What do H fans think of LV?

I began my bag obsession late in life, once my children left home. My very first purchase was a LV Keepall 45. Still have it, it looks gorgeous, use it regularly. It is very treasured. My first bags were Chanel, several misc designers, then a few Hermes. All but the Chanel and Hermes have been sold or given away (except for 1 BV and 1 Judith Leiber). I actually thought I was done buying bags. Last year I went into LV to buy my daughter an Artsy that she wanted and lo and behold there was a Sac Plat which was the only LV bag I had ever wanted. Purchased the Sac Plat in DE for myself and then heard about mono eclipse being released in 2016. I was very intrigued by the mono eclipse and ended up buying a Pochette Voyage from the men's line as a day clutch. I now want one more bag and my collection will be complete. I want a very casual, errand running, throw around bag that I don't have to worry about and am thinking about the pochette NM in mono with a DE adjustable cross body strap. So I started with Chanel, moved to H, and am just now purchasing LV. Go for the speedy, girl. It will be functional for your current needs.

I went from LV to Chanel to H, typical from the comments in this thread. I'm finding Chanel seems overexposed the past several years like I perceived LV was.
My observations about those carrying Louis Vuitton these days seems to be a relaxed one, in my neighborhood.
I do not carry the Neverful. The Hermes Garden Party serves the same purpose for me. My LV Noe is a fun bag that holds a lot & feels pleasant when I wear it. I do not have any complaints about the quality. It held up well. Though I should get it refurbished, I notice that many wear their LV's with a worn in look I like. It adds character & affection from the owner.
These days I mostly wear my Hermes bags so I feel wearing an LV is a step back in a way. It's not really. Like others who have commented, I do not watch every situation to avoid even a small mishap. So it is a comfortable bag to me.
The LV's I've bought recently are the limited edition collections. Mainly slg's.
I think NG brings energy & liveliness to LV
Hermes had been my favorite for the last few years. It is an education learning about the leathers & styles.
I still think there is a place for Louis Vuitton among Handbag lovers. It's a very versatile line price wise & selection.

Over the years I have had many LV bags then moved up to Chanel and then up to Hermes with some BV in between. I ended up selling my LV bags years ago but about 4 months ago bought the Pochette Metis and just recently a 30cm Speedy B in DE. I am loving these two bags. They definitely have their place in my collection of handbags.

Just like many others, I started my bag collection with LV, then Chanel and currently Hermes. As I don't use my LV's anymore, many times I've contemplated on selling them. But everytime I thought I was ready to part with them, I just could not. I am now making a conscious effort to try and wear them but I find the damier ebene easiest to carry.

I personally love LV bags. I particularly enjoy the monogram canvas, although it "yells" LV. The brand in itself has never been as available and as a present as it is now. It is true that LV bags used to be ubiquitous, and you could see them everywhere. But it seems that this popularity wave is over now, as many people switched to Michael Kors or other brands. For me, LV remains a luxury brand, and I agree that it is a Premier designer no matter what. As my personal choice for bags would be H and Chanel, I cannot, however, say that LV comes after. I have been owning a few slgs and a speedy so far. My most preferred slgs are those I got from LV because the coated canvas is indestructible. And I enjoy pulling out my multicles or agenda out of any bag. I will continue buying them in the future, even though my heart lies within H and Chanel.
I also had a specific period of time when I did not carry my Speedy because every other girl/ woman had one. But now I came to fall in love with it again. Although I love H and Chanel, I also must admit that they are not very appropriate in some environments (in front of specific family members, specific work colleagues, you name it). And for these occasions, I carry my Michael Kors Jetset tote or Longchamp Le pliage in canvas. I think that H has made its efforts to make bags discreet, but I also came to realize that they are very recognizable nevertheless.
That being said, if you like the Speedy B, then get it. As a true H lover, I really love speedies, and I love seeing them. The speedy is really iconic, and overall a great and sturdy bag. hth

Thanks for your perspective -- your words really resonated with me. Yes, H is discrete, but so iconic you never know who will recognize what -- like the time I was holiday shopping for my sister in the Coach store and the male SA recognized my Garden Party, of all bags, as being Hermes. So, how much am I fooling myself, thinking I'm being understated while carrying H? Like you, I love H and Chanel, and have to say that although I love seeing all kinds of Chanel bags on others, the Reissues are pretty much "it" for me. Perhaps LV will be the same -- that really, there is one bag style from them that I really love, the Speedy.

Thanks, Pickle! Just curious, how long did you want that Sac Plat before you finally got it? I've had the Speedy in the back of my brain for longer than I'd care to admit, at least since 2011 when they released the version with the strap.

I have that same feeling, wondering if going to LV will be a "step back," as you put it. But there are bag styles H just doesn't make, and I don't think brand loyalty should prevent us from wearing what we want, or what works for certain situations. I'm glad you find your LV bags comfortable, as that's one quality I'm really looking for. FWIW, I like that worn-in look too.

My first designer bag was a Speedy. And that was a long time ago. It has aged beautifully and should something happen to it, I would buy another one!
Loving Hermès doesn't mean the other brands are not as desirable.
An SA working in a Hermès boutique abroad asked me If I could get her..... an LV bag from France where of course it's cheaper...

Probably about 8 years. I was busy buying other bags and then the sac plat was out of production. Luckily they brought it back and with a strap. So it ended being a win/win for me. Originally they didn't come with a strap. And yes, maybe the speedy will be the only LV bag you'll ever want. The SP was for me (until mono eclipse came out and I had to have something in that).

The comment about your shopping experience in the Coach store is interesting. Last night I was reading about Bonnie Cashin in Wikipedia for curiosity and saw she designed for Hermes during her career.
I don't even know why I wanted to know more about her other than her relevance to Coach

That's funny ... I always liked the look of the Speedy but never got one because it's hand-held only ... then they added the strap and everything changed! Being able to carry a bag on my shoulder or cross-body is one of my few deal-killers with bags (and THE reason I don't have a Birkin).

I fell out of love with LV a while back and as many others have posted sold all my LV along with my Chanels to go exclusive with Hermes. I haven't found the urge to return to Chanel for bags, but I have drifted back to LV. I have also sold a few Hermes bags that didn't work for me. I have several Haute Maroquinerie bags along with an epi neverful and a cappuccino BB evening bag.

I'm new to h, having migrated over from LV and Chanel, and as much as I love and would want a birkin, the fact that it's hand/arm carry, really makes me pause too and to be honest, I don't know if I'd really be comfortable carrying something so luxurious. I've been looking for something similar, but with a strap, and now that LV has made the city steamer in grained leather I find myself thinking about it. Even though it fits the bill of what I want (right now), I hesitate because I've been bitten by the H bug.
