I'm on the hunt for my birth year kelly (1992) - I do like gold on gold, most vintage Kelly's I see are black on gold. I guess I don't mind sending for repair at the spa but just depends on how much its going to be!
You've set yourself a challenge here I think. If birth year is the defining criteria I suspect you will need to be very patient, and be prepared to spend a bit more money. Alas, 1992 is not really all that old so you're competing against others who, having seen more recent Kelly prices (even before the latest boutique increase), will be perfectly content to have an older bag in good condition/needing minor spa repairs, and will be willing to pay somewhat closer to retail. Size will matter, small bags are still preferable, but I don't think K 32 prices are likely to take a dramatic dive. Best advice? Keep looking or consider alternative criteria.

Hi! I’m interested in vintage Hermes and wondering where I should start looking. Would appreciate any help and suggestions :smile:
Ideally look somewhere in your own country, otherwise you will incur import duties.
I allow for 20% and then anything less is a bonus.
Like 880, I would consider brand_jfa and brandoff from Japan; I have always had good experiences with discontinued styles; condition has been better than described.

Despite this previous advice, look at everything - even if the location is not ideal or the items are out of your price range, it is the best way to get a feel for the market. You have to do your own homework; do listen to other people's opinions, but don't be lazy and take shortcuts: Knowledge is Power - and confidence.

It's around $5400
I'd give it a hard "No". That poor beauty looks really distressed and sending it to the Spa would cost a dime or two.

I had a quick check. This one is not from the year you are interested in, a little bit older, same price, better looking

this one is too young, but around the year you are looking for

I'd call them or email them, they have plenty of stock. (see next post)

Would you know roughly how much it would cost? All the better conditions ones are at least 10k plus that I can see!
here you are, dear. 1992, gold on gold, a little bit slouchy, though.

:)

I second brand_jfa and want to add Collector Square in Paris @rn888
caveat emptor Collector Square
it presents everything with confidence supported by its 'Expert evaluation'
It once advertised a bag in brown barenia, which I suspected was amazonia; when I questioned it, my instinct was correct.
Clearly the description was never checked as claimed.
If one thing can be so wrong, I question the accuracy of any statement.

On or around 2008, I bought my first vintage BBK28 for 2K and subsequently had it H spa-ed ; handle, sangliers, hardware replaced. I think it might have been 800-1200 USD altogether, but I don’t really recall. I also bought a variety of leather evelyn width cross body straps for perhaps 800-1200 each and had a new thin strap made. The costs can be significant and the work was over the course of many months, and I would not discount the time and effort. The additional concern is if the leather is so dry, it rips through the shoulder pads, it’s possible that the entire body may be dry as well. It is significantly easier to wait and find a preloved K in better condition that is structurally sound.

I did a search for my old costs here, see post 24:

Thank you so much - that's so helpful!! :heart:

1) there is a policy on this site of not dealing with authentication issues;
if you have concerns seek a private authentication
2) the general advice is always to return bags to Hermes for any repair or refurbishment;
Hermes will not work on bags that have been previously repaired/refurbished anywhere other than Hermes

Hi everyone, looking to purchase my first, less than perfect Kelly and Im not sure what to avoid. this is box and Im not looking for perfect, I also just dont want the kind of wear that will lead to the bag falling apart thanks! ’m going to ask these questions in a couple places bc I’m not sure where to ask.
Thoughts on these small places or wear?

You can ask on the Lazarus thread by @docride regarding what might be needed to spa this bag and a recommendation as to whether it’s good to purchase. If the white within your circled marker is a tear, IMO only, I would think twice and hesitate. If it’s a loose thread, I wouldn’t have any issue, and would proceed. My only caveat is whether you want to take on cracked leather. I’m not sure that’s a good idea for your first box bag. But, I have a tendency to feel sorry for bags and take on projects lol :)
