@whateve thank you for the pictures, its super helpful and what a gorgeous color! Im going to save them to my growing library (unorganized mess) of pics.

@aerinha I hadn't come across pockets like that yet. The metal tag is slightly bent, but the leather there is perfect and unexpectedly thick, it looked out of place.

@ProfessorLV Your right! After a look in better lighting, the stitching along the back panel that holds the pocket on, looks like the same color as the majority of the bag, just uneven. The other repairs are messy and different threads.
So many bags look, to me, to be so perfectly crafted down to the last detail, I sort of forget about them actually being made by hand.

@seekingvintage I would love to see pictures of your bag!

Thank you all!
I've got a Courier from about the same time frame as yours. It looks like the grommet may have been replaced on mine because it looks silver-ish? I'm not sure though.

I also have an early mocha #8920 Large Courier Pouch identified with a COACH metal tag and it has the same pocket and tab features as yours. It was not unusual for some of the styles introduced in 1971-72 timeframe to undergo design modifications from year to year. Just think, there were three different design evolutions of #9085 Duffle Sac from its initial release in 1971 to the configuration produced in 1977 (or so) that we've all come to know, not to mention the changes to the iconic #9375 Dinky (where the removable dual strand spaghetti strap found in the introductory 1973 design was replaced by the fixed single strand strap several years later).

My pocket looks completely different from yours!View attachment 4489596

Did you see the red one in the quoted post? I don't recall ever seeing a pocket and that edging along the top in a courier pouch. Have you?

I once had a red pre-creed (cartouche imprint) Courier Pouch that had an interior pocket just like the one shown in the quoted post. That same pocket design could also be found in the second version of the Duffle Sac (the first design did not include interior pocket) that was sold during the pre-creed (imprint) and creed with no number periods (so call it 1972-77, or thereabout). Note that there were several other significant changes made between the original release and second renditions of the Duffle Sac.

Thank you for asking about this Whateve, and thank you for the info, RL Bernstein!! I've been a little worried thinking maybe this bag had been modified. Not that it would matter, it's still my beloved Holy Grail, but it's nice to know it's genuine and original.
