I bought a Speedy B 30 yesterday from LV in Bloomingdale’s. No code. I was freaking out then saw this thread. If it’s embedded somewhere (which I dislike), how can we find out where/when our bag was made?? That’s part of it being personalized. Thank you for any help. ❤️

Hi! I saw a Youtube video on this thread I think, where the lady had an SA hold up a phone/scanner to the chip and information about the bag came up. I am not sure about the content of the information but look through this thread and the Youtube video she made is posted. I hope this helps.

Thanks! Do I have to take my new bag and receipt back to LV for them to scan it and tell me the code?

I purchased a Pochette Metis in monogram from my closest store on Friday, which is about an hour from me. Before I bought it I asked if they would scan it first because I want to be able to have that information for my own records. Maybe I want to sell one day or just for curiosity sake. Anyways, the gentleman helping me tried and tried to get it to scan with no luck. So, I asked if the manager could help and again no luck. I don't know why it wasn't scanning, maybe just a glitch that day. So I reluctantly purchased it and brought it home.

When I told my husband what happened he said I shouldn't have taken that one and waited until they could find me one that will scan, which was the only one they had that day. So I'm pretty sure I'm going to take it back and exchange for one that will scan or if they can get mine to scan I'll keep it. After all, this is how they are supposed to fight counterfeiters. And what if I have issues with it down the road, will they refuse to repair it? I was just curious on peoples thoughts and opinions. This is all so new. What will you do if they can't get it to scan?

BTW, My husband purchased a neonoe in caramel the week before for me and they easily scanned it and I wrote the information down for that bag.

LV generates a unique identifier for every single item, and puts them on a blockchain. Like Bitcoin. They cannot be copied or modified without ruining the entire chain, which is held privately by LVMH. So noone from the outside can add new items to the database. Each identifier contains the exact date (not just the week) and a long list of other data about materials, manufacturing, etc... that is all tied to the RFID chip that is sewn into the products.
Vuitton can scan the chips in stores with their iPads, and check the data on their blockchain for authenticity and other info. If they are generous, they will open it up for clients, so they can also access some data with their phones. But surely not everything.
You can hunt for the few last items they have with an old stamped code, but soon only some unpopular items will be like that on the shelves. But what the code did, these chips do it 1000x better. But at the moment, you need to ask LV to decode it for you. But the original codes were also not meant for us anyway.
Thank you very much. This is so helpful! I may be one of the few, but this is prompting me to go ahead and get that Cannes with the old date code ( I like the old system) despite the new system being so much better.

Agree that date codes should not be used for authentication purposes but the were. I wonder now if this would deter (or at least could slow down) people from buying pre-loved items.

IMHO, Date code is used for showing the manufacturing date. It should not be used for authentication.

Couldn't agree more.

I agree but they seem to not have much information on how this works. Maybe they weren't looking in the right spot. Lol. But I would take it back in and see if they can find it again. If the bag is otherwise perfect u might be better off keeping that one! As long as the scan works...
Thanks for your reply. I'll see what they say when I go back this weekend.

LV should still have a record of your purchase in your profile, right? I can't imagine that being able to scan an item will be the only way that LV can identify their merchandise if it needs to be repaired. I do understand that you would feel better if you had one that works the way it's supposed to, though.

I heard bags made in the USA would have a paper tag stating "MIUSA", but not on the item. I also heard the rumours of the new chip technology that can be scanned by the stores to verify the bag's ID/authenticity. Hoping others who have made recent purchases can verify this.
So I JUST purchased a mono speedy b 30 and no date code to be found...so I won’t know anything else about the bag until I take it to the store ‍♀️

Well, there was a video on here the other day. The SA did put the phone in the bag in such an illogical position. The NFC antenna is in the top-right corner of the iPhones. They should be aware of that.
And I also believe that they don't know the chip's exact location for every bag. But a Métis is big and dense, so they should put that phone corner deep in all the inner pockets.
