Best of luck to you, @QuelleFromage. You are such a fount of H knowledge (customs, etc.) that I always look forward to your posts and to your insights and intel.
We have one short trip to NYC coming up. We are seniors, so we're the group that is most susceptible. But I think the spread of the virus will only get worse thru the next couple of months. You can't go when everybody and their brother is ill. But now is only the start of the virus spread. I agree with your concern about plane travel, but we're not hearing a lot at this time about people getting infected from planes, JMO. And supposedly for 80 percent of people, especially those who not older, it's a mild condition. So, I hope it's appropriate to say to you, "Bon Voyage!"
Thank you so much! That’s so kind of you to say in so many ways
I actually awoke on the day of flight to find out that the company I was meeting with had ceased all non-essential travel, and so I cancelled my flight with just a couple hours’ notice. Now that the Louvre has closed I’m feeling this won’t be such a fun week in Paris after all, and for Paris shopping I was actually only after a Loewe mini puzzle which I can buy in the US.
‘Personally again I am less worried about the virus than getting stuck somewhere when borders close and/or flights are cancelled, but if I really wanted to travel it wouldn’t deter me.
NYC so far seems in good shape. And such a wonderful city! I wish you safe travels as well!

Since Paris is a city that you have such familiarity with, you'll have another opportunity..
A great exhibition at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs that your review of would have been great

Thinking of visiting Paris in the summer and hoping to score a Birkin. I’ve read some significant purchases might allow for a Special Order? For example if I purchase a $30-40k piece of jewelry would that open the doors to a special order if I can’t even get a regular appointment with the leather dept?

they might offer you a bag, if you’re lucky an exotic or maybe a limited piece but for SO you can never really know, it wont hurt to ask while purchasing. To be honest i like to be straight forward specially if your spending that much.

In an update from me, my DH stopped into FSH in between his business meetings this morning. I am still at the hotel. He spoke to a kind woman in the leather dept and told her we had been trying to get an appointment but have had no luck. He mentioned tomorrow is my birthday as well and he hoped to buy my first Hermes bag. She asked him to wait. He waited for about 30 minutes (I was going crazy with anticipation as he was texting me updates). She returned with a card and told him we have an appointment tomorrow at 4:00 ☺️ I am so excited!!!! Even if we are unsuccessful it has been so much fun. Definitely an experience we will never forget. I’ll update tomorrow.

A jewelry purchase of that amount will likely help you get a SO at your home store. Remember that if you SO in Paris, you are required to pick it up in Paris whenever it is ready. There have been varied experiences on the forum of being give a strict time limit for retrieval of SOs from FHS after their surprise arrival as well.

My Update:
Success!!! It’s a beautiful day here in Paris after some rainy and windy weather. DH and I spent the day walking and exploring the city. So beautiful. We heard there was going to be a strike later this afternoon which would cause traffic headaches and delays. Luckily we were on foot. We arrived about 10 minutes early for our 4:00 appointment. We checked in at the desk and then waited about 30 minutes. I was too nervous to explore the store so I stayed close the desk but DH wandered around. They called our name and we met our SA who was so sweet. Super friendly and was asking about my past experience with Hermes. Was this my first bag etc. She took us upstairs to the fine jewellery room. It was only us there and the security guard. She asked us if we wanted a drink. We had some water. And then she asked what I was looking for. I told her a Birkin, 35 cm in a neutral colour. She asked if I had a preference in hardware which I didn’t. She then said to wait and she would be back. I was so excited and nervous. I couldn’t really move at first. DH explored the room and looked at all the amazing jewellery. i managed to join him and take it all in. Incredible!!!
We waited for about 20 minutes. When she returned she had one huge box, one shoe box sized box, three twillies and a etoupe Bearn wallet. So I was pretty excited that there was a Birkin in that box.
She said it was the last neutral Birkin they had. If I didn’t like this one she could so me a yellow or green. She opened the box and is was a 35 cm in chocolat, Togo leather with gold hardware. I absolutely love it. The colour is amazing, it changes colour in the different lights. I am in love!! She then showed me an organizer and the twillies. I took the organizer and one twilly. I don’t need a wallet so I passed. Now I regret not getting another twilly and the wallet. Will have a look at duty free tomorrow.
She told us due to the strike she couldn’t have the bag sent to the hotel but would give us a white bag to walk with discreetly. We paid and she gave us her card in case we return. It was a wonderful experience. Here are some quick photos (hope they work) I am still on cloud nine.

Congratulations on your success with such a dreamy B!!!! It’s beautiful - and also Happy Birthday  so happy you got the neutral bag you wanted.

I also have the same twilly but in blue! Matching

In regards to having regrets about the wallet/twilly, you never know what you can find in duty free.

Congrats on getting your first H bag! What a wonderful husband. Sometimes H magic works like that.

I do love calvis (have a bunch already), and my Clic H card holder is my favorite. I really want to get a mini Bearn wallet (they are hard to come by, at least in smaller stores). Compact bearns, compact constance, compact silk'in (which NP mentioned in her great article recently) are also all on my wishlist. If you see the Jungle Love Love twillies in a colorway you love, grab it!

Enjoy the rest of your trip and thank you for sharing your story!
