News on date codes!

Yes it’s a chip inside now- I called as soon as mine came! So weird. You have to take it in to find out where/when you’re bag was produced.
Do you know where the chip is located? I just got my Mon Mono Speedy 35 today and it doesn't have a date code (which I expected) but not sure where to find the chip. I guess it doesn't matter if I find it since I ordered a Mon Mono online and know it's real. Mostly curious. And I kinda geek out on knowing when it was produced.

I scanned it outside the bag where the pocket it is! A code comes up but not a date code.

You don't understand how happy I am to have found this thread I was panicking so bad. I just bought my first LV bag, the alma bb and I couldn't find the code anywhere.

Also, the reason I was looking for it, is I'm considering exchanging it. The handles on mine are super wrinkled where the leather curves and I have googled images of the bag and no one else's seems as bad.

I was wondering anyone's opinion on this, is this common or am I being extra fussy as it's my first LV?

Also any advice on the LV exchange process? is it difficult?

(I have the alma bb in the monogram) :D

I know people have said it a million times, but this thread is a life saver!! So glad I found it!! I was tired of waiting for my boutique to get an Empreinte Bumbag in Noir, so I bought it from a reseller. It came today and it is PERFECT!! Brand new, never worn, all the tags, spotless dust bag, original box & receipt. BUT!!! No date code tag!! I was losing my mind because I was so disappointed. Not to mention I “think” I can spot a fake a mile away. And the bag is PERFECT, so I thought I’d been had. This thread is such a relief.

I just received a Toiletry 15 which I ordered online and was not expecting to see a date code. I was so happy to find one...UB1231 so it was probably made around the last week that they used date codes. I realize that for many it is not a big deal but I have always liked knowing when my bag/SLG was made. Kind of like a birthday.

Received my LV neo noe today (the seller bought it from store YESTERDAY and right away sold it on Carousel) and as soon as I couldn't find the date code I look for the microchip. I download this app called NFC Tools (I use Poco phone), scan the whole outer side of the bag and couldn't find anything. Until I scan the inner pocket, at the bottom, my phone beep and show me this:

It says nothing about LV, just a bunch of random codes. Really hope in the future there will be cheat sheet to decipher all these codes :-/

This is interesting. Although this data cannot be turned into anything useful without access to Louis Vuitton's private servers and blockchain authenticators. This only tells the manufacturer (which is a Swiss company), and the 8 Byte serial number, which in this form is just a generic number, doesn't mean anything, random by design.

Which bag was it?

I purchase my alma bb in march and the guy said it already has the chip and couldn’t see the date code today I saw the date code and tried to scan it and it had the chip too. Has anyone else experienced this?

I had been stalking the giant monogram reverse Onthego MM for a few months now which have been sold out online this entire time but I asked my SA to be the look-out in case her store received one. Then, I noticed that either in April or May (2021) the price for this bag online increased from $2,6XX.00 (I think it was $2,630.00 specifically) to $2,770.00.

My SA contacted me a couple days ago to let me know they just got a couple of them in, and she would hold one for me. I went into the store (she works at the Louis Vuitton inside Fashion Show Mall in Las Vegas, NV) and I purchased it without taking a closer look at it.

When I brought it home, I inspected it and noticed there is no “Made in XX” label or date code tag sewn in or printed anywhere in the bag. I googled it to see if maybe the date code was just hidden really well and I was simply overlooking it, and was linked this PF thread talking about the date codes being replaced with chips!

So, I texted my SA (who was recently promoted to a manager position by the way) this morning to ask about it and she confirmed that yes, all date codes have been replaced with chips inside the bag that only Louis Vuitton locations can scan and read. I asked her when this change went into effect, and her response was 2019!!! She said she believes that all bags manufactured from 2019 to present should have chips instead of date codes inside of them.

Can anyone dispute this? Does anyone have a bag made in 2020 or even 2021?

I’m concerned about resellers who “authenticate” LV products and their claims that “all LV bags manufactured after 1982 have date codes”, because if my SA is correct then this is no longer true....
