Good morning. Putting this here for anyone who sells on ebay. Previously, when an item sold on ebay was altered by the buyer (chemicals used, changed in some way) it was not eligible for return and the seller was not required to accept that return. Guess what!? Not anymore!! A buyer purchased something from me, used three different chemical products on it as she detailed to me in an email, and ebay still forced me to accept the return. I haven't received the item but, boy, I can't wait!! I've been told to contact ebay once I receive the item. I'm sure they'll offer thoughts and prayers. Good luck, sellers!!
That’s terrible, and wrong!

EBay treats sellers SO badly. I’ve been waiting for some kind of correction to this and a rebalancing of the buyer/seller ‘power’ relationship but they just keep on going in the wrong direction for sellers and allowing/indulging/ultimately encouraging bad buyer behaviour.

Wrong, wrong, wrong 😡

See this is the crap that turns me off as a small occasional seller.... I have decided to minimize my closet and have a large amount of things to post. I just got through taking all the pictures, etc. and decided to also check the luxury resellers like FP, Rebag and Yoogies. Between fees and mental anguish, I might just go the buy out route. Only large sellers/businesses on eBay can afford to write off this nonsense. I don't mind the risk with household or less expensive items but high end items, getting more and more afraid.

That's not right!

I had seen comments about this on ebay message boards. I couldn't believe it, so I called multiple times. I was told the exact same thing by every person I spoke to. Everyone was on the same script. I requested to speak with a returns specialist, which they all claimed to be. We will see what happens. I will update as this progresses. It's not at all right, and a ridiculous position to put sellers in.

That’s terrible of eBay to allow that ! This person should not be able to return it. I read on that you can deduct up to 50% of the buyers refund though.

I believe that is only if you are a top rated seller and allow returns.

Sorry about all of the quotes but I thought that anyone who took the time to react and respond to my initial post would appreciate seeing the outcome. Finally, this was resolved this morning. The bag arrived back to me last week. The final blow was that the end of the zipper had been pulled out from the rivet that attaches it to the bag. So the buyer's use of cleaner on the zipper resulted in her pulling the end free. I called ebay multiple times, always to make sure that I got the same info from multiple agents, and everyone told me not to refund, not to engage with the buyer and to wait until Monday for the case to be resolved by ebay. Tick-tock and nothing happened on Monday. I called this morning, 8am EST when customer service opened, and got on the phone with an agent who resolved the case in my favor. I do not have to refund the buyer but she will be refunded by ebay. Seriously, they allow the return, make me take the return, and then they have to pay for it. I know, I know...these fees eventually get passed along to all people using ebay, but really? This could have been handled better. Sellers--stick to your guns. Occasionally we win. Sort of.

You can buy insurance for Ground Advantage. There is USPS insurance and ebay also offers another company's insurance. I've never used it.

Generally I don't use signature required unless it is required by ebay rules, which in this case is anything over $750. The reason I don't like it is that sometimes the post office will deliver without getting the signature. In that case, even if tracking shows it was delivered, the buyer can claim they didn't receive it and win. I don't think that would be a problem with the authentication center.

Recently I had a package lost by USPS. I hadn't bought insurance. They paid the $100 included insurance quickly. Weeks later, the buyer got the package for free, after I had already refunded in full.
Hi different issue but remembered your response whatever and led me back to you.... I sold an item via eBay 325 dollars. I was about to use sign confirmation but remembered your response above. SO, in my current case if I ship priority mail without sign confirmation to a buyer and the item shows delivered but the person says they didn't receive it, eBay will just accept the tracking info as proof? Using the sign. confirmation could be a risk seeing as USPS might not do their job and then I could be held liable? What say you? Many thanks for the support!!

Yes. But if the package is lost and therefore not scanned on delivery, you will be liable. You could buy extra insurance if you want. It is a very rare occurrence that a package gets lost.

I think this is a case of the squeaky wheel getting the grease. If you complain loud enough, usually they will cave.

Hi all! Have never posted on PF but a lurker and still getting used to the format, so please forgive me if this is a dumb question. I found a preloved Kelly on eBay for a decent price. It would need a spa trip, and the seller provided several helpful photos and a video tour. She also provided the Bababebi authentication from 2022. However, the name on the authentication is different from the seller. Of course that could be from when she purchased the bag from a different seller. Everything else seems to match up though (even examining the stitching around the stamp, which is a 1990 T circle). Anyone have a gut reaction to that?

What matters here is if the seller is selling an authentic Hermes bag that is in their possession. Ebay wise, I'd start by questioning the seller about your concern as to why the name differs. If the explanation makes sense, that's good. If you have no answer, or a puzzling one, draw your own conclusion.

Then you might ask Bababebi to view this listing and confirm that this authentication was indeed authentically by her. You may be surprised to know that authentications themselves are subject to trickery (such as being fake).

Hopefully you'll have good results!

If a buyer leaves positive feedback with a negative untrue comment and you reply to the feedback can the buyer reply? In 20 years my feedback is 100% positive so this is strange to me. I want to comment back but I'm not sure it's worth it. Thanks!

I don’t sell on eBay, but I’m tagging two of our experts. I seem to recall some rule that someone cannot leave positive feedback with a negative comment. If so, you might be best off just contacting Ebay directly to have the comment removed. Hopefully our experts will chime in with the details.

Yes, I was almost going to respond with that as I know that was the case for sellers, since sellers can only leave positives. I'm not sure it applies to buyers. The buyer is doing a seller a favor by not leaving a negative. It is hard to advise whether to respond without knowing exactly what the comment was and if it could be addressed in a way to make the buyer happier. The other reason to respond is to communicate to others who are checking your feedback how you deal with issues. In most cases, I would respond to the feedback.

The buyer said that she decided to not take the bag because the price was too high (it wasn't) and that the bag was damaged according to the EBAY authenticators. Not true, I always take excellent pictures but forgot one corner of the bag. Ebay contacted me saying the little scuff was not in my pictures so they were going to let the buyer decide if she still wanted the bag. Ebay then returned the bag and the scuff came right off with a leather wipe. I re-listed for a higher price and it sold again and was authenticated without issues and sent to another buyer.
