Nothing wrong with having a chuck-around bag from another brand. It's true many go to LV because it's the first place they think of when defining what a 'designer' bag is. The mono print is so internationally and immediately recognised and the NF and Ss are sold at a competitive price points they have become the 'starter bags' for many (I hate that phrase but it's accurate here) but there is nothing wrong with carrying LV, it's part of a range of heritage luggage and the coated canvas was made for bad weather.

Some of the ladies that carry that certain 'smugness' along with their LV do so because it may be their only 'proper' bag, their outward expression is more a projection of what someone carrying a designer bag should look like and how to behave like, a form of self-consciousness and over compensating for shyness. I would feel sorry for them if they weren't using their HG as a weapon. It's not exclusive to LV or any brand followers though, the worst case I saw was a young woman carrying a Bleu Brighton croc Birkin and ordering her slave around Harrods in London. As for the sheer number of NFs and Ss around, more than half I see are fakes. .

A girl friend and I saw this behaviour in Moynat recently and she wasn't even carrying a croc Birkin, just a normal leather Birkin! :p we had to laugh at it!

My first designer bag was a monogram Speedy, 40 years ago, which I still have! I still like the original LV bags, like the Speedy, Alma, Noe, ecc....As many have said here I use LV as a workhorse throw around bag. In my case it's a Sofia Coppola monogram which has been through just about everything and is still fine. I also have a total Vacchetta Alma, bought around 20 years ago and another leather SC bag. I would like to buy a Noé PM one day, hopefully a total Vacchetta one, but they don't turn up often. I've never been a fan of Epi leather.

I see a lot of neverfulls in my city. It's a common bag among moms and teens, even. My teenaged daughter has one. I still have a speedy that I purchased back in the '80's although I no longer carry it. Suppose I'm fairly neutral towards LV over all but it sort of reminds be of the 80's since that's when it was so wildly popular ( or at least when I noticed).....

That care-free quality and durability is one of the main reasons I'm thinking of getting one. Also love the travel history behind the brand.

Love the durability of LV monogram and Epi. Love the history of the brand. Love the iconic bags the most. Not familiar with quality issues. They also did a great job for me at the spa. I think many people carry (carried, in my case) the monogram because it is attractive, durable and classic, not to advertise their wealth. No different from gals that carry B's and K's from H.

Wise words!!
you are right. Probably I tend to think that this has something to do with LV as they are literally everywhere where I live. Nevertheless I really like the neverfull and am on the edge to buy one. My husband hates logoprinted bags. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Well, my money, my logobag;)

OMG - I know exactly how you feel. I, too have looked and admired bags from other designers but am hesitant to pull the trigger. Just recently, I looked at a Diorissimo and a Chanel was so close to purchasing and at the last second I couldn't do it. In my head I kept saying, for x price, I can get an H item or save for my future H item! I haven't bought a non H bag in years!

That being said, I do have a LV that my husband purchased for our 10th anniversary in Paris. I sold my Neverfull but could never bring myself to sell this one. It's honestly one go my favorite "throw around" bags - I use it when I travel, as a work tote and on rainy days. It's one of my most used bags and I love that I don't have to worry about it, the way I worry about my H bags.

I would look into buying a preloved LV - the prices are decent, it can scratch your itch and you can use it when it rains or in an environment where you might not feel comfortable carrying an H bag (amusement park comes to mind for me).

Best of luck!!!!

This is exactly what I mean -- I see a non-H bag that I like, that is beautiful and will work for me and maybe even fill a void in my bag wardrobe that H doesn't make, and then I can't pull the trigger! And then I wonder, how did I become such an H-snob? :confused1: I mean, I know H is the top of the line, but that doesn't mean everything else is garbage, KWIM? I know why I love H, but on this one I may need to get out of my own way!

My DH hates logo bags too, which is too bad, because I really love the look of mono canvas where the vachetta is really well-used and patina'd. If he's just "meh" on a bag I love, I'll still buy it, but I have trouble spending that much money on something he really hates. To be fair, thoug, he wouldn't buy something I really hated either.

I'm also thinking about a LV but feel a little bit repelled by the attitude of LV carrying women. Don't know if that is something that happens only here, but boy....

I know it happens with other brands .... I think I'm just sensitive to the women carrying LV with that air of superiority because I was pretty new to handbags when LV was taking off and I was seeing that attitude everywhere. Now, it's more like LV is so common, it's not a big deal, but as so often happens with first impressions, that one stayed with me...

I hate the term "starter bag" too ... sometimes it is appropriate but for a lot of people, this is their HG .... also, what does it say about me that I have two Kellys but am now considering a "starter Speedy?" :confused1: It's a pretty crazy world we live in when the "starter" H bag is an Evelyne that costs $3.5K! Just sayin'....

Your vachetta Alma must be gorgeous!

I do not know how , but I escaped LV obsession and even have never stepped into the LV store (I know I am a dinasaur). Maybe because I dont like logo all over most of bags or the leather type they use. Never full seems to be practical though, maybe I should consider it after all...

Yes, as you don't want to have to " really that bag? Can#t you take another one with you"-look everytime you use it, isn't it? At least that's it for me. I am still considering a neverfull as it is said that the NF is light and waterresistant and holds a lot of things... Unfortunately I don't like the alternative that as much, the one with less logos on it.
