I know it can be confusing with different leathers called similar names, but this thread is for Barenia Faubourg only.

For the original (smooth) Barenia please post here:

Today we (me and my FB) got rained on. Not a torrential downpour but not a drizzle either. We were in the rain for a good 10-15 minutes without an umbrella. Initially, you could see spots and splotches where the leather got wet but about an hour later, it completely dried and I am happy to report no lasting marks or stains as a result of the rain.

I don’t think FB is going to be as water resistant as traditional Barenia but it is water resistant.

That is so good to hear, and is making me relax about mine.

I’m not a leather expert but here’s an additional observation: Because FB has a grainy texture similar to togo and clemence, the key is to avoid rubbing the surface area if it gets wet. The leather will dry on its own but rubbing the surface too hard with a cloth (or even your fingertips) to help it dry faster will actually result in a more noticeable “blemish” because you run the risk of “scuffing” the surface grains. (Versus traditional Barenia which has a smooth finish like box calf.)

Contrary to popular belief, the smooth finish actually makes traditional barenia and box calf very water repellant unlike epsom and other embossed leathers that will bubble up after being exposed to excess moisture. The “new” FB has a grainy surface which helps disguise scratches that would be more visible on smooth leather surfaces and is a hybrid of sorts, incorporating the water resistant nature of smooth Barenia with the scratch resistance of grained leathers.

By the way, my FB still smells heavenly .... Lol!

Just sending a shout out of gratitude to those always contributing to this thread! It is greatly appreciated. Sorry I haven't contributed yet. I'm so bad at taking in action pics in general. Haven't used my bag a ton yet. I'll try to take a shot and share next time I pull it out.
