What do H fans think of LV?

I like LV. I personally am not a fan of the Damier prints but I do like the original monogram and their leather lines. The quality issues definitely drew me away from the brand, there are just way too many imo. But their designs are fun and quirky, especially with their new creative director, Nicolas Ghesquiere.

Agree - like the monogram, but the Damier Ebene (to me) looks cheap + ugly.

If I were in the market for a speedy, I would get it in the mono or emp leather.

I definitely think you (and everyone) is on to something. There is a reason why we see LV neverfull/speedys a lot in public. More usage = people feel more comfortable to use them = most people only feel comfortable when they know they are not 'ruining' their items (on a designer level). Whenever I see anyone in public carrying these bags most of the time they all look in great shape. I've rarely seen someone with a beat up LV bag, which tells me that the quality and durability is there. I myself have not purchased any but have been tempted many times because of the usability. Just my two cents!

Since H doesn't have a Boston-style bag, IMHO, the Speedy fills a hole in the H offerings (the Lindy probably has the closest shape to the Speedy, but given the dual zippers and the tabs/turnlock, getting in and out of the bag would seem tedious). I have the 30 in monogram, and it's my favorite bag for Boston winters. The lightweight and snow-resistant canvas makes the bag comfortable to use, I like being able to line up my items and have them stay put, and there's enough room to stick a small umbrella on top of everything else for those miserable days of "wintry mix".

I went through a period where seeing lots of LV around town annoyed me, but the bag fit my needs so well that I eventually stopped caring. Plus, if monogram is common, no one really notices it and it becomes under the radar in its own way. If you want something more subdued, the Speedy comes in empreinte leather and the Sofia Coppola comes in veau cachemire. I've never owned a bag in either leather and suspect they are not as carefree as coated canvas, and based on listings for preloved bags, these leather versions tend to sag over time. If you do get a Speedy, I'd recommend looking into a Samorga organizer to help keep the bag's shape. Good luck with your decision!

I have some LV bags, shoes and rtw. The bags I bought before I ventured into Hermès. I have never had a Speedy or Neverfull, so in that aspect I'm a bit different. In my country LV bags are overexposed, rtw and shoes are rare. Hermès is very rare, even non Bs and Ks.

At times I use the LV's I still have. I like my python Artsy and recently bought 2 pairs of shoes and a silk polo sweater from LV to go with it. As a brand LV is not appealing to me anymore, prefer the quality of Hermès (leathers, handmade products etc.) but I still like the LV rtw pieces that I combine with specific bags and shoes, outfits I've collected and put together and they work for me.

If you like the Speedy, go for it. The damier ebene has dark handles, which is good, you don't get dirty handles, colourtransfer from leather gloves etc. I like the all leather Sofia Coppola more and the option to customize the Speedy.

I have to chime in as I have a completely different experience with LV. I used to really like the brand and in fact my very first "luxury" bag was from LV. It was a pop-in-court that my hubby got for me while I was in law school. I though it was so cute since I was going to pop in court with my pop-in-court :p
Anyway, since it was my first nice bag I was very careful with it, but within months, the leather in each of the corners had torn apart. I was super distressed and took it to an LVs store. In case you are not familiar with the pop-in-court, it was a monogram bag with cowhide leather essentially piping the bag. LV took it and replaced the entire cowhide leather portion at no charge. I was very happy.

Fast forward less than a year after that and the same thing happened again. I went to the store with the same problem, but the response was very different. First, they said that since more than a year had passed, the bag was not covered and they gave me the cost of the repairs. They were almost as much as buying a brand new bag! Second, when I asked the SA if I could just buy a new pop-in-court, she said that I couldn't because they were discontinued since too many customers were having the same issue I was having with the leather ripping in the corners!!! So you mean to tell me the bag is poorly designed and I am the one that has to pair for repairing it? Unreal.

Ever since then I no longer buy from LV and the only bag I have left from LV is a neverfull that I use when traveling or when I have to carry lots. Even my neverfull, however, shows signs of poor quality. I still see pics of some of their bags and think they are so cute....I was even looking at the palms spring backback, which I think is adorable! But I just won't do it. I can't bring myself to spend money on a company that admitted a design flaw and still wanted me to be responsible for repairs stemming from that flaw. Sorry to all LV lovers out there!

I'm a New England winter girl as well and just love cross body bags for keeping things easy up here in the cold. Also a huge H lover and not that keen on visible logos however!!! I have the navy (it's so dark it's almost impossible to see the embossed logo) speedy 30 Empreinte and I treat it terribly and nothing-I mean nothing makes it look anything other than brand new! It's my everyday work bag as carrying a B or K would raise too many questions in my office and no one even notices this bag. It's my only LV, I don't want any more but I have to say it's really been a great buy and no regrets here!

My sister calls it "snirt" (snow + dirt). The winter we had in Boston 2 years ago started me on this path. I remember snow falling into my Evie. A Kelly was out of the question. Even my usual workhorse GP was too open to the elements, and I lived in fear of slipping, dropping my bag and the contents going everywhere in the snow and salt. That's when I really started thinking about the worry-free, zip-shut option. I already hate New England winter enough, without blaming it for damaging an H bag!

Haha! New expression. Snirt. Love it and passed it on. Please thank your sister.

Epi should stand up to New England Snirt just fine.

I love the Sofia Coppola bag as well, but the strap does not work cross-body, and the way it's attached to the bag, it's not like you can just pop it off and put another strap on. It's my favorite LV bag aesthetically, but for the money, I need a strap that works! I've looked at it many times and just can't talk myself into buying it.

Love your H bracelets in the second photo, btw!

Funny you should mention the Empreinte Speedy. I had some extra time this afternoon so decided to go check the bags out in person. Actually planned to buy the 30 in DE and test it out at home over the weekend. But after trying on both the 25 and the 30, I just couldn't get excited about it. The 25 was tiny and the 30 felt too massive. So I walked from one boutique to the other (there are 2 here, one big stand-alone store and a smaller boutique in Saks), where they had the Empreinte version in both sizes in black. Well. I have to say I like this bag MUCH better. So funny because I walked away saying I'd think about it, thinking the Empreinte doesn't solve my all-weather issue ... only to come home and read your post!

So after all the deliberation about canvas, I may very well get the Empreinte version. I really like the redesign with the outside pocket. Just have to decide whether to go for the 25, which looks best on me, or the 30, which may be too big but has all that extra space! Thanks for posting about yours -- it was the perfect bit of information at the perfect time. :flowers:

So pleased to be helpful! I surprised myself with what a great every day bag this has been. Good luck with your decision & hopefully we won't have such a bad winter this year!

I have all of the designer bags but I use LV canvas for everyday and travel. I especially like LV SLGs for everyday- they are well-made and durable. They last and last.

Of course, we here all adore Hermes but there is room in a bag collection for different designers. I see nothing wrong with adding LV.

I agree with both of the above, but I am now seriously re-considering any future LV purchases after today. Last week I purchased several items from the LV illustre holiday collection and put them in my closet without seriously examining them.

Well, today my rose ballerine ZCP and epi key pouch arrived and I got a chance to REALLY examine the pieces. The epi key pouch looks really durable, but the hardware is flimsy in comparison to hardware on older items, and with the new packaging, I could see that the LV dust bags are no longer made from the thick, durable canvas material, the boxes still seem quite sturdy, but the receipt holder is now less sturdy and more flimsy.

This could all just be a change in packaging, but to me, it cheapens the LV presentation & it makes me question whether or not they are going to start cutting even more corners in production. I'm going to move on to Hermés, because I have the feeling that if I stick with LV, I'm just going to keep paying more for less. I honestly want to return all my purchases made in the last week or so!! UGH.

In sum, I was a huge LV fan, but I am now drifting away from it. I hope H doesn't disappoint ... off I go to the website.

OMG - I know exactly how you feel. I, too have looked and admired bags from other designers but am hesitant to pull the trigger. Just recently, I looked at a Diorissimo and a Chanel was so close to purchasing and at the last second I couldn't do it. In my head I kept saying, for x price, I can get an H item or save for my future H item! I haven't bought a non H bag in years!

That being said, I do have a LV that my husband purchased for our 10th anniversary in Paris. I sold my Neverfull but could never bring myself to sell this one. It's honestly one go my favorite "throw around" bags - I use it when I travel, as a work tote and on rainy days. It's one of my most used bags and I love that I don't have to worry about it, the way I worry about my H bags.

I would look into buying a preloved LV - the prices are decent, it can scratch your itch and you can use it when it rains or in an environment where you might not feel comfortable carrying an H bag (amusement park comes to mind for me).

Best of luck!!!!
