Hey guys, I didn’t know where or how to post this but have any of you ever seen or heard of this happening to your Epsom Kelly? The straps rubbed off the leather on the handle  I’ll include photos. I bought it pre-loved like this and authenticity is not a question. Thank you!

I just noticed something like that is happening to my Evelyne. I got it at the store.

It did not rub off the leather. It rubbed off the color layer on the leather…after all, the hook for your strap is metal. You cannot turn leather naturally white (or pink, cobalt blue or any other bright pure color) through staining. You do it with paint or some other kind of coating on top of the leather. Plus Epsom is a compressed leather so there is less space in the leather to absorb any color, which is why it is thinner and more lightweight. It’s not Hermes, it’s the nature of the beast. So if you have a coating and you keep rubbing metal on it, guess what happens? Kellys used to not have hooks for crossbody straps because they are not designed to be worn that way, let alone on a daily basis. So the design was not meant to prevent that rubbing. Hermès did nothing wrong here and there is no quality issue here. It is normal wear and tear and can be touched up but will continue as long as you wear the crossbody strap on a regular basis.

All of these things are why a lot of people do not like Epsom and still others steer toward heritage leathers or more “natural” colors.

Oh that is such a bummer! Luckily I am able to put a twilly on which I was going to do either way to protect the handle from dirt.
I've sent many of my bags to Leather Surgeons in PA for touch ups and refurbish. On the website he'll ask that you send a photo and tell you how much it would cost. He is not expensive and this is who the top Hermes resellers are using for their bags. He is top drawer.

Thank you! I’ve heard about them and that’s who I would use, but for now I’m using a twilly as I don’t want the handles to get dirty. Probably in a few years I’ll touch it up :)

Hi Everyone, I just got this lovely Kelly 28 sellier in graphite box from 1987  (second picture with my gold b35 in gulliver, also vintage from 1997:hbeat:). She was likely improperly stored by one of her previous owners and developed a crease in the front. First few pics were when I just unboxed her. Last pic was after I massaged her to help regain some structure back. My after sales specialist recommended a pillow which I have purchased when she returns from spa.

She’s currently en route to Paris. He is inquiring about making a strap for me and adding the double rings, in addition to cleaning/conditioning and minor glazing repair, etc.

I asked him if the spa can clean and polish the hardware but he suggested replacing completely with new hardware. I don’t mind the scratches/patina (no black/tarnish/chipping other than on the pins), but the lock and key are badly tarnished. He recommended replacing all so they match. I am somewhat torn about replacing the hardware when it’s not in terrible condition. Any thoughts? TIA!

Hi, just wanted to say that your bag is beautiful! Did you ever get the D rings added? I am interested in this as well!

Posting this here because no one in my actual life understands the way I am simultaneously thrilled and terrified to let this new-to-me vintage croc Pullman out of my sight! But it deserves a spa day, so I just left it with H. I know it’s in the best hands, but why is my heart still palpitating?? Lol

That is so beautiful:heart:. I have never seen this purse before. I could never afford an exotic, but I really appreciate seeing them on this forum, so thanks for sharing:smile:

Thanks, @PrayersandPurses! I cannot afford exotics either! Lol! That is why I was so surprised to find this bag at a price point within reach. I held my breath through authentication, and as soon as I got it I took it directly to H, as it has some scratches. SA says it could take up to year to spa, but that's ok. Vintage pieces are so special to me, so I am willing to wait.

I just got my quote back from after sales and they are unfortunately unable to add the rings or make a strap because they don’t have enough ardoise (I mistakenly thought it was graphite lol) box leather in stock :crybaby:
