Curious about this chip… how fragile is it? What would damage or deactivate it?
As far as I know, physically it is quite strong, its tiny size helps a lot in this regard, so to achieve substantial physical damage, you also need to ruin the bag: burn it, cut it up, etc... you could also deactivate them digitally, but the Vuitton chips are password protected.
One thing that is rarely mentioned, is that these chips have a best before date. People freaked out about not having the printed codes anymore, but almost nobody though about the only really serious problem with the chip: that while a date code from the early-90's is still visible and readable, the chip won't work in a few decades. Vuitton picked one of the best and most expensive RFID chips, but even that has an "up to 10 years" lifespan. So to sum it up, these chips are quite strong, the real threat for them is time itself.

Thanks @BULL. I am reassured that through regular usage it would be extremely difficult to damage it. I’ve had credit cards replaced before because of unresponsive chips but the card itself didn’t show any physical damage hence my concern. My new Padlock On Strap has the chip right where the belt would be threaded through so repeated use (friction, pressure, etc) so close to my body had me concerned initially.
So this time limiting factor is interesting… going back to be credit cards scenario, those companies automatically send me a new one in the mail every couple of years once the expiration approaches. Will LV send me a new bag in a decade too? Hahahahaha

This is an interesting facts for me. Thank you for sharing. I hope no issues in the long run with the chips. ;)

My bag has the microchip. Walking out of a store yesterday it set off the security alarm. Luckily the security officer was understanding when I told him the purse had a microchip. Has anyone else had this experience? I am not going to be happy if every time I go shopping, I have to explain this as I’m being chased down by security!
Interesting. I have a few newer bags with a microchip. Never encountered this issue. It must be a high level security sensor sensitivity or malfunction on the part of the store you went into.

I'm hoping the encryption and tech is strong here, because Nintendo has NFC in their amiibo cards and those are replicated all the time. I understand that there are two separate industries here but still... would be interesting to see how the counterfeit market takes to these measures.

Everyone, please help! I haven’t been buying much from LV lately so I’m completely out of date with all the changes recently about the no date codes. I ordered a mono Felicie Pochette over the phone and just received it today. Not only I can’t find the date code but on the stamp it only says Louis Vuitton Paris. Didn’t say where it was made. Is this normal? Should I take it to my local LV store to authenticate and check the code? PLEASE HELP! Thanks in advance!

Normal. You can take it to your local LV shop, and they can scan your bag for a microchip, which should say when it’s made and where. Unless the item is made in France, it won’t be stamped in the bag, so your bag could be made in Spain or USA.

Thank you so much for your response! My other LV SA also just responded to my question. She said that this one is made in the US. I feel relieved at least knowing it’s authentic.
