Whoa, sales associates are also PEOPLE, who deserve a modicum of respect whether they're earning an hourly wage in the service industry or not. And, because I actually AM employed as an SA and can say for sure, there's nothing in the SA contract that says you must be an abject doormat to the whims of every customer that comes in the door. You still get to be a human, whether customers want to treat you that way or not.

It's cliche, but this is why everyone should have to work in the service industry for awhile. It gives you some perspective on how millions of Americans get treated every day.

i'm going to have to agree with what intlset said, even though i'm an SA as well (i sell high-end appliances). the people we're complaining about are those that have treated us unfairly, and those people are not doing their jobs and deserve whatever treatment they get from the customers that they are insulting. i would never do or say the things that these SAs we're talking about do because i'm a professional in a place of business. i'm paid to perform specific duties and i respect that. those duties are friendliness and helpfulness. i'm not paid to be in a bad mood or have a bad day, and i'm certainly not paid to take it out on unsuspecting customers. they don't come in to talk about my feelings, they come in to find out about products. if these SAs want to keep their jobs, they should perform them for all customers.

i think working retail has made me harder on SAs, because good customer service is really not difficult. before i worked retail, i just assumed it must be horrible so i really couldn't blame them, but it's not. most people are at least cordial, if not very nice. i've had customers offer me as much as the free use of vacation homes, bring back food for my department, and come back to say hi and chit chat when they come back to look at something else in the store. people really aren't as freakishly horrible as most people in retail make them out to be.

My story isn't about a store but a car dealership! My dad, mom, and I were at the Lexus dealership earlier today looking for a new car for my brother. My dad asked the dealer all types of questions, because he already has bought a car from there and he knows what he's talking about. We're looking around the lot to find the perfect car and we find one that my brother will like. The guy then takes us inside the dealership where one of his co-workers ask, "Another sale?" and he looks at us. And you know how people say you can tell what someone is thinking by looking at their eyes? Well, I was looking and he started at my father then back at the man with a "What do YOU think?" kind of way. I know my dad isn't the most well dressed person, but he makes enough money to provide for my family and provide us with some luxuries as well. We sit down at his desk, and my dad starts asking more questions and the man gives us half-asses responses. I was getting pretty mad. Then, my dad sees someone he knows and the lady comes up to him and shakes his hand and says "Oh, Doctor! It's so nice to see you!" from that moment on, the dealer person kisses ass like no other. I was so furious that until then he was giving us such bad service. He is a senior member too! Luckily, he ended up giving us a great deal on the car.

Buttttttt, to stay on topic. I think Gucci SAs are the WORST!

I didn't read all the postings so sorry if someone already said this but "You cannot be nice going into an expensive store, such as LV. You gotta be totally ignoring the sales people and look really *****y!" LOL! I mean it though. I always get treated nicely in those stores. Golden rules!

I was at Clinique earlier and I wanted to pick up some facial cleanser for my boyfriend, and when she heard me say it was for a guy she's like "no, he needs the men's line." :) I told her that their men's products weren't necessary and he likes what I'm buying for him just fine. :( they then proceeded to talk about how I didn't know what I was talking about to each other, with me standing RIGHT THERE! I bought the two products anyways ( because I'm a big pushover and can't stand up for myself sometimes!) but hmph. :)

Same here... my bf likes my Shiseido facial cleanser because it's milder and it makes his face really soft. He prefers this over other men's line.

I hate the dumb associates. They think they're hot **** because they work at LV. First of all they're retail associates. It's not like they are working at the corporate offices of LVMH.
It doesn't matter if you as a consumer are making a purchase or not. Each consumer deserves the same amount of respect and curiosity. Now, when I purchase anything from LV I usually go to SAKS where I can be treated fairly and with respect.

I couldn't agree more. The ones here are terrible. They give me the once over when I walk in and go back to talking amongst themselves. Hardly anyone is ever in that store, I wonder why :suspiciou

Don't even get me started about Gucci. So RUDE! Are they suppose to only acknowledge people who dress up all the time or wat? The only person i would buy gucci bags from is from my neighbor who works at the gucci boutique. of course she is a sweetheart. (she better be i live right next to her lol)

AMEN! The Toronto store is THE WORST!!!!! As a matter of fact, they even made the news when they told this woman to leave the store because she had a coffee in her hand and they also did it in a SUPER RUDE way! But the woman turned out to be none other than Renée Zellweger!!!:amazed:

Here is a blurb from the news article:

"Some of the other Chicago stars who get to use their chops in the film are Queen Latifah and, believe it or not, Richard Gere. We hear he has a pretty good singing voice. Renée Zellweger also stars, although she is garnering more attention off screen. She will forever be remembered in Toronto for the headlines she made when she was kicked out of Gucci on Bloor St. Apparently bringing a take out coffee into the shi shi boutique is a big no-no. Not to worry. She found her way to Zara's just down the street."

Hilarious ! Way to kick an A list star out of the store. And this is why I don't even bother going in, I love how it looks and it's right beside Bang and Olufsen, buuuut.. I know it'll be crap. I rather like how I can just waltz in and ignore the SAs at the Gucci counter at Yorkdale.

My LV experiences have been very pleasant! I go to the boutique in Saks at the Polaris mall here in Columbus, and so far my visits have been good ones. :-)

I was *really* surprised the second time I visited, because the SAs recognized me right away, and it had been a couple of weeks since my first visit! I wanted to see a wallet. I looked at a couple, didn't see anything that rang my bells, and the SA suggested the Passport Organizer, which I immediately fell in love with.

I love my SAs. :-)

who's your fave? Rebecca (blond girl) is my normal SA, and sometimes Khoa...Tyler's (tall dark haired guy) cool, too.

I work retail while I'm in school, and I agree with Amanda. I expect much more from SAs now that I am one. I've decided that I should work at LV. They'd be lucky to have me because I'm friendly, excited about the product, and knowledgeable. I'm certain I could sell more bags than a somber SA who looks like she'd rather be shot than sell me a bag!

Sadly, I think it just depends on who you get and when you're in the store (super busy vs. empty). When I bought my Babylone tote at LV in Atlanta a few weeks ago, the sales associate that was "helping" me didn't really impress so I won't ask for her again. It's been a couple of years since I was in there, and I do recall various people being nicer on that visit.

Neiman Marcus was okay at best. Here I am carrying a HUGE LV bag and box, and I was being treated like I couldn't afford anything. Then there was the time I was carrying my tiny Hermes bag (a keyring) on Rodeo Drive and looking like a cheap tourist, and I got the best service of my life from Lalique to Tiffany and everything in between.

Hermes was fine in Beverly Hills, pretty awful in Atlanta. They have one purse that makes me drool, but I know I'll never spend that kind of cash so I'll get the Sigrid Olsen instead from Dillards. LOL

I'd probably be spreading my purchases around so I can't really cultivate a great sales associate in the process, but I do wish everyone would cut the snotty attitude. You can't tell who has money, and you should be nice to everyone.
