottery is exactly that.
To be honest, I think walk-in appointments are more random compared to appointments made through online booking systems. Three years ago, my French friend and I spent almost our entire Wednesday visiting both Sevres and FSH stores. It was through a walk-in visit that my friend managed to secure an appointment for herself at FSH for Friday. When we went for the appointment, she ended up purchasing a B25 for me. What's interesting is that the person who sold us the bag was an intern; technically, she didn't even have the authority to sell the bag, and it was her last day of internship. Everything truly happened by chance.

Does anyone have experience ordering online for in store pick up in Paris? I’m wondering if it’s possible to get the VAT refund for an online purchase.
I have done it several times at various stores. The last time in December at FSH they processed the VAT without having to do a return. There was even a dedicated SA to retrieve and handle online orders. It was an easy process.

Thank you! Did you just tell them at pick up that you’d like to process the VAT refund?

Thank you for your very kind and informative post, @880 and @periogirl28! I always feel like I have learnt something new every time I read each of your posts!

How would you define having a good relationship with the SA, in your opinion and based on your experience? Would you happen to have any examples or pointers for reference for us to perhaps draw some reference from so that we will roughly know our “standing” in our SA’s pool of clients?

Thank you. I enjoy shopping and have fun talking (at length) to my SA, but it’s not necessary if that’s not your style. For the purpose of Paris SAs, and with a nod to the fact that most on this thread want a BKC, a solid client might be:

1) whether one has any real interest in metiers beyond BKC. I don’t think single time prespend on non BKC metiers is the same. And, I think Parisian SAs can tell the difference

2) whether one has the potential to be a regular client of the house, even if BKC were not on the table. By regular, I believe twice yearly might be the minimum for someone starting now, but there are always exceptions
(When the SA took down our contact info, I asked if she was interested if we only contacted her about 2X yearly and got an affirmative)

3) whether that potential can be grown in different or larger directions (my SAs have told me that the fact that both DH and I are regular clients — on one acct and through different metiers — is noted and appreciated. I am actually DH’s plus one lol.

4) I think it helps that DH and I shop Hermes RTW and MtM. This is bc a RTW client (unlike a bag or even homeware or jewelry client) can be counted upon, throughout every season, every year, so long as the items are of interest. Hermes has essentially communicated as much (the Parisian tailor and the head of MtM was there when DH had his first (I forget what they called the equivalent of men’s MtM trunk show) appointment

Pls know that this is simply my own experience; there can obviously be many answers to your question, all different ; YMMV

ETA: one of my friends who is very adept at pre booked bag acquisition appts in Paris would almost rather spend her time in the Hermes museum rather than the boutique, and her SA happens to really enjoy talking to her about that. In the end, genuine interests are hard to fake

Forgot to add that I don’t actually go shopping with particular things in mind. There is no list. I do expect my SAs to understand my taste. they get this very quickly based on various cues like what I wear and what I have (I do show them pics of what I have)

Hi everyone! I’ve been following this thread for a few years and wanted to share my non-QB success story. I’m trying to be detailed, so it’ll be long:

I was in Paris for a week, and applied daily with no results. After having a beautiful and lovely week in both Marseille and Paris, I dedicated my last day to Hermès. I lined up at FSH before opening and walked around for a second to muster some courage 😂 After people had cleared out, I politely (in French) asked for any availability. The host asked me to come back and try again at noon.

I came back at noon and a different hostess instructed me that the store was very behind on appointments and I could try to come back at 3pm. At this point, I really debated coming back for a 3rd time. I thought it could be a run-around, but having done everything I wanted to on my vacation I went back at 3.

When I came back, the line was 5 people long. They were dressed FABULOUSLY—all with beautiful quota bags. Every single one was denied an appointment. I lost a lot of hope when I saw them all get denied. Somehow, I caught the eye of the 10:30am host I spoke with at the stand and they smiled at me. I immediately took that as my signal and went over. I said (in French) hello again and that I was told to try coming back at 3. They said they remembered me and instructed me to “follow them”. I still feel like the luckiest person ever for getting a walk-in leather appointment.

While I was waiting on a leather sales associate to help me, I realized that the host never asked me what bag I was looking for. I took that as my opportunity to shoot my shot again and ask for a B25 or B30. When I asked, I said “I know this is absolutely impossible”. The sales associate replied very positively and didn’t immediately say “no BKC” like I’ve seen many times in this thread. To be quite honest, a Mini Kelly is likely waiting for me at my home store and the whole point of my attempt at a leather appointment was to get a beautiful Arçon bag. BUT! It’s a freaking leather appointment at THE Hermès so of course I’m going to ask for my first Birkin!

The SA wanted me to practice my French (very kind) so we spoke in French for a bit and I told them my color preferences. I took a big risk, and when they asked if that’s “all I was looking for” I said yes. They said “if I come back empty handed, you’ll be okay with this”? I said “yes. I’m just happy to be here.”

They came back with 3 boxes in 10 minutes. I knew as soon as they left that I had made some mistakes with my preferences. I was too wishy washy on 25 or 30, and didn’t even specify hardware. Regardless, they came back with a mini jypsiere, an Evelyne, and a Geta bag. I tried them on and we talked about colors and leathers. I think I showed a lot of love/knowledge for the brand at that time and they enjoyed it. I then politely asked for an Arçon bag and was immediately brought out the most beautiful bag I’ve ever seen. It was exactly what I wanted: Arçon in Barenia + Barenia Faubourg.

At the end of the day, I feel so excited to have had the experience and got to shoot my shot. I took home a gorgeous bag that I’m going to love forever. It was a beautiful and lovely day. Thank you to all of you guys for the tips, pointers, and encouragement.

Note about FSH: I have seen a lot of people complaining about how “rude” sales associate are there. To be very straightforward, I have never had a more lovely experience at Hermès (besides my home store). I made small talk with at least 5 different SAs and talked about everything with them from D-Day 😂 to the weather in the UK. I visited the store 3 times (+ 3 various days for various items) and literally the sales associates were SMILING at me. Sometimes, you get what energy you give 🤷🏽‍♀️

What amazing luck!!! What do you think made you stand out that day amongst all the other rejected guests?

Hopefully we will see a picture of your bag on the offers thread!

If you order from the website for store pickup, the timing can vary a bit. I've ordered prior to my leaving home ( 2 weeks) and both had an email saying it is at the store ready for pick up after 7 days and also had the items not arrive in 2 weeks. I think it may just depend on getting it from a warehouse, to Paris etc. Ordering while in Paris for pickup within the next few days is dicey.
I can't remember exactly what the email says for time to pickup, but must be 2-3 weeks after it is delivered to store.
I've also ordered to ensure that a particular item in my size will be available, but if it is miraculously on the floor, I'll try it on etc. with the SA. If I take it, I just ask them to cancel/do a return on my duplicative order.
We will be in Paris in July, so I am also considering ordering items from the French website as well. When I first attempted to shop on a website that’s not US (Canadian to be precise), I couldn’t complete the purchase because I didn’t have a CC with a Canadian billing address. Does that restriction apply to their French website as well?

It would have been very hard, if not impossible, for me to have started a relationship in the present time

Thank you for your candor ❤️

one of the leather SAs whom I got on well with during a leather appt extended her mobile number to me for future visits. I took it as a sign that she’s taking me on as her regular client and stuck to her loyally. She’s now my forever SA

It’s interesting that you said that, because the girl from Reddit had 3 SAs extending their phone number to her. Perhaps she will get lucky on her next visit and it’s just a matter of wanting a bag too quickly?

My disappointment was really confounded by the fact that my SA at home was very much of the attitude that I'd get a bag in Paris and, thus, they didn't have to worry about me right now

I’m so confused by this comment. How could your SA be so sure that you can get an appointment in Paris?
