Mr. Ex - one more quick question - how do SAs really feel about purchases made on the secondhand market? If I were to buy a K or a B from say Fashionphile, is there an associated stigma? Could I be open with an SA about the purchase? Would it impact my chances of being offered something in-store? Thanks so much for your advice!

I'm not answering for Mr Ex but rather sharing my thoughts.
SA's know & understand that many clients make purchases outside of the store. in their travels
abroad & to other US stores as well as the secondary market.
SA's are trained professionals to SELL.. they are not so much interested in secondary market
purchases, etc.. There is no need to have a dialogue about ones purchases, IMO
I have several vintage bags specifically Kelly's that my SA has admired but never a conversation
about them just a smile on their face as they know they are not commonplace.
Just enjoy the brand, treat your SA respectfully & would not flaunt any Hermes purchase in
front of them for any reason & you just never know what may come your way...

thanks so much for your take, LOML - I'm quite friendly with my SAs and like to have a good chat. My most recent one, who's now left the boutique, knows which bags I have and don't have and the reason for my question.

Hi Mr. Ex,
Thank you for answering our posts. It's been enlightening. My questions are around the H museum tour. I had been invited to see the H museum in 2019 and my husband and I truly enjoyed it very much. What a memorable visit. We were told we were one of the lasts for they were stopping museum visits and making it available to just the artisans. Is this temporary? Have they restarted again? Also if one were already invited, would we be able to be invited again? I realize so many want to visit the museum so I'm thinking it's unlikely. I wasn't sure why I was offered this wonderful experience so wonder how do clients get selected?

Thank you!

So for example, if there is an item that you know your home store won't ever receive (or stores aren't willing to transfer/trade), just grab it when you see it on vacation? Got it. ;)

What about wishlist items, especially popular bags? Would that be completely out of line, against H-etiquette, if clients managed to purchase that item on vacation....while waiting for the offer at home?

This is so helpful for the introverts....thank you!
Yes, exactly. Especially if it’s items that you are almost certain your home store won’t get.
Regarding wishlist items, as mentioned, the current US system will begin tracking those purchases made over seas but there’s no ETA on that. It’s i it accurate for wishlist items made in Paris so please use your discretion when purchasing such items.
Happy to help!

Speaking of exotics: what would be the possibility of a birkin or kelly in crocodile or alligator for somebody who's a client that has only spent around 1:1 of a regular leather birkin or kelly? I've read mixed sources where people say exotics are easier or harder to get than "regular" leathers.
Your spend to get approved for exotics usually has to be very high. But depending on the market of your hone store this could be easier in some areas. For Example, tourist driven markets.

It makes sense that long-term clients will be offered a bag first. This may also be different from country to country but can I just ask generally, let's say you like to shop around in different Hermes stores in one city, (in my case London, there are like five stores here and they are kind of close to each other and I tend to just pop in whichever is closer when I am out and about), when a SA is considering who to offer a bag, will they only consider the purchase history in their particular store?

Also, as part of that question, if you kind of know most SAs in one store, how should you choose who to make your wishlist with? Here in the UK we have a 'wishlist' system where you have anywhere between 8-9 months to register your wish for a B,K, or C and if you get it, you get it, if you don't the wish expires and you have to do one again. My wishlist has expired couple of weeks ago and I still cannot decide which store and who to do my wishlist with.
In your case they may. Reason being is because 1. They have a relationship with you already. People who develop these relationships and get along very well tend to work better. 2. They might offer it to those who are valuable in the SA’s client book by continuously shopping with them. 3. The particular store is getting most of your business.
Your wishlist should be attached with the SA at that particular store so if you make multiples then they may be able to see that at multiple locations.

I've been a long term client of Hermes - have bought shoes, fashion jewelry, perfume, baby-items, and many, many scarves. I honestly never really gave getting a B or K much thought, until the last year or so. I've had many an SA over the course of my 15 years of buying, and finally this year I was thinking I'd like a bag. I broached the idea with current my SA, who was lovely, and she said she could certainly to that for me considering my continued love for the brand. This was in early March, and then suddenly, in mid-May I received a note saying that she was leaving the store and asked who I'd like to be assigned to. Because she is lovely, I popped into the store to to give her a bottle of wine in celebration of her next position. Anyway, this is a long-winded way to ask, once I'm assigned to another SA (I know most of them in the store) will I go to the bottom of their list? Thanks so much for your help?
The SA should be completely transparent with clients and therefore should consider every single penny you’ve spent regardless of who it was with. If you have a 100k spend with no previous b/k purchases and you became someone else’s client they should definitely be able to offer you something ASAP!

This doesn’t affect the SA in any way other than them knowing that you already have an outside purchase. They will still be able to offer you bags as long as you’re their client.
But to answer your question, they may say a thing or two to their colleagues in the break room.

"Has anyone ever received a SO as their first quota bag?" (and the implied question... "is it possible for me?")

I just really started getting into the idea of getting a quota bag- I'm new to the brand and really only initially wanted one thing- but I got an AMAZING SA I click with and started to fall down the rabbithole. My "problem" is that I don't plan to have more than one, and I love both the ideas of a neutral bag and a bright bag. But I'm a newb and would never ask that of my SA because I don't want her to think I'm just outlandish for even asking.
Best thing to do is talk to your SA. Once you develop a relationship with them and you get along with him very well just ask them straight up. This will avoid beating around the bush and you’ll get a direct answer. It is possible though since it’s up to the SA’s discretion.

For such exclusive events as those you must be a very good client! If you’ve been invited I wouldn’t worry about not getting invited again. It sounds like you’re doing amazing so keep doing what you’re doing and always make sure to express your interest to your SA. More than often they are asked to nominate clients for such events.

I'm really enjoying this thread.. thanks for taking the time to answer all the questions!

One more from me..
Is there really a preference for a client to buy fine jewelry to get higher on the list? I'm only asking because it's somewhat of an unspoken rule where I live. It's almost a prerequisite actually which is very odd!

Thanks so much Mr. Ex! You're a real class act for helping us feel more comfortable with it all. ^_^

Loving this thread
I would like to know what the sales targets are and if they are easy to meet? My SA from a different luxury house has a 6 digit target each month and is very proactive in sending me pictures and lookbooks for their items. My hermes SA however is not pushy at all and it seems she is so relaxed - almost like she is not in a sales role?

i am in a competitive area so does it mean SA targets are very each to reach hence the relaxed attitude?
