Has anyone been actually able to locate a chip inside an slg or bag?
I was able to locate the chip by scanning for it in my new agenda, NFC app on my phone. I couldn’t find the date code in the usual location so it lead me to believe it’s a March 2021 item. The output from the scan was gibberish to me. I think the codes can be translated by the LV scanners, as they created the codes for each of the chips that are now in the new items.

Although this might not matter a lot but it was an interesting thing I encountered a few weeks ago: The chips have been put in the items for much longer. I don‘t know since when exactly, but a bag I brought in for repair (which obviously also still had a physical „oldschool“ datecode) was scanned and I had bought it in early 2020 (it was manufactured at the end of 2019).

The scanned info by the way states the exact date and place of manufacture.

I am personally happy about this as I only buy from LV directly because I would be way too worried about fakes. This technology is a quick and very effective way for authentification if there is need for a repair (like with my item). Although of course all my purchases are stated within my purchase history it can still be a gift, for example, which will now not be a problem at all.
I do like to know when my items were made but that got even better now as well as I now know the exact „birthday“ of my bag after seeing the scan.

Interesting, how does the output from the scan looks like? How long?

Today, I received the Empreinte Multi Pochette in Noir and there’s no date code. However, my CA sent me a pic of the same bag in Cream and it has a date code. He has two Cream Multi Pochettes and only one has a date code. My CA told me not to worry about not seeing a date code and this is the new normal. I’ve recently received other items that have date codes.5128715C-F9B2-4B6E-A452-CD829A447B10.jpeg1334F36C-D0F1-413E-BD2D-330B468101B9.jpeg

As I was told by LV Client Services: All bags and slg’s, produced AFTER March 1st, 2021, no longer have datecodes, but a micro chip, which can be read by LV only. This to fight -super-fakes!

I tried 2 apps before I found this app that worked. iPhone 12. New Alma BB. View attachment 5046218
WOW. Very interesting. For those of you worrying about authentication, I have bad news. I though, that this tech is the future, but is is a very short term future. I checked the specifications of the chip they use. The data retention capability is up to 10 years. Which is nice in the tech world, but in the world of vintage Vuittons, it is a blink of an eye. There are tons and tons of 10+ years old bags on the second-hand market.

I downloaded the NFC Tools App and I was able to scan my item that has an NFC chip. I scanned it twice. The last eight alpha numeric characters of the serial number was the same on both scans. The tag type is also unique. The serial number is 16 alpha numeric characters. I’m unsure as to what any of the information means. However, it was reassuring that I was able to scan it. The app allows you to save the scan but because the scan is not unique, I didn’t save it.
Another interesting thing, the smaller pochette from the multi did not scan. My CA said the chip is in the larger Pochette. I think this is very interesting considering some people tend to sell some of their items that are bundled like the multi Pochette. I hope this new technology ends the replica market and curb reseller habits (those who buy for the purpose of reselling only).
