I absolutely love reading about all the successful "hunts" at FSH  but ladies, please stay safe in Paris. Three weeks ago an acquaintance got robbed while walking down the stairs to the metro station (I think the name of the station was the French word for Spring). Two men wrapped in scarfs accosted her and her little daughter. One behind her and one in from of her. They ripped a gold necklace off her neck!

Obviously a very traumatising experience. Her baby was screaming, she was in utter shock! The gold chain was not even that valuable so the assumption is that maybe this was a practice run  It"s a sad reality but leave your valuables at home when going to Paris. I don't mean to create any panic but better safe than sorry.

I assume you are talking about “Printemps”. I’m going frequently to Paris but I never use the subway. Shopping at Hermès and carrying the signature orange bag has only once attracted a woman’s attention who obviously was a tourist lurking by FSH and asking me why I got a bag and they didn’t offer her one. I told her that bags are limited and that I don’t shop a bag every time I visit the store.

FSH is my homestore, they provide delivery to hotels nearby, which I’ve used once. Like in many major cities it’s good to be aware of your surroundings. Sorry to hear about your acquaintance being robbed. Must have been a horrible experience. I’m going to Paris in January and if the bagsection is crazy I’m not bothering to ask for an appointment, I will rather shop something else on my list. Looking forward seeing some amazing bags on clients though.

I think a general rule to travel by is only carry what you feel you can lose, whether it’s money, jewellery or handbags. And if you do travel with precious items, make sure they are insured. Bon voyage

Thanks for the feedback and I am really glad that nothing happened to you! Of course I am insured but can you insure against the trauma of it all?

You just need to be aware of your surroundings like any other large city. Paris is no worse and arguably better.

Really? Well, it"s not like she was stumbling blindly around the city and happened to tear her necklace by running into someone"s extended arm...She was aware of her surroundings. But how do you defend yourself when a guy comes up in front of you and just grabs you while another is standing behind your back? Are you saying that she wasn't paying enough attention? Seriously? I think I"d definitely notice someone who invades my personal space and assaults me. And she definitely did too but couldn't help it.

I am glad that you"ve had such a wonderfull experience in Paris. But the problem is not my acquaintance paying too little attention to her surroundings. It's the fraudsters, pick-pockets, crooks and violent, criminal elements that seem to control so many of the public spaces of that wonderfull city. It can improve but the first step is acknowledging the real problems, which exist and not dismissing the victims very real, terrifying first hand experiences.

Thanks! Yes, she really has PTSD and needs treatment as does her little girl. It was very scary. They normally do not ever encounter any violence even though they live in a city. By the way, they are French, know their surroundings and speak the language.

Hi everyone, I will be visiting Paris in Dec during winter time, just wondering if you all carry B/K around when travelling because will be wearing such thick winter clothings right. Is it safe? Or will be easily snatched by pickpockets?

Thanks for advice.
I hope this doesn't sound too blunt but if bringing your B/K will cause you to worry it's best to leave it at home along with any other valuables that you'd be afraid to lose. The last thing you want is the additional stress.

Totally agree. I did not carry any luxury branded bag and almost got pick pocketed in Rome.(the guy was asking us to sign some petition or survey) He hid his hand behind survey board and I saw his hand going into my bag, I screamed and he went away very quickly (stressing with his hands that he did not take anything) like puhleasee. (this happened in broad daylight) Sorry, I know this is a Paris shopping thread but for those who never had such encounters, good for you BUT sorry to say that Europe made us feel so unsafe and anxious, at least for me. Paris is a beautiful and charming city and I really love it there to be honest but I would definitely not be carrying any expensive bags, coat and all.

I’m sorry but it feels like this conversation is starting to go off topic, I try to stay on topic in my comments to this thread.

I always carry a B/K in Paris and FSH, because it’s fun to see other people’s bags and I guess many of the customers think alike. My shoppinglist on my forthcoming trip includes a belt, an exotic cardcase, a scarf if the new collection has arrived, a charm and possibly a bag. I also need refills to my Ulysses large notebook. Every time I shop at the ” mothership” I end up buying something unexpected, because the selection is so different from online. I’m also going to browse the shoes&rtw collection. Perhaps even go to the famous Hermès sales.

Here is my experience:

-came to Paris beginning of October and tried for 4 days with my SO. Rejected everyday, Total of 10 rejections. Ended up just enjoying the city:)
- came to Paris again for 5 days, have been rejected 5 times already. Attempted to ask for cancellations today after 4PM but they were really busy and said there were no cancellations. I did see an SA bring his client in to get an appointment but the client didn’t want to wait. It looks like they were going to squeeze her in.

Tomorrow will be my last day, let’s see what I get in the next hour!

I also have purchase history in Paris, I shop at FSH, found out my SA moved out of the country:(

I left Texas on Friday evening for Paris. Of course in my rush, I forgot to register for an appointment on Saturday. After checking in to my hotel Saturday I took a nap and headed over to FSH around 5 pm.

I checked to see if there were any appointments available and of course there weren’t. I asked for my previous SA but she was off. So instead I was introduced to a new SA who helped me with my other items. Later that evening I applied for an appointment. Unfortunately I forgot to confirm with the code. So I missed two chances to register.

I’m no fan of this system and was not looking forward to investing a lot of time chasing down an appointment with no guarantee of getting a bag. So Monday morning I registered for an appointment and went to FSH around 11 am. Of course no appointment.

On a whim, I decided to try George V. I had no intention of running from store to store but I had worked with a lovely SA there years ago and I always pop in to say hello. When I arrived and asked for her they told me she’d left the company. So I asked if anyone else was available to help me. The young lady asked me what I was looking for and I told her a Birkin. She informed me that they now require appointments but that she would try to work me in although it could be a long wait.

I said that was perfectly fine and settled in for the wait. About three minutes later she came for me and introduced me to the SA who would help me. I was quite shocked by how fast they got to me. He took me aside and asked me for specifics on what I wanted. I really wanted a pop color this time but included classic black which I needed in my collection.

He left for about 15 minutes and came back with a black B35 with ghw. This is my fifth B purchase in Paris and it was by far the fastest and the easiest. I’m thankful that I can go on and enjoy the rest of my week without the stress of the appointment system. I can’t believe this happened at George V which can be hit or miss. The SA and hostess were quite pleasant and cheerful. It was a lovely experience all around.

Good luck to all of you still on the hunt.

Wanted to share my experience so far, since this thread has been so helpful as I’ve been planning my paris trip.

4 rejections from FSH, tried my luck at Sevres Monday morning and was able to score an appointment for around 2pm. Had a nice SA who asked for my wishlist and served us coffee. After about 5 minutes, returned and said no B/K at all available.

Overall a pleasant experience, but obviously disappointed that I didn't have any luck. My DH sympathized with me and said I shouldn’t fall to “victim blaming” (lmao), since I was recounting my every word and was convinced I did or said something wrong. I was very polite but thought maybe I should have conversed a bit more with my SA before saying I was looking for a B/K?

When you ladies get a leather appointment and the SA asks what you are looking for, do you immediately tell them your B/K/C wishlist? Or do you tell them other stuff and browse those first before broaching the BKC subject? I just figured that during a leather appointment...they already know you are looking for a bag...

Thanks for any advice! Tomorrow is my last full day in Paris and already reject d from FSH so may try Sevres again (as I heard its better than George V..?). Thanks ladies!!! :flowers:
