News on date codes!

The chip on is on the front flap. I brought my online purchased PM to a store and that is where they scanned it. Mine also has a date code tag as well. It was weird that the tag and the chip was off by a week on production date. The SA said it was nothing abnormal about it.

I've picked up my Pochette Métis Empreinte yesterday and have used the NFC Tools app because mine doesn't have a date code as well anymore.
For me it was just to be sure that there was any chip in the bag at all, but will let it scan in store next time to see the complete information of the bag

Over here a short video while using the app:

just received my new Métis Purse. I am excited. However when I exam the Métis.
I found The new Métis I received however has no date code inside. No made in stamp and no date date. Is it a new norm? No date code makes me nervous. There is rumours lv is phasing out date code, instead using chips . i see date code as one way to verify it’s legit . There is no lv store in town I am living so if Chips is the future, then for us in small town it is harder to virtually see authenticity as 1st thing.

Anyone else got purse with no date code?

I am debating whether to return it

That is a myth. Datecodes provide 0 authenticity. Stores won't check authenticity on second-hand items with a chip, just as they didn't do it in the past with date coded items.
The second-hand market did lost a falsely trusted aspect of authenticity, but it won't affect anyone who buys directly from Vuitton.
I'd recommend you to keep the bag and enjoy it. All new items will be like this, no reason for a return or exchange.

I am not sure if I agree on this “ That is a myth. Datecodes provide 0 authenticity. ”. To me date code provide peace if mind if it matches made in stamp and the rest digits make sense

Of course It is not the only way to verify legit . One also check others such as hardwares.

With date code at least u can see it. But microchips. U can’t see it and there is no app or device is able to decode it unless u bring it to lv store(for repair). For 2nd hand market isn’t it easy to fake in this case? U may argue that microchip could be used to authenticate. Yes if u have access to these codes and decode it.problem is a lot of people don’t have access of it

The country lists on the internet are not official. They were all made by fans like you and me. And fake factories have access to them, so they can generate OK-looking codes whenever they want.
I liked the codes, they were fun to read, but they were not as useful as most people try to feel.

Vuitton deliberately chose to remove the codes to choke the second-hand market. They want people to buy directly from them, and from them only, and keep their items for a lifetime. That way authenticity is never an issue.

If you purchased directly from LV why would you be nervous?

eta: is this the same bag you posted about earlier this month regarding this issue? You brought up the reselling down the line issue as a concern then. Just like every other brand that has made changes to their 'hallmarks' the LV secondary marketers will just have to adjust accordingly. As a frequent poster in the eBay forum, I can tell you that reselling a $$$$ item under any circumstances can be a dicey proposition.

Any element is capable of being faked. The fun part about buying from LV is that the authenticity question is settled.

If your big concern is reselling, you'd be wise to return it. You will lose money, and frankly I think you already kinda hate it if its chip is your issue.

Hi all

I have just received my new Noe bb bag. I looked on the side straps and no date code whay so ever. Got in a panic that they forgot it and have a defective bag. Called LV and they say that I have the new microchip bag. Glad i saw this thread was going to return it.

Thank you for the information!
I just got my new Noe BB, I also looked inside and out, no date code anymore (usually on the side strap near the D ring), I am kinda disappointed, I want to see when it was manufactured. Well, The bag looks perfect, I am keeping it forever.

Folks,
I*m glad, I read your post. Because today I received my parcel from LV. First time ever I ordered directly from the LV Shop online and not second / third Hand. Unpacked my Neverfull Summer b.t.P and started searching for the datacode, and ...nothing
The Papers itself didn*t give a clue either, the tiny envelope included a blank piece of paper.....
but reading your posts, it means that this is regular standard now , the microchip. Question then, could the blank piece of paper in the small evenlope be a part of the RFID ?

You don't mean the blank card they give you to write a note to give as a gift, right? Otherwise I've not received a blank piece of paper in a small envelope. Only small pieces of paper with the item name and number.

I recently purchased City Steamer Mini and picked it up in the Louis Vuitton store this week. I was never told in store about it no longer having a date code. I came home called both customer service and text my SA and they told me this is how it would be going forward to cut down on counterfeit bags. I only wished I was told this sooner because for so long I was searching this bag looking for a date code.
P.S I'm happy I found this forum!
