eBay, etc. General Question/Answer Thread

Thanks!

First she asked me to delay shipping until 8 July, then amended it to 15 July, taking Authentication into account. Buyer is super excited to get the bag and purchased in the middle of the night due to FOMO making her sleepless. She seems very nice and I’d like to accommodate her as best I can but it’s somewhere between tricky and impossible.

I’m actually in Australia and authentication and onward shipping is lightning fast here. Also there no longer seems to be any phone communication available with eBay CS in Australia - not good
Ah sorry to hear that! I will wait for the eBay experts to chime in, but maybe the best solution is to send her a message that you unfortunately need to cancel her order for now so that you stay in compliance with your stated shipping and handling times, and that she is welcome to buy it again if it is still available on the 15th (and that you are hoping it is, etc). I would feel sad to disappoint her, but you don’t want to get into trouble for not shipping within a certain time frame.

Thanks for your helpful suggestions!

I encouraged buyer to cancel and buy again with a new shipping time of 7 or 10 business days, but eventually she decided that shipping should go ahead with the original time frame after all and to let delivery arrangements stand.

I hope she doesn’t change her mind again, but I wouldn’t be surprised

That’s great news. Fingers crossed!

I rarely sell items under $1,000 so I'm comfortable shipping to authenticators before receiving my payment from Ebay. Today I sold an item that was $300.00 and they are holding my payment until after delivery. Is that how it is for everyone now? That is worrisome because If the buyer is a scammer I would be out $$ and my item.

It's common for newer sellers or if you are selling in a new category. It's not for everyone.

Hi everyone,
Seeking for some advices. I am thinking of purchasing a pre-loved Capucines BB on eBay and found one in pristine condition at a very good price (around 2K). The only concern I have is that unlike my previous experience of buying pre-loved bags on eBay, this seller appears to be extra enthusiastic and communicative. He reached out to me directly on eBay, messaging multiple times trying to sell the bag, and after a few negotiations, he is now willing to sell it at the price I originally asked for which much lower than the listed price. The bag will be sent to eBay for authentication, the seller has around 800 5* reviews selling mostly pre-loved LV goods. Just the extra communication and many follow up kinds of worrying me a little or maybe I am just being too suspicious. What do you think? Thank you for your help and advice.

If this is a seller you have shopping confidence in, based on a solid record of feedback for successful authentic sales, then give him the benefit of the doubt about communications. Your decision has to be on the basis of the bag being as described, and that he's credible. Everything else is less important. Plus, you are protected by the authentications process and if you pay by credit card.

Don't overthink an eager seller! A seller isn't out to do you favors; they're meeting their goals.

Thank you so much for your advice. Well said! I have not purchased from this seller in the past and even more so his eagerness surprised me even when I didn’t reply. But you are correct in which I do have some layers of protection between using Paypal and eBay authentication. I think just by reading so many scam stories out there lately, it makes me a little vigilant especially 2K for a pristine condition full set Capucines BB, is that price too good to be true? Thanks again!

If you did research on resale pricing for the bag and you conclude that the price is fishy, this means you don't in fact have confidence in the seller. You could post the listing in Authenticate This LV on the forum, provided it has all the required photos. Aside from this you are taking a gamble (but with some safety net), and that's up to your level of toleration.

Hi- It has been a while since I have sold on eBay and am trying to list a bag which has a price point necessitating shipment to Ebay's authentication center. In the past, I have always seen and used the feature of shipping USPS and with signature required. When I went to input the shipping details I can select USPS but there is no option for the signature option. Any guesses why? I tried both priority and ground advantage with USPS within the listing. Thanks.

Hmm, I don't remember that being an option when listing. I believe you select it when you purchase the label after the sale.
