Congraulations! I think the Tiffany ring is amazing (I love mine!) I find the knife prong setting very comfortable. It also makes the ring look more delicate and really show cases the diamond - mine is slightly over a carat. The HW ring is also beautiful - and while I like the prongs better, I don't know I definitely like the setting better on the Tiffany ring, and I wouldn't want interested prongs to take away from my diamond. I have to tell you that I haven't seen a ring style yet that matches mine for its clean simplicity and delicate look - but of course I'm biased!

Your finance is going to be thrilled!! Keep us posted.

I believe if youre going to buy diamonds for someone special then you should think of going for clarify, colour, carat, and cut. I think youre on the right track. Flawless stones or stones with no cracks and marks are believed to be lucky.

Good luck and let us know what you decide on

Hey! That's what I was thinking today when making a decision about c/c/c/c and size. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so!!!

Hello everyone. I am looking to purchase my g/f an engagement ring in the near future. I am seriously considering buying a 1.65 E/VS2 Round Brilliant from Tiffany's for $34,000. I also looked at the following: 1.38=$22,000, 1.77=$40,000. My g/f wears a size 5.

It seems like you get what you pay for. I have looked at many other places (BlueNile) etc and it seems that most places accept flaws in their diamonds that Tiffany's does not. The rings I looked at Tiffany's sparkled like there was no tomorrow, even when i took them out of the lights.

Ladies, am I crazy for spending this kind of money for a 1.65 carat at Tiffany's or is the quality/warranty etc really worth it?

Your honest opinions would be greatly appreciated.
OMG of course you know she's worth it!! Go for it!!!! and CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!:yahoo:

Michael, you should post this in the jewelry section of the board. Also, there are many threads on engagement rings, as well as threads on Tiffany to help you.

There are many opinions about rings from Tiffany. You should educate yourself about diamonds in general before buying. There are many other jewelers who carry the same quality as Tiffany for much less.
Same QUALITY as Tiffany's????

I'm confused. I'm only asking this because I am looking for a 1.5 - 2 ct diamond, and I have been shopping around. What do you mean that most places accept flaws that Tiffany does not? A VS1 clarity, as you are looking for, has flaws. There are diamonds on BlueNile that are IF in clarity, D-F in color, and pretty much the same specifications you have listed that are priced less than a Tiffany diamond. I'm curious because I'm looking too, and I'm trying to do my homework.
when a diamond is graded barely a G, Tiffany's will certify it an H, whereas others will round it up to the G certification. This is what they mean by Tiffany's has higher certification satndards.

So Michael, what happened? Just joined this Forum and I LOVE it! Did you propose? Which ring did you actually purchase? The 1.65 E/VS1 Tiffany ring?

I am still debating between the 1.65 E/VS1 for $34K or the 1.77 E/VS1 for $39,100.

Also wondering if the difference between E/VS1 and F/VS2 is really that much of a difference (or any of those combinations).

I will decide the 2nd week of April when I view 5 or 6 stones................

Same QUALITY as Tiffany's????

Yes. As long as you get a ring that follows the 4 Cs -- cut, color, clarity, and carat -- you can find diamonds that have the same quality (again, my opinion, other opinions will differ  ).

Hubby and I did exhaustive research on the topic before we bought my ring. The same style ring I have would have cost three times more at Tiffany. But again ... no offense meant to those with Tiffany rings.

she is very lucky to have a man that would take all of these factors into consideration. Tiffanys was above our budget at the time of engagment, but what mattered to me was that my husband took the time to learn..and choose the best diamond that he could. i still love it 15 years later, and the tiny inclusion helps me to identify it...i wouldn't change it for the world.

i wish you the world of happiness, go with your heart..but use the wisdom that you have to choose the most beautiful stone, that fits your and her lifestyle. she will be blown away with both the ring, and the thought that you put into choosing it for her.

best wishes to you!

Thank you for your warm wishes:heart: I appreciate them. I have narrowed the final four choices to the following:

1.77ct E/VS1 $39100.
1.96ct F/VS1 $38600.
1.76ct E/VS2 $35900.
1.65ct E/VS1 $34000.

The 1.77 and 1.65 are stunning to say the least (I saw them with 4 other stones before). My SA is going to compare the other two then I will decide.

I realize I could get a less expensive diamond somewhere else but I value the reputation, service, warranty etc. of Tiffany's. I don't mind paying more for quality. I drove other makes and models of cars before I purchased my Mercedes AMG and the whole experience has been the greatest. You get what you pay for most of the time. There is always something better but you have to find your comfort zone. There isn't a written law that says who the best is. Harry Winston, Graff, Cartier, Tiffany's are all exceptional and they all appeal to different people. Fot this one particular item I chose Tiffany's, in the future for other purchases I would consider almost anyone, just like I did with the engagement ring. It has been fun. I met a lot of really nice people and learned a lot about diamonds.

Talk to you later,

Michael:dothewave:

Michael. . . soem may not agree w/ me, but if you can afford it, go for the bigger one.
We're looking to upgrade my ring at the 10 yr mark and it could save you the same thing later down the road.
That's JMO since it's not a HUGE amount of # difference.
