Scarves How to Wear a 90cm Carre/Silk Twill Casually?

Thank you for starting this thread! I've always been a scarf wearer and in the past few years very much enjoying my H adventures. I really don't do anything at all clever with my scarves - just a simple knot with tails hanging (or tucked in) or tied at the back for more warmth. I only have the 90s and one gavroche (this is so wonderful!). It's only this year I ventured into wearing the 90 as a backless top on an extremely hot and humid day on holiday

I had no idea so many were in the same boat for early morning preparation. Happily my bathroom is OK for make-up, although if I'm pushed for luck I grab my Ellis Faar canister and do it on the train (very exciting). I totally recommend EF for foolproof makeup application BTW and their 'holder' is spillage proof. http://www.ellisfaas.com/collection/holders/holder/h101

I'm 'all over the shop' at tPF, I like all different kinds of things I only have 1 (unpopular) YSL bag, the Marjorelle but I am (should that be, was) a huge YSL RTW fan, so just for you here is a H-scarf (Quintessence) with YSL mac (and Gucci skirt, shirt, jewellery and bag)

I love your casual every look!

Most of my scarves are in 90 because it is the perfect size for me. And I only wear them casually, with tshirts, cashmere sweaters, or plain white dress shirts. I usually just drape them around my shoulders. I add a small bolduc scarf ring in the middle for weight, and haven't experienced the scarf falling off at all. And the scarf ring in the back is hardly visible.

Love all these and am very inspired!

Thank you for starting this thread, MYH, and so sorry I just now came across it. I am the queen of the casual tie! I look like an old lady if I'm too pulled-together and I can't for the life of me achieve a proper knot anyway.:lol::lol: I also get dressed in the dark and am always in a rush.

Until recently all I had was 90s, so I quickly became comfortable with the format.
Here's my grande tenue, one of the most traditional scarves and full of "sophisticated" gold, wrapped in a cheap chili pepper necklace.

Here is grands fonds, casually tied with a t-shirt from Gap.

Here is Ex Libris en Kimonos (sistahs!) with a top from Gap.

Sorry about forgetting to resize that last pic.
Anyway, I agree with you that black, gold, red, etc. are more sophisticated and I have a hard time loosening up the feel of those. Also when I wear a close neck wrap (around once and secure the ends in a slide) I feel very business-like. So maybe it's a combination of color and style of tie/knot. Also the rest of my outfit, which is usually Gap and Tom's shoes!

Agreed-- both with the fact that sophieg looks amazing, and with the recommended strategy. I was just saying to a scarfie friend the other night that what made me fall back in love with my 90s was employing a strategy of "wad and throw." Seriously, I can't even be bothered folding on the bias anymore, and why would I, when a contrast hem shows more beautifully peeking out all over the place instead of just at the ends? Just toss those gorgeous scarves around your neck and take inspiration from the way in which they want to fall that day. Adjust a little, knot, and go.
Totally agree! I hate to hide a contrast hem.

and some more that are a bit more 'specialist' shots proving scarf rings don't have to mean smart and polished

The Clic Clac en Pois is only a 70, but is just as easy with a 90

This entire collection of photos continues to amaze the eyes PT. Can't wait to see what's in store for the zebra silks:smile:

Some terrific styling lesboitesorange!

i've been enjoying this thread - i only ever wear my scarves casually as my life almost never involves formality. I usually do either a bow (fold on the bias, tie in front with a bow) or the wrap-twice-and-tie, either with a scarf clip or without. (you might find scarf clips or slides in wood help to make your scarves look more casual - i love the ones mai tai sells on her website but similar others exist). I also agree that that are easier to tie casually once washed, they are softer and more lovable.

I've attached a silly photo of me in my l'arbre de vie and a crocheted boba fett hat (he is a star wars character) to show that i feel hermes scarves go with anything!
yessss!

Kimonos is fabulous and so versatile Moma.

I think the sling cowboy is the way to go. I am reposting a pic of The Bachelorette wearing her H. She's 28 and this was filmed in CA so should work for this thread?
I love this tie (I call it the bib) and use it constantly. But, MYH, I think there are definitely scarves that in themselves are more formal. For me, L'art d'écrire (mine is white and navy, already a formal color combo, IMO) and L'instruction du roi (all those scrolls and ironwork) cannot be worn as bibs.

I'm actually wearing a t-shirt with my scarf today. I buy pretty much all my tees from Everlane, but I have a few from Uniqlo, and Anthropologie (before their quality took a nosedive). I think it's a matter of what knot you do - I tend to do a variation on the cowboy knot, or sometimes I do the classic bias knot but I flip the tail behind my neck so you just have the loop of fabric in the front. This works best with a casual jacket on top. That's the knot I did in my first pic with Laboratoire du Temps. I made the classic knot work with Au Coeur de la Vie because it's a bright design and I paired it with the utility jacket. The other 2 pics are a cowboy knot, which is also what I'm wearing today...

I have a harder time making the look work with the classic, horse-y designs, but you have a lot of cool designs in your collection that should work. I bet your De la Mer au Ciel in a cowboy know with a white tee is dynamite - try it! ExLibris en Kimonos too - you have more fun designs than you think!

I pulled a few pics from the archive, when I was in Venice in May. I hope they're helpful
Sophie, I like your style so much (and have enjoyed your pix elsewhere on tPF). Great and inspiring examples!
