Good luck! Ask for your top choice first. If you only want a QB, do not settle for a non QB. Bc if they don’t have what you want, but you buy another bag, they might reject subsequent attempts for a walk in. In my experience, it doesn’t matter what you wear; you don’t need to carry an H bag; and you do not need prespend. But, it helps to be very polite  Have fun on the rest of your first ever trip and don’t let Hermes take up all your time and energy

ETA: bring comfy walking shoes (I wear birkenstock sneakers, and if you wear jewelry, I cover with long sleeves just in case.
Thank you so much for your sweet and very appreciated advice!

Good luck! Don’t worry about the bag until you’ve gotten an appt. Then, ask for your top choice first. If you only want a QB, do not settle for a non QB. Bc if they don’t have what you want, but you buy another bag, they might reject subsequent attempts for a walk in. In my experience, the first bags they bring are usually the best ones. It doesn’t matter what you wear; you don’t need to carry an H bag (my usual travel bag is a Loewe mini puzzle); and you do not need prespend. But, it helps to be very polite, and a bonjour Madame, how are you, shouldnt be skipped if possible

Have fun on the rest of your first ever trip and don’t let Hermes take up all your time and energy . The LV foundation has great exhibits, and the dior museum is very nice. If the Modigliani exhibit is still on, it’s worthwhile. If you want a retail experience that is about a sixth the price of Hermes, I recommend Courreges. While they do have a presence in the US, the paris selection is great, and it’s cheaper. And Pierre Herme (bakery) probably shouldn’t be missed either.

ETA: bring comfy walking shoes (I wear navy leather birkenstock sneakers, and if you wear jewelry, I cover with long sleeves just in case.

ETA: there is always a chance of rain

ETA: if your concierge recommends a nouvelle restaurant shabour (a super fashionable reservation with a very popular Israeli chef) do NOT go. There is a cute neo bistro called le Mermoz which i think might be a nicer alternative
Curious why not shabour? It’s on a to try list for me.

Hey guys , thanks so much for the input here . It is always interesting to just go through the replies .

I just want to throw out a question here : provided you have received desirable service at the Paris Hermes shops ( by lottery / by walk-in only , but with good bag score or that you really clicked with the SA) , how many of you actually keep in touch with the SA and go back repeatedly to shop with the same SA ? And what is your experience with that ? A pro and con list would be informative to us all .

Many thanks in advance !

Over the past year, I have consistently shopped with two different sales associates - one for ready-to-wear items and one for the other departments. From my experience, I highly recommend finding a sales associate that you connect with as it can greatly enhance your shopping experience. Personally, I have found myself spending more time chatting with my sales associate than actually making purchases.

One potential downside to this approach is that you will need to coordinate your traveling dates and times in advance to ensure that your sales associate is available to assist you. If they are unavailable, you will either need to ask for a recommendation from another colleague or shop on your own.

Going on my first ever trip to Paris!! First stop is obviously Hermes! Understanding that there is a lottery system and even upon winning you still are not guaranteed a QB, I would like to remain in my fantasy land and am asking for any advice / tips when it comes to asking for a bag after scoring a leather appointment. I’m extremely nervous but sending out all the positive vibes I can! I would love a mini Kelly or B25. Has anyone had any luck getting a mini Kelly on their first leather appointment?

Thanks!
The bit in bold is difficult but not impossible, I mean I'm sure there have been lucky shoppers who were offered such desirable bags in their first leather appt, they just don't post here. Some have even got a chance to place an SO so never say never! (Ok, i've just said it twice... )

One thing I'd say is, if you do manage to get an appt, try not to overthink or over-analyse what you say/do on the day or what the SA says, and definitely don't try to find fault in yourself if you don't get offered your dream bag. I say this because I've seen too many posts on this thread and others asking TPFers what they did wrong during the appt, if they made themselves look like resellers which led to the SA not offering them anything, etc. It's not healthy and also pointless.

We met an amazing SA at my lottery leather appt last year and have shopped with her ever since (when we can travel to Paris). We just get on so well and can chat about anything, sometimes more chatting and laughing than shopping during the appts . She also consistently delivers in terms of wishlist items.

Pros and cons? Pros: can pre-schedule appts in advance and forego the dreaded lottery, pleasant and fun shopping experience. Cons: like @A.Ali said, you need to coordinate with them, so if your planned travel dates happen to be when they're on holiday/not working, you need to be flexible.

Basically have had one main SA since establishing both DH's and my shopping history at FSH 16 years ago. Have met quite a few others in different departments who help us and we have gotten to know them well. Having a long relationship opens many, many doors beyond just being Hermes customers; this is the part which we cherish and value most. I can't really think of any major cons as such. I go when I like and if my SA is on leave he arranges for his colleagues to help. That's service beyond the average have I read about here. I think the main difficulty for newer clients is not about wanting to keep in touch, but getting the SAs to respond to subsequent attempts to arrange appointments.

May I ask whether you live close to Paris in order to make this happen ?
Also would you think that going in once or twice a year will pose difficulty on the SA getting to know you and thus building a profile ? If you wouldn’t mind sharing , may I ask the approximate spending each time and whether you are ‘allowed’ or encouraged to ask for QBs? Or even just regular bags like a Lindy for example .

I make my appts well in advance, when I make my travel and hotel plans, as per their request. For my last two visits, abd one visit going forward, my regular SA, who is on year long maternity leave, arranged to have us shop with a colleague. With both SAs, we spend more time chatting and catching up about life in general (Covid, strikes, politics, travel, the Olympics, their august vacation, and life in general); maybe two hours chatting and one hour shopping.

I am fortunate to be primarily a RTW client; to have my first appt arranged through a connection (not lottery); to own a pretty sizable bag collection already; and, to go to Paris twice a year. My regular FSH SA and her covering colleague take care of me throughout the store. But, I’m not sure that she and her colleague would have continued to make future appointments with us except for the fact that my DH really happens to love talking with specialists, including premier luxury SAs and artisans of all kinds. He clicks with them, and they end up talking about everything, usually starting with all aspects of the business and the product. He loves beautiful things, but he is even more interested in the individual people we meet along the way. He truly doesn’t care whether I end up with a particular item or bag, and his attitude relaxes SAs.

DHs profile at my home store; at FSH; and in two locations in Asia (where my extended family is based). I get QB offers from the first two locations and reject more than I accept. I am new to Asia, so have only requested and received a gold evelyn TPM for my mom there (her request). All my SAs know how I shop and what I buy is usually a three way vote between DH, SA, and me, (they voted as unflattering an apron dress I loved, so I passed. Apparently the back view made them both cringe lol). Whether I buy really doesn’t seem to affect my offers, but I will buy anything that works on me; that I need and want; that is in my budget. I don’t come with a list or expectations, but I have a very definite style (and SAs can absolutely see that from what I wear in the first five minutes that they meet me. It’s also very clear thst I will absolutely be open to any of their suggestions, and take their aesthetic opinion into consideration.

I do not treat an SA like a waitress taking an order for xyz. I generally spend .5-2X+ RTW to one QB, and my DH and SAs prefer size 25 and size 28/30 on me. (Though mixed media 25B are too busy on me; I look like a bobble head somehow).
I don’t have a wishlist. When they ask me what I would like, i usually draw a blank. On the last visit, I rejected a 25B togo in favor of a 30 rainbow bolide. It was a magical moment when I said this pic of rainbow is the type of bag I love but don’t expect to find, and she came up with that exact bag. She said I could buy both, but the togo leather of the 25B honestly looked dull and drab in comparison. On two separate trips, my SAs picked a 28K quadrille and a 30B toile maxi bivouac (a brand new kind of toile that they had not seen before) bc they know one of my favorite pieces of RTW is a toile swift jacket. I would not have known to ask about either. I prefer to start with RTW, not bags, and I show them pics of favorite outfits and what bags i own, so they really understand my aesthetic quickly. It does help that I’m not asking for the hottest mini K; that I don’t think they are lying if they say that they don’t have x or y; and that I dont think the visit is a waste without a QB.

I did not have any prespend at FSH before my first appt and offer 25K. And, my spend at FSH isn’t particularly high compared to many others here. However, DH and I both shop RTW, and I personally wear both men’s and women’s RTW. My SAs are not as familiar with mens RTW, so they bring in a mens RTW specialist. This year, we had a new mens RTW specialist, and we ran into our first mens RTW specialist, so all of us, plus the mens wear manager had fun chatting, mainly about hart bakery in Copenhagen and the fact that it is better than most of not all bakeries in Paris.

Be polite, be considerate, and try to relax (i was very nervous at my first appt, and it was needlessly stressful). Shopping should be fun. I kind of believe the bag almost chooses you, and if you don’t get it, it wasnt meant to be, this time around. Don’t be afraid to speak up about what you like, but also be open to new suggestions. If you’ve gotten this far reading my post, I apologize for the length Lol.

16 years of history is truly remarkable !
We have received a business card from the SA this time around .
We tried to connect with different SAs that we met throughout the years but some simply write their names and emails down on a sheet of paper.
Do you think that handing out business card is a legit gesture of the SA wanting to connect with you ?

Sorry for overthinking this but I did have an experience of obtaining an email from an SA and ended up being ghosted ( we asked for the email instead of being given) . She did mention that in their shop their customer turnover is so high that they have no time to check their emails . So I am not sure if there was a foreboding of not wanting to connect with me . . .

I really like how you say the bag chooses you , kinda reminds me of how the wand chooses the wizard ( sorry I am a huge Harry Potter nerd)
Thank you for your hearty reply :)

thanks! When an SA says something like that, believe it. If you do not get a response to a text or email, just remember that they get literally hundreds of them daily. Don’t not take lack of response as anything personal (I found this philosophy also works with my family and in laws, and also some of their pets

I actually do not know. Some clients have reported getting a warm response back, after using the emails or WhatsApp/ WeChat given on cards/ notepads etc. Some others don't get any really reply and later find the SAs have not left the store. I cannot advise further and can only wish you luck.
