I will leave this reminder as a sticky because tthis is often a thread that new members (or new Hermès lovers) post on - hopefully temporarily.

That's what I normally do, and I just put my packed items inside the empty boxes. I always take the newly purchased bags in their dust bags and carry them in my carryon.
Yeah packing stuff into the empty boxes is like playing tetris lol. I also bring along a digital hook scale to make sure each luggage weight doesn’t tip over

Hi everyone, I am currently travelling in France and purchased a piece of silver jewellery from the store in Monaco. I am having second thoughts about it and wondering if it is possible for me to return or exchange this item in one of the Paris stores?

thanks for any replies.

FSH can ship anything abroad but bags, you will get vat deducted but will have to pay import tax and vat in your receiving country and of course shipping fee. I've done this many times.
Agree. I rather trust my FSH SAs who have shipped everything from bags in the past to RTW etc with VAT auto-deducted, it's always arrived fast and safely. UK VAT on arrival is high and might not make sense now, the total may end up slightly more expensive. My shipments generally go to my home country which has very low tax.

I had a question for the experienced shoppers. Do you have to carry your passport to the Hermes store or will a photocopy work? I’m scared to carry my ppt around Paris.
A funny aside ..my SA here was encouraging me to try the lottery system when I told her I’m going to Paris but not sure if I should even bother. She said 'you are very lucky' ..let’s hope it’s true
A clear photo on your phone is just fine for both appointment confirmation and for VAT application!!! Happy shopping!!

I have a different experience at Sevres. You have to bring the actual passport. I brought a copy yesterday and that was not sufficient to do detax paperwork at Sevres. However you are given 48 hours after purchase to return to store to finish the paperwork. I was like you weary to walk around with my passport. Apparently too many people use “borrowed“ passports to cheat the system.

Yes, you can exchange it or return for store credit as long as it is unused and within the return window.

Oh okay. I guess I will have to risk it.

I always bring my actual passport too. Tbh it feels safer when I have the passport with me instead of it sitting in the safe in the hotel room imo. I always carry it in a handbag that comes with a padlock and key, like a speedy or alma bb and wear it crossbody so pick pocketers can't get into it even if they try since the bag is all locked up. Never had an issue.
