I want to thank everybody SO SO much for contributing to this thread. DH and I headed over to Melrose Place for some lunch and light afternoon shopping yesterday. So my first thought was uh oh! What to wear??? I want to look elegantly casual but not look like I tried to "dress up" to go shopping there. So I employed my trusty circle twist knot I learned from Azalie and Crochetbella. Thanks gals!I didn't get a picture because we were rushing out the door but I recreated the accessories. I wore a light gray t shirt with dark gray linen pants.

MYH, I think that works perfectly!! It is all beautiful together and separately with just a T-shirt and jeans. Yeah!!!! Would you be willing to be my stylist? Just saying as I need a new one and we live in the same area.......:D

And quellefromage- so funny, I have recently seen some Etro scarves and contemplated getting one, I think you have motivated me to do it, since you said that they are softer.

Not to veer way off-topic, but these scarves are my go-to for adding elegance/finishing touch to the simplest outfits. I have small stole-shapes all the way up to 150 cm+ giants. They tend to be matte (so feel informal), the patterns are unobtrusive enough to function more neutrally although the colors can be brilliant, and they are usually in between a twill and a mousseline texture/weight. In addition, I humbly confess, Etro has many outlets (this is the key) and in an outlet sale I have been known to score 7-8 scarves for the price of an H mousseline.
Now, somewhat back to topic, these are not rolled-hem handmade works of art like H scarves - they are just very lovely and very versatile. I suppose what I would say is they feel Italian bohemian versus H's French cosmopolitan.

what an awesome thread! thank you so much for starting it. I am a big fan of the cowboy tie slung over a sweater. i also like wearing my silks as halter tops. here is an old one with two carres en carres together.

Papertiger - do you have a mors ring? Can you show some pics to demonstrate your instructions above? I must be slow today because I'm not following. I also have a mors ring so know what it looks like but can't imagine what you're describing. :ty:

Trawling through the archives, I found a better symmetrical example and with a single carre

I hope lanit doesn't mind me re-posting this here but the pic epitomises chic casual simplicity

Papertiger- thanks for the photos and cosmetics link. I had never heard of the line, but will have to get me a couple items to try :)

Also, yes, this look is great. I am not the biggest fan of scarf rings, but love this one, as it is chic but casual.

stylemechanel - how sweet of you to say but you would not want me to be your stylist. I only shop from a few brands really and generally have no idea what I'm doing!

You look smokin doloresmia. Definitely working the silks to your advantage.

Aw...Papertiger. I get it now. Thank you for finding this pic and posting it. I will give it a try today. I would love to use my mors ring rather than just letting it sit in the closet.

Chestnutty - thanks for your response! I consider you one of the scarf queens on this forum and I think your suggestions are spot on! I too started to notice that tails in front of me "aged" me quite a bit. It's probably different for different people and different looks (hairstyle, jewelry, clothing), but that was definitely the case for me too.
Sorry I missed this post yesterday. I'm quite flattered to read that you consider me like that. Probably will be walking on air the entire day,. But no, I'm no way near best knot experts out there like Tango or MaiTai. Just a frequent scarf wearer, and somehow eventually scarf wearing habit got incorporated into my styling. Where I live, at this time of the year, I see many many young women walking around with their scarf fabulously styled, always such eye candies to see and I learn a lot.
 like the fabulous Ladybaga or even symmetrically like me in this (accept I'm wearing double). The Mors shouldn't move much, they just magically stay
Papertiger - It seemed that I totally misunderstood your post to another style. My bad :blushing:.

Not at all :hugs:

Ladybaga just wears hers to show off the scarf to maximum effect, but the same principle. This is a fantastic way for anyone who has a scarf with the best bit of the design in the centre.

MYH, I am so happy you started this thread as I am among those who claim to have forsworn the 90 cm format, only to keep succumbing to its charms. As in, "Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in", LOL!

I was smitten by Ladybaga's simple use of her Mors ring (yeah, I have one of those too) but hadn't tried it until papertiger said that you could just slip a bias-folded twill thru the rings and the thing would just hang there. 'Uh huh' said the skeptic, but lo and behold, it works. Well not quite 'behold', because the pic I took was of the Ladybaga variation.

I'm coming out of lurkdom to tell you that I think it works with my ratty Target t-shirt, and if I had on jeans instead of ratty sweatpants, I wouldn't hesitate to head out to the grocery store and not feel I was overdressed/matronly. This, despite the fact that at my local grocery store many people do in fact wear ratty sweatpants, and I mean 'ratty', not lulumon ;).......but that's for another thread :p

And now I want a mors ring... ;)

Thank you for starting this thread. I haven't commented because I suffer from the same problem. I love my 90's but can really only wear them to work. Over the summer, I wore some non H scarves with my simple sun dresses and loved the way they added to the outfit.
Because of that, I contemplated purchasing a mousse but have not pulled the trigger because I couldn't settle on a design or color way.

Thank you QuelleFrommage for the Etro suggestion. There are so many gorgeous scarves on the website - what size do you recommend? I know we're almost the same height so I'm wondering which is the best size for casual wear.

Back to topic - I'm going to try some of the suggestions on this thread. I always tie my scarves the same way which is why they appear so formal - I definitely need to switch it up a bit. I will be following this thread closely to see what I can do with my gorgeous scarves that I keep buying but are collecting dust!!

Hi jyyanks, I will PM you with more deets so as not to go way off topic, but I have several sizes. I would have to measure as there seems to be much more variation than with H. Bottega Veneta has some lovely options too.
