Received my replacement "lace" (I call it a drawstring...) for my monogram multicolor noir noe today and I am kind of disappointed. They charged $100 FYI. It seems they've sent me a replacement lace for a noe bb (matches up with that lace identically). The lace that came with the multicolor noe is skinnier and longer. See attached photos.

Perhaps this is the only one they make now? It just doesn't glide nicely through the eyelets on the multicolor bag like the skinner one does....and I haven't tried to tie it yet but I feel like I'm probably going to have to cinch my bag more to tie it since its shorter...
Sooo after a week of reviewing the photos and measurements I sent in I was told that my piece is vintage and they no longer work with the manufacturers who made that lace...but then proceeded to say that my lace on my original bag was stretched out from use and the one they sent me is going to get skinnier and longer as it ages....I find this kind of hard to believe. @BULL do you have any insight on this?

Edited to add: Actually laying it end to end with my noe bb lace I found that while they are the exact same width, the one they sent me is a tiny bit longer than the noe bb one...
The lace they sent measures approxiamtely 9mm wide and 113.5cm long whereas the one on my multicolor noe is 7mm wide and 117cm long.

They can serve some elaborate BS at the Repair Department. Almost as hardcore as Hermès Marketing :D
I just checked my own Noé. It is 7 mm × 104 cm :D
May I ask if the underside of the new drawstring is rough or the same leather as the top? Because I've seen some wider ones on some of the new Noé versions, they look like the 9 mm you described and both sides are leather grain, neither is flesh.

Yeah…sounded made up to me too, how would it thin as it stretched out? Makes no sense to me. It is leather on both sides also, not rough on the backside like the original…
Do you think I’m entitled to ask to return it at this point? The girl I’m working with over the phone was basically just like sorry you’re upset but the atelier said it’s correct…

So. They are saying the lace you were given will get skinnier....(width) but ALSO longer (length) due to it being leather? Lol. That is so contradicting. Are they paying attention to what they are saying? Lol. I say no. Seems strange they can't just make it the same size as the original. It's only vachetta. Too bad you can't return it and just get one off Etsy as $100 is steep for a part that is literally coming up short. So sorry :(

This is the key element! The 9 mm double sided drawstrings are a new design for new bags, and my theory is that they needed to make it wider, so the glue will keep it together, as with 7 mm the bond might just not be strong enough for long term use. The old design had no such box to check since they were a single piece of raw leather.
But this is just my theory, since we've seen lots of early Pochette Accessoires straps (without the stitching) coming apart, that had similar double-sided design.
Anyway... the Atelier was clearly lazy. And the lady just doesn't want to deal with the issue. I understand that they'd rather sell 10 Capucines instead, but as I always say, this is Louis Vuitton, not H&M, so do the repairs accordingly. It is THEIR own rule, that you are not allowed to ask for any modifications, every item can and must only be restored to the EXACT SAME design as it was originally made. And this Noé originally had a single sided 7 mm string. It is not nitpicking on your side. They were lazy to cut a piece and took a ready made new string? What is next? They'll send back the Noé with a random Empreinte bottom, because that was the only kind of leather at hand? Come on, this is the same level.
In their defence, a brand new string might glide a little less easily, it is not broken in and also the oils help tremendously in that regard. But still, providing a random length and altering the design AND trying to gaslight the client into believing that it is OK is just appalling.

@BULL Thank you so much, you are so knowledgeable and I sincerely appreciate your help!! I called 866-VUITTON back and stated my case and they said I will receive a return shipping label by the end of the night and a refund!
That is great news.
I'd recommend you to try again, maybe a little later, maybe in another store. I'm not in the US, not familiar with the phone service, but this thing is literally just a spare part (like a luggage tag), they can send one without taking in the product. I wouldn't be surprised if they only sent your request to a US factory, where they had these strings, but only the new ones. I guess that in France they could have picked the right one.

I sent my dear friend's original Speedy 25 in after her dog made a snack out of the vachetta tabs. The price they quoted to repair the tabs was around $275. I was shocked. I figured it would be better to change it all out, so I let them replace all the leather - handles, tabs, (all vachetta) was in total just under $500. I did this for her as a gift, as I knew she would never do it herself. She actually thought I bought her a new bag when it was returned to me. It's pricey, but it was worth the look on her face, as she is my closest friend. At the time it was taking them 6+ months to do the replacement. I brought it to the store Feb 2023 and they called me in Sept 2023 to pick it up.
Good to know! Just purchased a vintage 1991 Speedy and may have to check this option out if the handles look...well used :) What a sweet friend you are!
