I noticed my black BV was getting a little dry. I didnt put any apple guarde moisturizer on it; I wanted to see how it would do just with an overall spray. I think if the corners look dry tomorrow I might do some spot treatment, let it absorb, then do a second coat of spray.

There are many recommendation on protectant and sprays. Are there any good product for spot treatment? I've noticed a slight darkening of leather where the opening of the bag is. I think it is due to the zipper being a darker metal. Any advice would be high appreciated!

;)

hmm just got the new Turquoise Large Belly bag and was wondering if people have used meltonian spray on the brighter color bottega veneta bags?

(i had a nightmarish experience with my last BV bright color--cobalt blue cabat--beautiful color but when i was out in a light light sprinkle, it bled all over my tan color Burberry jacket!!)

so im wondering if meltonian/leather sprays/protectants do BOTH protecting the bag from getting dirty/discolored AS WELL AS protecting the bag from staining your clothes etc?

I'm a newbie to BV. But from my Bal experience and loving checking Bal maintenace forum, a water protectant spray seems good for both ways. When a member had a color bled problem to her hands from the handles, a very experienced member recommended to use a water protectant spray. I think it applies to BV too!:smile1:

thanks so much!! i may try the meltonian spray on my BV turquoise bag then...cos my other two BV bags are darker and not in lambskin...

hopefully this helps with color bleeding from the bag and onto the bag from other things hehe

I can't really offer anything very useful, but I was in BV today and the SA showed me a zippy calfskin wallet. When I asked her how to care for it, she said to just use natural cleaner because it's really dirt resistant "because of something about the weave."

I was really confused but honestly she didn't seem all that knowledgeable. Does anyone know what exactly they do with the weave to make it dirt resistant? Is it a treatment of the leather or the way they do the weaving?

Newbie to Bottega Veneta here!
Recently bought a beautiful, preloved tote. It's a tiny bit faded and rough in the corners.
What should I use on it? or should I send it to a handbag spa?
Unfortunately here in Ireland we don't have a BV store, so bringing in to ask an opinion (or send it to a BV shop for repair) is not really an option.

see the attached pics.
THanks a million!

I've tried both the Meltonian Water & Stain protector and the Apple Garde Rain & Stain Repellent. My observation:

They both have a strong chemical scent when you spray them on the exterior of the bags ( tried them on all my BVs, nappa and the goat skin specchio ). No remarkable change on the leather. Though I'm not brave enough to try and do any water testing. I was more concerned if it will darken the leather, it did not.

Interior - Apple Garde, the suede interior of the bag slightly darkened.
- Meltonian, no change.

Exterior - Apple Garde, the leather glistened with the spray after application. Left to stand for 12 hrs., i buffed with a buffing cloth. Looks same as before application.
- Meltonian, the leather appeared to have a slight whitish film after spray application but after 12 hrs. and buffing this also disappeared. Looks same as before application.

Test Subject: for Meltonian - Intrecciato Tote, Copper East West Belly, Veneta Ash Scuro
for Apple Garde - Large Campana Ebano, Balenciaga City 09/ Part Time 09

HTH!:smile1:
This is very helpful, excessbaggage. Did you use only water & stain protector OR also with leather lotion?

Do we need to mosturize BV bags?

Is this the product for protection?

Any help on this please? TIA

I'm a newbie BV user. I hope someone more experienced member will chime in later. From my Bal experience, if you feel dryness your leathers, I would recommend you to use a leather moisturizer. Otherwise just water protectant is fine.

I tried a few protectants except Meltonian, I would recommend Vectra. It's the least smelly one for me. All the products' smell will go away, when they dry. But you need to deal with the smell, when you spray. It's easier to spray if it doesn't have a strong smell!:D

Hi, can someone please advise how to take care my new BV bag? It is an Intrecciato Nappa Veneta Mini Ponza Devore style bag, so it has both silk and leather. Which kind of spray should I use? Thanks a lot!

I bought the Meltonian spray, but the SF SA told me not to spray anything to the BV bags since BV already protects them. Therefore, I haven't done anything to mine

I am also a newbie owner of a BV Intrecciato leather tote in brown. The sale assistant told me that I don't need to spray anything on it to protect. I have read so many comments here about protecting the leather with a waterproof product. Please advise because I am so confused now. Should I spray or should I not?
Any advise is welcome. Thank you so much.

Hi there! I am a usually a Chloe gal, but as of late I have been lurking and stalking and drooling over the Bottega bags in this forum. :smile1:

Le Sigh.

I have found a pre-loved BV in camel, but the handle is quite dark with wear. Before I would take a leap and purchase, I thought I would ask you ladies how well these lighter bags clean (if taken to a professional). I have no problem holding out on pulling the trigger and waiting for my Princess Charming to come along at a later date... ha!
