Hey  My daypack arrived looking a bit confused. The bottom is slightly lighter then the rest of the bag. I wondered if anyone has experienced similar at all? I've attached photos. I'm going to put her up for sale and don't know how to describe this feature. Any tips would be amazinggg680BD528-ABCC-4A71-8875-92975180EE92.jpeg4857BD21-68D5-45EE-B160-0C11CFE390DD.jpeg

Have you conditioned the bag yet? Conditioning often helps to
even out the color.

It's not technically two tone. Back when this was made, they didn't use computers to make sure the color came out the same on every piece of leather. Different pieces accepted the dye differently. That is why it looks two tone. It's common on vintage bags.

You know I've done this so much in the past and I'm left with bags I feel guilty to resell. One bag I'm sending it to another coach collector for free because I wouldn't take money for it. I'm glad you're standing your ground. She is gaslighting you! I hate when some say "vintage condition" and it looks like a shambles. What I really don't get is, why would it smell of mothballs if she's not had it long enough to know whether it's had something put on it? Good luck with PayPal. If not, credit company and raise a claim. Not only do they go for far too much money to arrive looking like crap, it's also the principle. Is this eBay? I've found buying on the US eBay to be a completely different experience to the UK market. You ask questions, they cancel the order in the US or get really defensive.
Which site did you buy it on? With a paypal dispute, shipping isn't covered. Usually it is better to open a dispute on the selling site.

Don't open another dispute while you have an active one. You can't have a dispute open with more than one company at a time. If you open one with your credit card, the paypal one will be closed.

It was on Carousell. We talked through the app but the transaction was all done on PayPal so that’s my only means of recourse.

The seller might be known to some of you, as she is friends with other Coachies (apparently). Her seller name is Beingbecks.

She seems to think Im trying to keep this disaster of a bag for free & get a full refund… no, I want a full refund & I want her to cover the shipping to send the bag back to her. I’ve already communicated this with her.

I really don’t know what else I can do, I presented clear evidence… the seller seems to have her head in the sand about it & refuses to acknowledge it.

I don’t believe for a second that she didn’t know it was polished. After I paid, she said “I’ll make sure to polish the Winnie first before I ship her off”… I told her not to, that I collected these bags & clean them up… yikes, that should’ve been the most BLATANT red flag to me looking back now. I was worried she would try to apply something before shipping, little did I know something had already been applied for who knows how long that’s literally eating away at the bag!

I completely get it. I ended up with a painted bag one time. I'd only spent like 40 bucks so I didn't push back on the seller even though it was not disclosed. But to be honest, once I really realized that I have no idea what I am going to get by buying from resellers, it made me stop in my tracks. No more do I consider a bag over $60 (not that I ever did), which is about my threshold for money lost if a bag shows up in bad condition. So there goes buying any rare or desireable bag. Since prices are so high now, its just put a stop to me collecting altogether.

I completely agree with you. My threshold shouldn’t have been so high but compared to what Winnies go for these days, I thought it was a good price. I feel like an idiot:facepalm:

Hi all! New to this forum and so glad I found it! I purchased a bag at Goodwill and the ladies over on the authentication page said it was a Coach bag from the late 70’s or early 80’s. I’ve been skimming through the posts here on this forum and I notice a lot of people say they wash their bags. I’m just wondering if anyone can give me an idea on the process of cleaning my new bag up. It does not have to be perfect as it’s not in horrible shape but I’d like to make it look as nice as possible. And what does everyone use when they say they are washing and conditioning their bag? Thanks in advance and pictures attached

Thank you so much for this explanation  this really helps. I've screenshotted and favourite the picture. I didn't have a clue.

Hi Katev I have conditioned the bag with Renapur, but I find that once it's dried it goes back to this. I saw someone before advertised this as two tone. Has this ever been a thing?

Cute bag! Sometimes applying Black Rocks to finish the bag helps to even out the color somewhat.

I am very familiar with the "different colors with aging" phenomenon that @whateve mentioned. I once rehabbed the Soho Laced Flap bag 11879 at the link below. The Wayback picture shows all parts of the bag as the same color, but as it aged the strap and hangtag became a lighter shade than the body of the bag. I don't mind the variation, I think it's kind of nice, but it is different.

I think that your backpack is lovely and that it is likely to remain two-tone but it may also be very dehydrated and that may be emphasizing the differences in shading. I am not sure but that comes to my mind. I know that you've applied Renapur but it might need more. Did you apply a deep moisturizing conditioner like Leather CPR first?

If it were my bag and I wasn't quite happy with the rehab result, I would probably start over. I would give it a sink bath with Dawn suds, stuff it with towels to shape while drying, begin applying Leather CPR while it was still damp, and then continue to moisturize as it dried. After it was dry I would lightly apply Black Rocks and buff well with a horsehair brush. Just my opinion, it's a great bag!

But maybe since you are planning to sell the bag you shouldn't do all that work? Maybe just sell it as a rehab opportunity?

Thanks for this Katev  I dunked her, stuffed with towels and applied 2 layers of cpr while she was drying. I've applied another layer of cpr today. I think when that's absorbed I'll put a layer of renapur. I have two exactly the same but I prefer the Costa Rica one. I'm such a sucker for Costa Rica. Just love my Costa Rican bags. I've attached another photo. You're right. She needs more moisturiser.

Oh you're right, it is looking much better! And I know what you mean about Costa Rican Coach bags!

Some of the pictures are poor but this looks like a vintage red Madison Carlyle 4401, made in Italy, for $40 plus shipping listed on Facebook Marketplace:

I previously rehabbed a red Carlyle and it is one of my favorite bags:

Hello fellow vintage coach lovers! Haven’t been here in a while. I am proud to say, I have not bought a bag since November of last year. @Coachaddict4020, I’m sorry you are dealing with a bad sale. Hope it gets resolved in your favor.
That is incredible! Good work!! I'm happy when I can say, I have not bought one this week. After the issues of vintage bags only to be told they explained they're vintage condition when they arrive. I think I might have to do the same
