I will leave this reminder as a sticky because tthis is often a thread that new members (or new Hermès lovers) post on - hopefully temporarily.

Hello everyone! First time poster on this thread (long time lurker). Just wanted to say how incredibly helpful your posts are. I am heading to Paris in mid-December. I have always wanted a winter Christmas holiday in Europe (I am from Australia) and this holiday has been 2 years in the making (thanks to covid!!). I am hopeful that going during a less-touristy time might play in my favour of scoring a QB however I assume Christmas being around the corner is not great! Would love to hear of anyone’s experience shopping around that time of the year.

Mid-December is not less-touristy in Paris! Quite the opposite! That being said, from my own experience (as a local), stores are very busy but they usually have a pretty good stock during this time of year, I got a B35 and K28 in December a few years ago. Good luck and I hope Paris will treat you well!

So I was just in paris over the weekend. I stood in line at
George v for shoes and was sent upstairs where I waited for about 15 mins for a SA to help me. I asked her for the shoes I had in mind and she told me they had none of them in stock in my size. I then proceeded to tell her how I really wants the Geta and she said she would see what she could do. About ten mins later she came back with the Geta in black with gold hardware, I was super excited and made the purchase right away.

The next day, I secured my self an appt at FSH. I was super excited and had been trying for several days along with my husband and daughter, but I was the only one to actually get an appointment. I thought for sure I would be able to purchase a kelly or a birkin as I was open to any size or color.

I went to my appointment on July 30th at 10:30 am when the store opens. I proceed to tell the sa my wish list along with color size and leather. After waiting for about 20 mins he came back with a 24/24 in 29 inch. Told me a all the birkin sa and Kelly’s were sold out and to try on the first of the month. I told him that was in two days and today was my last day in Paris and two days shouldn’t make a difference. I was very disappointed and felt like I wasted time. It was not a fun experience at all especially knowing how everyone was able to secure themselves their dream bags.

That's horrible! I'm so sorry to hear of your (and @rsen's experience - although the Geta is a wonderful bag!!!)

I feel so bad for our community here who made it all the way to Paris and (a) didn't get an appointment or (b) didn't get anything from an appointment. What a rollercoaster ride. We were lucky to get an appointment at Sevres earlier this year after a very serious effort (and visting 9 of the French boutiques), but did not get a QB there

And then there's this ******** article, where the author managed to get 2 walk-in appointments and 8? 9? leather items, including 1 K, 1 mini C, 1 KP, 3 (3!) mini evies, and others (with a part 2 article coming!). All during Fashion Week.

IMO you were extremely lucky to have gotten a geta on the first day. normally an appt is required for any bag, and the geta is very popular. Sadly an appt doesn’t guarantee a BKC, and many people are not able to obtain dream bags. I have no idea if this is the case, but i wonder if your purchase history popped up that you had just received a popular non QB the day before without the appt. IDK if that makes a difference or not. Certainly there are people who are luckier, (I’m not sure what to think about the ******** purchases, but I personally find it depressing to think that way). JMO and YMMV.

Incredible. Why did this lady (and her daughter) need to buy so many bags all at once? And they basically lied when they first tried and got a walk-in appt, then once they’d already got a bunch of QBs and non-QBs from this appt they then tried AGAIN for a second appt to buy more (and succeeded)?? Many who are lucky enough to get an appt are told ‘no stock’ and yet these 2 were showered with multiple offers of the most popular styles and were allowed to buy so many! Was the SA or Hermès FSH having a fire sale on those 2 days?

I also found it annoying how the writer kept saying ‘she flipped for this bag’, ‘I did not flip for it’. No idea what this means but to me it just sounds like ‘flipping for profit’, which would be fitting given how many bags they hoarded. It probably isn’t what she meant, but annoying nonetheless.

@unsacspec i second what @_gelato_ said! Wear that you usually wear with the colors your wear the most. This gives the SA an idea of the colors he/she can offer you in case they don’t have your first option… It happened to me, I wore what I usually wear: jeans and polo shirt and had a sweater tied on my shoulders and sneakers, inadvertently I had blue tones on my clothing and shoes…. I asked for neutrals on GHW (black, greys and gold) she didn’t have the colors I asked but she brought out “royal Blue because I saw it from your clothing, maybe blue is your favorite color?” Which yes, blue is my fav color
So, yes, wear YOUR colors, SA Can gauge your preference, it will help SA to find alternatives for you!
Good luck!
This made me smile because one of my favorite colors is blue. I wore royal blue pants in the store one day and got offered a Royal Blue/Bleu Royal bag too! So yes, SAs observe clients.

Agreed. To have an SA come out trip after trip after trip of bag offers certainly doesn’t reflect any of the experiences we’ve read here, especially since she mentions she’s not some vvip with decades of buying history. (Maybe she mentioned she’s a writer?)

I really credit that website for having a lot of good info that I’ve learned from, but this author’s experience seemed a bit off to me. We’re told that everyone’s H journey is different and that we should never compare, but I was inspired by the recent comments to put myself as another data point that my Paris trip was nothing like this article’s.

Mods: I know these forums have been positive AND critical of everything from specific influencers to specific sites and to, of course, specific products and brands, but I also understand that this community is very small, and I again reiterate how much both this forum and that site mean to me in terms of my education and everyday entertainment. If inappropriate, please delete these recent comments. Thanks.

I follow this topic out of interest and don't think I've ever read about SA keep bringing quota bags to choose from (yeah, saw let's say 2 but this???)
