I have had good and bad experiences as well in NYC and Long Island. I enjoy shopping online, but nothing beats the personalized attention and the way they take your bag "in the back" to wrap it up and bag it for you. Makes you feel like a million $$$

The LV SA I met was very friendly! She just so nice and helpful even if you not planning to buy anything. She was the best SA I met very good hearted if I want to buy anything I will definitely go to her! Some dior on the other hand.......

I've never had an experience get really bad, at the first sign of attitude I'll turn it right back at them and show them who is boss  Most of them know me in there, but it has happened when a noob will be an ass. This doesn't last long though. I think the worst person I've ever encountered at LV was a security guard. I know a couple of them well since I spend so much time there, and they usually let me bring my drink in. However, this noob security guard rudely stopped me and asked me to put my drink down before entering the store, needless to say I was pissed, basically because of the rudeness, not because of the rules. I reported his ass, and thankfully have not seen him again. Maybe he still works there, but hopefully he has learned that you can't be an ******* to good customers :D

I think that they're fine. They let you do your own thing and will answer questions if you have them. I work in retail and I have to be super friendly- because that's the image my particular company wants to portray. Some companies ( such as Abercrombie and Hollister) actually tell their employees to not bother being all about customer service, because that's not what their brand is about.

Who knows, my huge pet peeve, is when some poor SA is having an obviously bad day- and a customer treats them terribly, and then reports them to a manager. SA's DO get in trouble for that kind of stuff ( I've only been complained about once ever, and the woman was a total *****- no lies). :) No matter how terrible my service, I would NEVER approach a manager like a spoiled brat and point out a bad SA.

PS- this has nooothing to do with what the girl above me said, lol- I didn't even read her post untill I posted mine. :)

I guess some SA's are always going to rub people the wrong way- I've had some nasty ones ruin my shopping experiences, but I try not to let it bother me too much, it's just a job they have to do.

Thanks, Dani, for defending all the SAs out there! I'm actually a part-time SA for a designer boutique (mostly clothes, not too many bags) and, really, SAs take a lot of crap from people and still try very hard to be pleasant (for the most part, there are certainly some bad seeds!). I find that most customers just want to be left alone when they shop but try very hard to help those who do want help. So if an SA is ignoring you, a few words will probably get him or her to pay more attention to you. We just don't want to be pushy, especially with REALLY expensive clothing or accessories. But I do understand not wanting to shop at stores with less than helpful SAs, I certainly stay away from them too.

BTW, my funniest SA story was when a woman came in with 3 kids to shop for clothes. The store I work for is not kid friendly at all (just not set up to accomodate little kids, we don't mind them!), so the woman was desperately trying to get these 5 year old twin boys to sit still and trying to keep her baby girl from getting too grumpy. She finally picks out all the clothing she wants to try on and just hands me the baby before she goes in the dressing room!! I can't IMAGINE handing some strange woman your baby while you go try on tons of clothes. And the baby was NOT happy to be without her mother, let me tell you. She cried and the boys tore around the store and I thought I was going to lose my mind!! But the woman trying on clothes was as calm as can be. It was crazy...

I've had mixed experiences at LVs. I find that the busier they are, the more likely they will ignore me or service someone else (usually someone older). I suffer from "ageism" a look because I look a lot younger than my age....not that I am complaining.

So far I've had nothing but great experiences from LV and other high end stores concerning customer service. They know me pretty well and always greet me when I come into the store and have me take a look at what is new or what would interest me. I work with a couple and besides the whole misinformation ordeal w/ the Damier Speedy, it's been good. Also, Gucci has been wonderful too! I know one other poster said they are notoriously snotty but each one the last time I went in there (couple weeks ago) was falling on me hand and foot. It was nice but they were slow at that time. I don't remember saying "Hi" to so many people in such a closed area.

I wanted to add that LV Beverly Hills has very friendly SA's; but, their security is funny. :weird:

When I was a mgr at a trendy retail chain a mgr from Abercrombie told me that their training program instructed SA's to act aloof and uninterested - I wonder if there are similar messages given to SA's at some high-end boutiques?

^^^ for Abercrombie it was an "image" thing. They wanted to portray an aloof, detached, image because that is who they envisioned their target customer to be. Their SA's are told to act like the "popular" kids to relate to the popular kids who shop there.

Exactly! They're also really strict about what their SA's look like- I know if you want to work at Hollister you're not allowed to wear any visible make-up.

I find Abercrombie's SA's obnoxious ( excepting my friends who work there, they're darlings). :-P

you're welcome. ;) haha, that stoy is crazy. Once some lady asked if she could leave her baby with us, while she ran downstairs to buy something really quick. :-o We were shocked.

As long as I wear an LV bag, the SA's answer my beck and call with a smile. :) I usually visit my local LV boutique where I'm very good friends with one SA there and buy all my merchandise from her. She lets me play with whatever I want. :)

They're not allowed to wear visible makeup? I wonder why?

I haven't shopped at Hollister or Abercrombie in a long time. I got sick of the "Blondes Have More Fun!" shirts and Hollister's sizes that run way too small :suspiciou
