I normally don't post much but I think MYH was just expressing her opinion and no opinion deserves to be told "stupid" :hbeat:

MYH and I have been teasing each other for a while on various silk-related threads. I added smileys to show this was teasing, and not a serious remark, and I know she took it that way (see her response below).

I apologize to anyone who didn't read it like that, it wasn't my intention to hurt anyone's feelings in any way

Melora - you made me laugh out loud with this post.

MYH,
From my experience, I feel like most of us have trouble "adapting" or incorporating H scarves with our normal outfits because we often think of H scarves as a brand new genre of clothing. It's most likely because we were taught by our SAs how to knot in certain ways, or we follow the way MaiTai blogs showcase scarf knots. The ways MaiTai wears her scarves are often elegant, but for me, it's a bit too sophisticated, too well-done. As you try to perfect your knots, you may forget that at the end of the day, H scarf is just another scarf. I don't know about you, but I don't have 5 minutes in the morning to perfect my bias folds nor to even slide in a chaine d'ancre ring and do fancy things. I dash out of the door as soon as I can and I often wear scarves without a ring, like any other woman I see on the streets.

Try looking at the photos of you from pre-H era, how did you wear your scarves back then? Was that a carefree stole draping on your shoulder? Was that an infinity scarf? I would try to mimic the way you used to tie your non-H scarves with H scarves. Don't learn new ways to wear, just try to wear it how you used to, and then be creative with variations each time.

One tip is that I find that I look more matronly when I knot in bias and show the two scarf tails. Perhaps because I'm a petite girl and I have a short torso. I switched to wearing in half-bow knot, infinity knot, regular ascot, etc. Anything so that the two tails of the scarf don't reach my belt.

Another thing I just can't stress enough: you do NOT have to fold a scarf in perfectly symmetrical bias folds. Fold it off center or whatever you can just by folding it on your upper leg when you stand up on the other leg. It gets easier and you will get the scarf wearing and scarf fixing habit.
And yes, it's true, soft scarves are often my go-to scarves, while brand new ones get pickled and stared at and then back to the orange box.

Bottomline:
- I don't use scarf rings often
- My knots don't have to be symmetrical
- I don't show two long tails of the scarf in front of me. They often get tied in the back of my head.
- Do fancy knots only when you have time. Really. Great scarves tie themselves, you don't have to work it.

P/S the above points are regarding 90cm only. I still show the two tails with GM shawls.

I agree with your point on the tails my dear Silk Sister, but I am quite tall and Grande, and they still don't work on me. A 90 tail, no. A GM tail, yes. XO

Chestnutty - thanks for your response! I consider you one of the scarf queens on this forum and I think your suggestions are spot on! I too started to notice that tails in front of me "aged" me quite a bit. It's probably different for different people and different looks (hairstyle, jewelry, clothing), but that was definitely the case for me too.

I normally don't post much but I think MYH was just expressing her opinion and no opinion deserves to be told "stupid" :hbeat:

I'm glad all us Silky Sisters are laughing. Melora, your "stupid" made me burst out laughing since I know you didn't mean to be rude.

MYH, your look is always Fabulous my dear. You are having difficult with the texture contrast no doubt, but linen pants, a nice T, or one from Gap, and a silk 90 is the BEST to me. :hugs:

Sparklelisab - yes, I think it's the contrast. Linen and t-shirt material read casual to me, but then I introduce a gorgeous silky scarf and the whole ensemble goes haywire in my eyes. I think going with a different knot will help drastically as many of suggested here.

Zodiac, Chestnutty, and any others - Melora and I have been PMing in the background and have a friendly banter and friendship with each other. Rest assured that no offense was taken on my side. Thanks for sticking up for me though!

Great examples.

I just chuck them on

Agreed-- both with the fact that sophieg looks amazing, and with the recommended strategy. I was just saying to a scarfie friend the other night that what made me fall back in love with my 90s was employing a strategy of "wad and throw." Seriously, I can't even be bothered folding on the bias anymore, and why would I, when a contrast hem shows more beautifully peeking out all over the place instead of just at the ends? Just toss those gorgeous scarves around your neck and take inspiration from the way in which they want to fall that day. Adjust a little, knot, and go. :)

:blushing::smooch:thank you both!

I decided to try a knot that's a hybrid of Azalie and Crochetbella's suggestions. I twisted the scarf in the bias fold and then tied a knot. Interestingly, I got a round knot instead of a triangle one! I kind of like it. Then I proceeded with Azalie's short necklace look. Yay! A new way to wear my 90cms. Let's keep the suggestions coming!

Beautiful! I tried to get a ball like you, but it didn't work, I always end up with a triangle ;)
Do you still think this scarf is a "dressy" one? :p

MYH, thank you for starting this thread. :D I love 'collecting' H scarves because they're just so beautiful but don't know quite what to do with them. I've downloaded the H knot app and browsed the Mai Tai blog and YouTube--still not much progress. I usually just wear my scarf under my coat but not with my outfits (business or casual). Hope to see more mod pics and suggestions for inspirations. I've promised myself not to buy any more 90 silks until I use each of the ones I currently own at least once (2 more to go).

Hello there MYH, what an interesting thread you have started. When I first started buying H silks I never even wore scarves. On my first scarf buying trip, I was totally flummoxed as to what design, color or look I wanted to achieve with this artistic silk square. It took me forever to decide on a design, and I was so intimidated by the H boutique, I did not even think of returning or exchanging for another design. I still have that lovely pink silk which I plan on sharing on SOTD thread tomorrow.

My wardrobe and work needs have evolved from relaxed business attire to now decidedly casual style. I do meet with clients occasionally, or attend events and interviews so scarves are useful and fun for me as an accessory rather than any jewelry. 90 percent of my wardrobe are in minimal shapes, basic colors and pieces, so I find they work great with a colorful piece of silk. I almost always wear a denim jacket on the weekends, and I find the 90 carres are just fine with jeans and tee. I agree with chestnut. I simply knot and rarely use a scarf ring as I feel the look is too matronly or dated. I love to throw on a silk and sometimes don't do much more than tie one knot asymmetrically or wrap it around the neck a couple of times with a boat necked sweater in the fall. I rarely show both tails of a silk in front, I prefer one tail at the side or back and one in front. And I love wearing silk with a distressed leather jacket on occasion!

More to come, and how lovely of you to start this new thread! Look forward to seeing and posting some fun casual styles!

I love this look on you, MYH! As you demonstrate, the "necklace" can be worn long or short. Beautiful choice of scarf, too.

And Chestnutty, brilliant observations. Even if one secretly takes half an hour to achieve a "wad and throw" effect, one wants no give-away clues that one was thinking about the process. So no scarf rings for me on T shirt days.

LOL, I just saw this :hugs:

As you know I often have to get up so early as to get dressed in the dark and that certainly makes things look more casual :p

That's funny, I love that- getting dressed in the dark :)! For a short time, I did my makeup really early too, either in the bathroom or car in the garage, without great lighting, and one day, someone told me my blush was a bit too much, and OMG, yes, she was so right. So then I made sure not to put on my makeup until I arrived to work :)

Btw- papertiger, good seeing you here on the H forum, I remember a few years back, we were both on the YSL forum often as well :) if you could provide a link to how you wear your scarves, I'd really appreciate it.

Also, I tried to wear my 90cm as the pirate look (per Hermes photos I saw and loved) on my head a couple times, and it kept sliding off. Any suggestions, without having to using bobby pins? Thanks :)

Well I think that looks great MYH!

I know others say leave off the scarf rings for casual and no points down the front but with a Mors (or actually most of SRs) you can bias fold (or not) put around your neck but outside your jumper/shirt and very simply pull both points through (but not too far up). With the Mors this creates two parallel lines, keeps the points very long and looks very cool. The chaine d'ancre will bring the scarf closer together but it will still work. Basically this is the scarf equivalent to the undone jacket (over a shirt and under a jacket it looks great too) and will be a bonus for scarves that you like to see more of the middle/whole design.

I had no idea so many were in the same boat for early morning preparation. Happily my bathroom is OK for make-up, although if I'm pushed for luck I grab my Ellis Faar canister and do it on the train (very exciting). I totally recommend EF for foolproof makeup application BTW and their 'holder' is spillage proof. http://www.ellisfaas.com/collection/holders/holder/h101

I'm 'all over the shop' at tPF, I like all different kinds of things I only have 1 (unpopular) YSL bag, the Marjorelle but I am (should that be, was) a huge YSL RTW fan, so just for you here is a H-scarf (Quintessence) with YSL mac (and Gucci skirt, shirt, jewellery and bag)

Here are some more, but half-way between 'chuck on' and 'there was a mirror/reflective glass involved'. C'estLF is a 70, just think how long and 'flowy' it would be with a 90. Points to the front, no problem

and some more that are a bit more 'specialist' shots proving scarf rings don't have to mean smart and polished

The Clic Clac en Pois is only a 70, but is just as easy with a 90

Most of my scarves are in 90 because it is the perfect size for me. And I only wear them casually, with tshirts, cashmere sweaters, or plain white dress shirts. I usually just drape them around my shoulders. I add a small bolduc scarf ring in the middle for weight, and haven't experienced the scarf falling off at all. And the scarf ring in the back is hardly visible.
