hahaha...good for you to discover Harry Winston...she is one lucky gal! HW has wonderful diamonds!!! THEY sparkel like mad, and the best customer service too!

You are sooo right! I have a 3-stone anniversary ring from HW and it is the most amazing ring I've ever seen. The diamonds are like three flashlights sparkling away!

When my husband and I were looking, we went to Tiffany's and we were shown some I-colored diamonds as well, after we had specifically told the SA we only wanted D,E,F diamonds. When he asked us where else we were looking and we told him HW, he started to bad mouth HW!!!!! I couldn't believe that he was being so unprofessional. HW staff is top notch in their customer service, and will be going there for any more major diamond purchases.

I got a tiffany ring that my SO got me. I think with the price he can get a bigger diamond but I am happy with my ring cos the clarity and the cut is amazing. So I guess it depends on what your girl will like more, clarity and cut or carat :)
I think if you get her the 1.38 carat one she will be happy.

Quick update btw I have been introduced to Harry Winston which I had heard of before but didn't even think of looking into. So now I am. Because I have been doing so much research I will in fact decide between either Tiffany's or Harry Winston Diamonds.

Michael :supacool:

Aw Michael! Harry Winston is SWEET! I went to their boutique in Beverly Hills and they were SOOOO nice! My friend and I had a blast looking at stuff (I thought she should get some ideas on STYLES of rings she might like...and I wanted to see their stuff). When the SA saw MY (Tiffany's) ring, he said that I had excellent taste! He was right! ;). Their sweet attitude and willingness to let me play with jewels made me a BIG fan! I have yet to own a piece of Harry Winston jewelry but, I can't fault you for putting them on your short list!:heart:

Hey Michael!

I agree with A-T-G. I'm also a size 5, and I've tried a 1 carat and it's kinda big. Tiffany's 0.88 is actually a pretty nice size on my finger and the price for the quality that you want is less than $20000. Good luck on your search!

i think as long as you can find a stone that has certification by GIA, thats the way to go. As GIA has a laser cut serial # on the stone, you can check if the jeweller gives the right stone back to you, and you can check the specs on the GIA website

I think Tiffany Stones aren't certified by GIA but by their own system right??

I looked at Tiffany's but was put off by their grading system. You need an independant certifier and GIA is the world's most recognised and trusted.

You can get the same quality stone at 1/2 the price as long as you get the certificate.

Sure, Tiffany sounds good, but if you really want a perfect diamond, i would say buy the loose stone and pick out the setting yourself

Hi Michael! How exciting for you! I have to say that I love Tiffany diamonds! If you can afford it then go for it! She will simply adore it! It is completely about how you feel when you purchase that special ring and how you want her to feel. I'm sure there are other diamonds with similar specs and for less but this is THE ring. You can always look for other pieces of jewelry from other jewelers for future purchases. LOL Harry Winston is definitely comparable to the name and aura that a Tiffany diamond brings. It's great that you are doing research, I'm sure your heart will lead you to the perfect ring! Best of luck to you!

I'm confused. I'm only asking this because I am looking for a 1.5 - 2 ct diamond, and I have been shopping around. What do you mean that most places accept flaws that Tiffany does not? A VS1 clarity, as you are looking for, has flaws. There are diamonds on BlueNile that are IF in clarity, D-F in color, and pretty much the same specifications you have listed that are priced less than a Tiffany diamond. I'm curious because I'm looking too, and I'm trying to do my homework.

What he means is there are certain flaws that can still leave a stone categorized as a VS1 but Tiffany's won't allow those particular flaws in their stones. For instance, I have a VVS2 stone but it does have one very small internal extra facet, probably a mistake which is a craftmanship issue, Tiffany would not accept this. Me, I would NEVER ever see this, I've looked at the stone under a microscope and couldn't tell, and aside from this there is just one other natural inclusion which is clear and not visible to the naked eye. Make me think if the mistake hadn't been made my stone would be a VVS1 but oh well, I still love it. You could still find the same quality non-tiffany stones out there but you have to work hard, Tiffany kind of does the work for you. And if you love their settings there's really no one that can replicate them exactly.....

Not all GIA cert stones are laser inscribed, maybe more recently they do that more.....

I love both Harry Winston and Tiffany diamonds. All my jewerly comes from Tiffany. And I have picked out the engagement ring from HW that I love. If my boyfriend made millions I'd tell him to get the HW.

But in the end, I've seen friends rings that looked even better then T or HW rings. And were 1/2 the price. You are paying for a lot of name with both.

I've told my bf that I don't want him buying from there. I'd rather have larger stone, with the the same stats, then just paying for branding. He knows I am a brand name girl-Chanel, LV, Manolo etc.

But if you think the branding is important, most people don't even know. I have people in my office who have an HW, a T and one that was privately made. The privately made one, actually looks the best. You have to be careful when choosing and do your research. But you'd be suprised whats out there.

You are correct. Diamond merchants sell diamonds of many different qualities. Many may deal in diamonds that do fall short of Tiffany`s criteria, but, they also sell diamonds of the same quality or even better.

After all, diamonds all come from the same place....meaning that T. do not have their own supply. They may have a cut unique to them, but that too is debatable.

The bottem line is that T. do not have a monopoly on beautiful diamonds. jmo

I say get her the Tiffany...she would be so proud to tell everyone it's a Tiffany rather than some ol jewelry store...I have a 1 ct. Cartier brilliant cut with pave band...and with the price my fiance paid...I could have a 3 ct. easily from a "jewelry store"...but I opt'd for the smaller Cartier...because I love telling everyone it' "Cartier"...and that alone make me sooooo happy...now I wanna trade my ring back to Cartier for a 2 ct. ...I'm a size 4...and wanna go up another carat...they will not replace the diamond with a bigger one...but they will buy my 1 ct. back...and I can get the 2 ct. I want...or maybe a 2.5 ct. ...3 ct. is waaay too big for my tiny hand...but I can't express how much I love having such a high end diamond ring...even if my diamond is small...it won't be for long!!!

there's nothing like opening a Cartier box (in your case Tiffany)...and saying "will you marry me"!!!

awwww...I'm so excited for your fiance!!!

Yes..."It's a Tiffany" sounds so much classier and WOW than "It's from jeweler's row and he got a great deal on it..."

Tiffany (and Cartier, Harry Winston, etc) does not need a preface. The name, history, and unmatched brilliance and quality speaks more than words ever can.
