I will leave this reminder as a sticky because tthis is often a thread that new members (or new Hermès lovers) post on - hopefully temporarily.

Hermes would never assign appointments based on passport origins. I have faith in that. I believe the only variable the online appointment system weights is # of consecutive appointment attempts. I've read on here that walking into the boutique after 7-8 online appointment rejections and explaining your situation to the hostess may get you assigned an appointment that very day.
Nonetheless, if you live in Paris you should perhaps consider developing a relationship with a SA at one of the three stores. My friend who is a local did just that and got her bag in only a few weeks. Without a purchase history FSH is your best bet. Don't give up though... you'll eventually get an appointment and your dream bag as well!

Which boutique did your friend go to?
Do you know if Hermes boutiques in Paris have high turnover rate of staff?? Or which boutique has the smallest turnover rate?
I've been doing the SA relationship game with Chanel for years, but since one year, it's been a nightmare: my regular SA left the company, got assigned to another who then was transferred to another boutique,, assigned another who didn't work at just one particular boutique but bounced between the boutiques depending on the week, then assigned another one who was great but was only an intern.... So now i am back to zero.

If I start to invest in a relationship in one of Hermes boutiques in Paris, which one do you recommend?
Thanks

My friend started a relationship with a SA at the George V store. anecdotally -- i don't see high staff turnover at FSH (where i shop). Most SA's I've chatted with over the years have been with the company for many years.
While FSH has the best inventory, the SAs work discretely for a particular department. So a SA in ladies shoes can't necessarily help you with a bag offer.
However, i do know SAs in rtw and jewelry will sometimes make bag offers to their vip clients directly or make the intro with a leather specialist to do the same. But these may be one-offs for big spenders. Perhaps this is why most locals prefer the other two stores... So they can develop a more holistic relationship with one SA that they groove with.
I would keep trying your luck with FSH's online system to see if you can get the bag you're looking for and in the interim develop a relationship with a SA at one of the two other stores.

Sorry i am asking the same question here.
If I start to invest in a relationship in one of Hermes boutiques in Paris, which one do you recommend? More specifically which boutique has the smallest turnover rate of staff?

If I start to build a relationship with an SA, I would live to choose wisely which boutique to go if you see what i mean:smile:

I don't live in Paris (but in London), so I won't be able to help you :(. I would tend to think that it's better to go on a smaller one, like Sèvres.
Also, you can sometimes try Hermès boutique outside Paris. I'm thinking about Lille, just one hour by train from Gare du Nord. The SAs there are very welcoming and they have an interesting inventory.

Thanks for the details information and advise. I think that’s what I will try to do.

I have been rejected many times in the past as well. I have a chinese last name, probably just extremely unlucky but it crossed my mind that they may have looked at my last name and rejected me. Whether or not they do, only they know for sure.

From what I read on here and my background in modeling/stats I believe H's online appointment system is randomized with the model only weighting consecutive appointment attempts and possibly number of confirmed appointments within a certain (small) time-frame-- nothing else. I think their objective was to remove the human element and create a true 'lottery' type system. It makes zero business sense for H to marginalize people from one of their biggest growth regions. I'm not Chinese or Asian but would promptly stop shopping there if they were selecting appointments based on surname. It would be unethical and a PR nightmare-- I'm certain its something they would never do.

When you say weighting on "consecutive appointment attempts", does it mean that it's not good to try every day??

I really do wonder if there’s just less staff working there right now due to covid, hence less availability for appointments. Likely that means less artisans working too, less bags. It will be a while until staffing and production are on track to normal levels.

My understanding is that bag production has been affected by Covid with less artisans in the workshops due to splitting teams people quarantining etc

Thanks. Yah it may very well just be my luck.
I’ve probably attempted 5 consecutive times each trip so I’m nowhere close to the 14 days others have experienced.
I didn’t bother after but good to know this, I shall attempt in the future once again. thank you

the current situation in France is that no lockdown, and everyone is allo to go to work, however curfew at 6pm. So the business hours of the boutiques and the production hours have been reduced slightly. Normally Hermes open until 7pm. So I don’t think this really affects that drastically the availabilities of appointments and bags.
