Hi Cats!

The Speedy 25 (pre B) is the first designer bag I ever bought. I still have mine although I don't carry it. Audrey Hepburn carried it and the 25 size was made specially for her....so that's some great heritage. I do kind of feel it's a heritage LV has done everything they can to tarnish, kind of the way Tiffany doesn't mean what it meant in Audrey's day. I have also owned an Epi Alma, which I loved, and an Haute Popincourt, which like LoveEmAll's similar bag, fell apart, and LV would not repair it. So I don't love their service and to me the prices and snobbery (the stores around me are much worse than H stores for snottiness) are out of sync with today's quality.
My other issue is that there are SO many fakes and frankly the canvas is incredibly easy to fake - so you see these bags, especially the monogram, everywhere and I don't think there's any longer any assumption that they are real.

I wrestle with this too because I like the Alma BB in Epi and have been wanting one, and I like how indestructible the Damier canvas is (I like the Damier Ebene much better than the monogram) and I would not mind some Epi SLGs or pochettes. I don't live in snow country but if I did I would not bring out any H except my Evie, so I get it.
My throw-around duffel is a Clare Vivier Escale, but that's not necessarily "luxe" at the level you're seeking. Maybe something from Martin Margiela or Rick Owens that will look even better if it falls in snow?

I used to purchase LVs but after reading "DeLux: how luxury lost its luster" (fab book by nytimes fashion lady) I would personally never buy anything from them again. The quality is just not acceptable for me for the prices...and much of it is made in China despite being labeled as made in France, etc.

That said, I do think the style of the speedy is so practical and great. I have never been able to part with it. It was one of the first designer bags I purchased so it holds s special place.

I read that book too (got a recommendation from someone on this forum) & I was shocked to find out that 'made in France' doesn't mean 'handmade or higher quality.'

The author made a point of saying that Hérmes handbags are the only ones that are still handmade in France. The truth makes me sad![emoji24][emoji24]

Forgot to mention have you thought about goyard? The Boeing 30 is comparable to speedy 30 and has adjustable handles. It is a little more in price but you get some of the same functionality and it is just as tough.

My first designer bag was a LV piano that I purchased late high school or early college years. I saw that it was a cute, functional tote with the interior cell pocket easy to reach. I also have a speedy 25 with the push lock-in stead of key and lock and wanted a hand held bag instead of a shoulder tote. I still use my keepall for traveling locally. And I still use my white multicolor Shirley to events that I leave my seat and belongings unattended (I shouldn't - please don't flame me, but I don't particularly want to haul my bag out to a wedding dance floor with me). My wapity has a special place in my heart since it was a gift from my dad while my family traveled to Vegas. I love my H bags and nonH bags. For some odd reason I still can't bring myself to wear my Kelly out nor plume. Maybe because they are both box calf and I'm worried about spilled drinks. Lindy no problem wearing it frequently. I find that the lv monogram is common so I don't mind carrying it to places that are mundane. The coated canvas makes it an easy choice to carry to Starbucks where there tend to be water spots on the tables. I think if you love the bag no matter what brand it is go for it. I have my H bags but I will still use my lv dependent on the situation.

OK, so this is a totally first-world dilemma ...

I've never been a huge fan of LV because of the prominent logo and ubiquitous nature of some of their bags (literally, you can't walk through Boston on any given day without seeing a Neverfull ... or eight). I can appreciate why some people love them but have never felt the appeal. Part of it is, when LV logo-mania was at its height several years ago, I saw too many women carrying LV bags with a sort of superior attitude (not that most LV lovers are like this, but it's what I saw in the location I lived in at the time and it was a huge turn-off).

However, this is the second autumn in a row that I have felt myself strangely drawn to buying a Speedy B. Fall/winter is coming, and I'm feeling a definite itch for a higher-end bag that zips shut and is weather proof. I'm pretty sure the style will work for me as I have a couple of Longchamp Le Pliage Cuir bags that are essentially the same thing -- a zipped duffle with a cross-body strap. Longchamp is great but it isn't giving me the luxe feeling I'm craving. Basically, I want an easy-to-use, all-weather bag that still feels high-end. In that way, the Speedy B feels like the bag that should fill that void. As much as I love and use my H bags, I know that when it's sleeting in January, I'm going to be looking for a different option,

BUT .... -- and so many of you can probably relate to this -- another part of my brain is screaming, "But it's not H! And for that price, I could put that money toward another H bag -- or buy a new CSGM!"

So, I'm looking for some discussion to help focus my ping-pong-ing brain! :panic: Do you ladies have this bag? (I'm looking specifically at the Speedy B30 in Damier Ebene.) Do you find it goes against the H-fanatic's love of understated, non-logo'd elegance? Or does it simply fill one of those slots in a collection that H doesn't fill (I see my Chanel flaps as fitting in this category).

Would love any and all thoughts. Thanks!

Think you might love carrying a Speedy in Ebene print- it doesn't scream LV and is light weight and easy on your pocket book, relatively speaking!

I generally dislike the LV monogram bags - although I have a little card purse with the monogram due to the very pretty berry leather lining. I actually wouldn't mind a heavier duty pouch for my cosmetics while traveling. it is very "hard" wearing which I really like.

I do have a Neverful in the Damier Ebene print. It is a hard wearing bag and I don't worry about it getting dirty. I got the DE print because it seems at least a little less obvious as a LV bag (I really do not like overt obvious branded bags - I wear my Evelyne's with the H against my body and I think that is the reason why I don't really like the Kelly or the Birkin - too obvious, same with the Chanel flaps).

For other totes, I really prefer my Moynat canvas bags. I am not sure if they will wear as hard as the LV Neverful but they feel a heck a lot better on my shoulder than the LV.

I don't think I will be buying other than SLG from LV because I am just not a huge fan of the Damier prints and I really would dislike a LV monogram bag.

I wear my Evies the same way, with the H against the body. For years I didn't like that bag because of the perforated H .. then I tried one on and was sold on how comfortable and functional it is. So never say never, but like you, I am generally uncomfortable with obvious branding. Kellys and Birkins are so rare here, I (ironically) don't worry as much about the optics of wearing my Kelly. LV prints are much more recognizable here.

So funny, I had exactly the same thought about a speedy. I mostly use longchamp pliage for travel - and I think a speedy in either print looks lovely. I have never owned an LV bag and not too sure about the ethics of the company, but I think I d like a little speedy for plane or rail travel. I sometimes use a plume 32 for train travel, which feels very luxurious and is a perfect size. ( after all the design was based on a travellers blanket bag), but a canvas bag would be easier with all the rain I have to go through...

I can just picture how elegant you look with your plume! As for LV, there is something about the Speedy and travel ... they do just seem to go together, don't they?

What about a messenger from the LV men's collection. The men's collection comes in damier graphite and mono eclipse. Both to me are more subdued in grey. I really like them a lot!

I wish they made a Speedy 30 in the graphite ...it might be too masculine, but I'd definitely consider it! I do tend to wear more blacks and greys than browns, TBH ... I wish LV had more variety of canvas patterns to choose from!

I keep meaning to read that book but part of me is afraid to! I love H but like some variety in my bags as well, and not sure if I want to hear all the bad stuff!

Glad to hear your Speedy is still special after all these years!

Not a fan of the mono and flashiness of LV logos. I think the Damier is less in-your-face though. I saw a woman carrying a Damier Azur bag (not sure what style) and it looked great on her! Almost tempted [emoji1] especially when now that NG moved to LV. Have been keeping an eye on the new designs coming out and liking quite a lot of them.

I actually quite like the Azur print. Just can't convince myself it will work during a dark, messy Boston winter. :annoyed:

LV will always hold a special place in my heart (and closet) even after being bitten by the H bug My mono NF is my daily workhorse bag (I can't carry Bs to work).. It's been through everything - rain, beach, and my 2 year old using the strap as a teething toy - and it still looks great! Plus it looks good w any outfit I'm wearing to work which is a plus

Still love my LV.... Ever since i got hooked to Hermes, still carry LV a fair bit - the pochette, noe.... And more recently the petite malle whereas the chanel bags dont get used anymore. Am one of the few that like the monogram here. Many complain LV is too recognisable/common but that does not bother me at all. Goes with everything and is sooooo hardy! I say go for the speedy!

Good to know you still love your LV even after going over to the orange side! From this forum, it feels like many people get hooked on LV, then move on to Chanel and H and don't love their LV anymore. Which is too bad because LV is just a different aesthetic (and price point, especially if we're talking about canvas). Glad to know the LV love has some staying power!
