Documenting Chanel CC markings through time

I paid HKD33000 for the bag, basically slightly less than the retail price lolz I regret it now and brandoff won't accept any returns unless I can prove the bag is not real..they said they will pay me 70% of the price if I trade in the bag :'( this is such an impulsive purchase and I learnt a lesson that I should be patient and buy it in the boutique😔😔

I am concerned about the serial number for it being a classic because all the ones I've seen lately, including mine, have been 19 series. The seasonal bags have been 20 and 21. Today another TPFer posted her new bag and she is Europe and her is a 19 series also.
A Chanel nightmare turned into a Chanel dream

So would you say that a classic bag with serial numbers showing it's from 2008-2009 (129xxxxx) should always be gold plated with the hallmark showing? Just curious cuz I found one listing and the hardware has no hallmark. What do you ladies think?

The end of 2009 may be not. What color is the interior? During the time the hardware changed the lining changed also. Agnesman1996 has a bag that looks like pre 2009 with a 20 s/n. :nogood: I hope it is a bag unique to HK.

Thanks for responding :)
It's a white caviar with gold hardware and the interior is white as well. I just found it odd that there were no markings on CC hardware. But I could be wrong....

That is just after the time it changed. 129xxxxx is around Pre-Fall / Act 1 2009, it changed in springtime, so it is absolutely possible. But as always have anything bought outside of Chanel/Department stores checked out.

Hello, I just wanted to know if any one know what the purpose of this gold hardware button inside the bag is? :) It looks odd that it is there, since you can't close it or anything?! I'm now scared it might not be authentic, even though I was told that it is authentic, but almost a 25 years old bag. Thanks ladies :)

I saw your question in the atc thread. It's to secure the removable thin wallet that came w the bag

I bring the bag to milan station and a few second hand stores for checking its authenticity, it is authentic.

My DH gets a bit mad about my impulsive purchase and says i need to bring him along next time when i'm buying bags so he can stop me lolz

I remember your post on ATC and my response.

Somehow a 20 mil series sticker found its way onto what should be a 8 to 10 series bag. It's not just the CC turn lock or the lining, but the shape of the diamonds, the stitching, the quilting, the caviar.

While the bag itself may be authentic it's probably more authentic if you took the sticker off. Because while items missing parts can be still considered authentic, an authentic item that has something that doesn't belong is in gray territory. The argument you would make is that the Chanel serial numbers also serve as date codes in that they are catalogued and documented as the time and order of manufacture. Having a serial that does not belong is fraudulent. Fraud and counterfeit are two entirely different things. Fraud can be selling an authentic bag but putting a higher price tag on it by switching tags. That's still fraud and so would this be (or maybe misrepresentation). I am not saying brandoff is the fraudster as fraud would also require intent. It would be whoever put it there. Brandoff may not know, but as a vendor they have an obligation to make things right even if they did not know in the beginning. to simply state the item is authentic is not sufficient if the item is misrepresented.

You really need to get your money back. This is unacceptable because the bag is misrepresented. Ask to speak with their in house authenticator and explain to them the problem. It may not be their fault but it's still their responsibility to fix this.

Thank you for your reply :) I have already left HK and back in aus so am not able to deal with Brandoff in person..a little update is that i sold the bag to a second hand store in HK before I leave, which i did lose a bit of money for selling it..definitely learnt a lesson this time: only buy in a chanel boutique!!

P.S. i just bought a classic WOC from the boutique and loving it to death hehe

Sorry the experience left a bad taste in your mouth. Try to rethink the lesson as "get authenticated (here or elsewhere) prior to purchase!" We would have caught it as I commented when you posted. And if time is of the essence, only buy from sellers with a good return policy. There are many good reputable sellers out there - I still believe strongly in preowned buys; they are the best out there (although I am just as guilty buying my seasonal bags from the boutique when I fear I will lose out). For classics, I will search to death for one that's gold plated vs buy from store. Sometimes I will pay close to retail but still better than the shoddy stuff they make today

Hi Roku, in regards to your comment "shoddy stuff they make today", do you recommend buying Chanel bags that were made before a certain year? Not sure when the quality started going downhill...
