I will leave this reminder as a sticky because tthis is often a thread that new members (or new Hermès lovers) post on - hopefully temporarily.

Everyone who posts here is so lovely, sane, and thoughtful. I have an odd curiosity about the people who are making the Paris SAs lives so difficult...who are these folks, why do they want an iconic bag, why are they willing to cause a scene in a store?

I picked a bag up from spa the other day (here in Paris) and it came back in a big orange box. My DH innocently wanted to open the box right there on the floor to see the bag, and I said "absolutely not, you won't believe what will happen". One of my SAs heard that, turned utterly pale, and said "Oh no no no please don't do that. I can't even let the label on this box be seen."
Then we both had to explain to DH the chaos that would ensue if a Birkin or Kelly box was opened out in the open! The SA had some horror stories! Apparently there would always be at least one person who would go as high as they could to management and corporate to ask why we had a bag and they didn't, and always several people who would rush the box. :wtf: (And this isn't me getting a bag offer! I bought this bag eight months ago in a completely different store.)
I snuck out of H with my box like a criminal
❤️
while I was walking around, there were many visibly upset women pouting, disappointed, and verbally angry. I was embarrassed for them.

Unfortunately this has been going on for decades even when we used to messily "queue" at the leather counters 15 years ago. The FSH experience varies widely.
I get it but if someone is so desperate for a bag to make a scene (over the age of 3) then avoid it and go reseller route. I have been shopping FSH for several years, never have I seen it like this year. Cray

In late May I saw the same lady complaining bitterly for 2 days in a row at the leather desk. It was painful to listen to and I cannot go into details but her woes didn't even made sense. I'll stop now.

On one hand i think this is crazy however last year at the leather appointment desk in fsh weren’t very friendly to me when all I wanted to do was to look at a few display bags to see if it would work for me. I personally think they should not require you to get an appointment if you are just trying to get an idea of sizing.

Thankfully a nice slg sa let me try on two bags and I learnt which worked and didn’t for my local store wishlists.

Out of curiosity did you have a pre-spend before this appointment? I have tried now on three different trips where I got an appointment but they had no bags to offer not even a picotin, mini Evelyn etc. So I'm curious now how much of a pre-spend might help to secure a bag for those lucky enough to score an appointment.
Hi sorry for the late response. No pre-spend before the appointment. I had purchased a cashmere shawl, a pair of Orans and Roulis in 2018 & 2019 only.

Goodness, how disheartening. Makes one wonder if it’s even worth the effort of visiting a Paris store (and presumably going at the weekend would be madness  ). Is there a store that is less feral than the others or is it the same all over?

I think it's always worth visiting just to see what's on display, as generally what is on display in FSH/Sèvres is an advanced information of what could be available a few months later in other boutiques worldwide...but yes, if you can visit during a morning on a week day, your experience will be much more pleasant than at 3pm on a saturday ! Sèvres is bigger and less cramped than FSH, and the SA are generally nicer (mostly by virtue of being less harassed, and it is not a systematic rule...)

I remember once in Sèvres where we were My wife and I, our 2 children, and 2 SA's crammed inside a fitting room, so our SA could show us a Kelly...and then looking for a matching twilly, our SA let us go back in the store, but not with the bag, just with the shoulder strap inside its dustbag to have the color reference, but not the actual bag "to avoid troubles in the store"....

Yep...you can't really even take a bag you own to find a twilly. But I do want to point out that while FSH is the worst, this happens elsewhere. I put my bag down in Madison (while waiting on a chair) and someone literally reached for it and asked how much it cost.

I would not want to discourage anyone from visiting though. The Paris stores are beautiful, they are each different, and you will see things , at least on display, that are rare to see elsewhere (Picnics and Shadows for instance are usually out these days). The scarf selections are also really broad and if you ask you can often find older designs. @Koucs is right, come in the morning on a weekday if possible. There are some great breakfast places near all three stores!

It’s not that bad. My wife took out her mini Kelly yesterday to try on a few twillies..

Feral is the perfect word for it, also pandemonium. To be fair though I'm usually visiting at busy times of year, Christmas and summer, so you can imagine how busy they all get. In my experience FSH is the craziest. The amount of bad behaviour on display is eye opening. No idea how the poor SAs cope.( have seen utter shenanigans at my local store too, not just Paris) I enjoy going, like others have said to enjoy the eye candy, and to perhaps buy something small and interesting that I might not find at my local store. I never try for a leather appointment. I can happily walk around seeing all the wonderful pieces for ages. No stress involved. But I'm aware how lucky I am with my home store, it must be very stressful if you have to rely on getting a leather appointment and hitting it off with an SA at these stores if it's you're only way of getting a bag. Good luck to everyone trying xx

Absolutely worth it! The craziness was comical but only a very small portion of the whole store, for us. The amount of bags on display alone makes it worth visiting! There are also some very stylish people! I loved seeing the clients bags too. Fsh was definitely the bigger prettier store but I preferred the calmness and less traffic at Sevres(which is also a beautiful store).
