the montaigne is such a beautiful bag. if it doesn't bother you then you can just enjoy as is but if you aren't happy then bring her in and maybe even change the lining. the bag is tdf.

You may want to try one of the refrigerator boxes of baking soda...the ones with mesh on both sides. Put it in inside and close the bag for a few days. It absorbs most odors. I sent a bag to BV for an outside problem not even asking them to look at the inside ink stains and it came back stain free.

Moving this to the care subforum....

I echo the BV option. They will recondition and deodorize for you. The option LLA mentions will definitely improve on the odor.

Well, today I went to my local BV and they are sending it off to be reconditioned and deodorized as the perfume smell is getting to me. I am keeping my fingers crossed but as I found this at a consignment shop and negotiated down to $500 I figure it can only get better!! I will keep you posted. I have taken before pics and will post as well as the after pics once I get it back.

i'm thinking about getting a Knot in satin. is the satin high maintenance? anything i'd need to be aware of?

I think a satin Knot is as high maintenance as any satin bag would be. Lighter colors would be more susceptible to show hand grime, dirt, water marks, and stains. Any color satin would show snags and pulls, so be careful not to get it caught on anything (including any rough skin or fingernails).

I have a satin Knot in the antilope color (champagne-gold sort of color). I only use it a few times a year, and I treat it with care, so it still looks fine.

I have a question about deodorant rubs. I have a Sloane, and it sits high up against under my arm. I am SO careful with my bags, and I noticed that a little bit of deodorant rubbed onto the leather (I was wearing a sleeveless shirt). I got most of it out, but I was wondering if a leather conditioner would take out the slight haze? I am positively sick over it, and its not that bad, but I so love my BV. ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!

I've never had this occur, but I'd hesitate applying a leather conditioner before getting all of the stain out first. What did you use to clean it? I don't actually know the answer, but I would contact a leather care specialist (my local shoe repair guy knows a lot about leather, stains, and products in general, as well as a lot of years of experience). Barring that, you can contact your retailer or BV directly and inquire, too, though going through BV might take a few days or longer to get a proper response.

Wow thanks blueiris. I gently rubbed it with a white cotton cloth, and now there are about 10 pleats (quilts) that have the slightest white haze. I called BV yesterday and they immediately told me that they would have to see it, and to use a cotton cloth to blot. They advised me not to use water, and I don't want to use any products on it myself, so your right, I will head to the BV store. Thank you so much for your advice.

You're welcome (though I'm not sure I helped much). I'm sure BV will know what to do when they see it. Please update us on how it turns out!

what kind of treatment do you use on your exotic bags? Looks like most of the people use appleguard, any comments? thks!

I have always used Collonil on my high end bags since they have a product for every type of leather and they have been manufacturing care products for over 100 years. The other product I have used is Saphir but it is very hard to find in North America.

how exactly do you use the spray? do you just spray and let it dry or do you have to do more? also, my gf has some balenciagas that she has used for 3 years and has signs of wear and tear.. does it work for used bags or should it be applied right from the beginning to have effect?

so which spray works the best?

I used a few products and settled with Vectra now. It's the least smelly spray for me. Also it can be used to Suede, too. I usually do two coats. One coat, let it dry completely for a day. Then another coat. It's the same to my Bals, too. If your friend's Bal is dry, I would recommend her to moisturize it first. Then spray it. I have never tried, but it seemed many member tried and had great results with Leather Honey to moisturize Bals. Here is a link. http://forum.purseblog.com/balencia...her-honey-conditioner-moisturizer-673062.html

Good luck!
