You did a beautiful job, @rayrob87! I particularly love those character lines on the flap!!!
Thank you! Ya I was curious about those lines actually. What exactly is happening there?
I've read they are actually fat lines original to the animal. Many of us LOVE and covet those lines! Just not on our own bodies!
I don't see any fat lines on any of my bags but I have quite a few scars/veins.
Ok that is actually pretty cool. I had no idea! I thought I had screwed up because I was like “where did this come from?!” I guess I brought them out with all the CPR. Thanks for the info!

There's another by-product of the tanning process that isn't at all attractive. It's called "spue" and it leaves ugly white circles on the bag. The spue disappears quickly if you warm them up with a hair dryer but they can come back later. The camel willis at the link below had bad spue but the hair dryer worked and then I gave it 2 baths and so far it hasn't come back - fingers crossed!

This bag also has fat lines on the back so there must have been problems with the leather tanning process.

That is incredible! You did a great job with that bag btw. I’ve learned something new today. That word is straight up gross though lol!

What is the problem with the shape? Is it wrinkled or creased or dented or just off-center or off-balance? Can you post pictures. Below are a few methods I've used to reshape difficult bags.

Sometimes steaming a bag helps me to reshape a bag; here's some information about steaming:

I used counterweights to stretch and shape this wrinkled Dinky:

I weighted, stuffed, counter-balanced and stretched this Legacy Straw Bag during drying to get it shaped properly:
It's stretched out and off. As you can see in these photographs of my burgundy one, both sides are bulging out too much but still dip in too early before the bottom.

I think at the time I stuffed all three ok (didn't overstuff) but then I like to dry the insides under the sun so I later removed the stuffing and opened them wide under the sun and I think that's what led to the bulging parts. But either way I can't get the walls to just stand straight! :confused1:

Hi all,

I'm new to Coach rehab, so please forgive me if this isn't the correct place to post, but I am hoping you can help!
I've just purchased a vintage Beckett bag on Etsy, and before shipping the seller sent me a pic of the inside pocket (attached). Is this white discoloration normal? Or could it be mold? I'd appreciate your feedback!

Thank you!!

I can't tell from that picture, but it could be something called "spue" which is a sometimes a by-product of the leather tanning process. Spue disappears if you warm the area with a hair dryer, but it can come back.

I'm on a pc and the picture is really small (I can't enlarge easily like on a phone.) I think that is just the normal inside of the pocket. Sometimes they are white like that rather than the regular color of the suede.

I stuff it and dry it with the pocket outside of the bag. Alternately, you could put something stiff inside the bag between the pocket and the side of the bag.

I dried the last one with the pocket out. It seems that after I put my stuff in it just goes right back after I carry it. I am having a similar issue with the top of my Tribeca Shopper, too. The waves are getting to me. I think I might dunk it again this weekend and see if I can improve it. It also has a spot or two I need to buff more, but I have buffed this bag SO much.

I've seen waves like that. I don't know how to get rid of them. The problem is between the layers of the bag that you can't get to.

I was thinking of maybe laying it flat and putting a book or something on it, inside the bag. I figured it has the cardboard type stuff in there. Maybe I should leave it alone before I create a bigger problem. It is definitely in better shape than it arrived in.

Good day everyone,

I recently received the Coach Manor handbag I won on eBay and was wondering if I should dunk her or not. I do like to dunk new-to-me handbags but I'm feeling really skittish about dunking this one. This bag is in excellent condition and is really clean on the inside. I searched through and read every post about the Manor bag in this thread and the consensus seems to be "If I could do it again, I wouldn't dunk this bag." What do you think? Does this bag need to be dunked or should I just surface clean and moisturize her and go on my merry way?IMG_1045.jpgIMG_1046.jpgIMG_1047.jpgIMG_1052.jpgIMG_1048.jpgIMG_1050.jpgIMG_1049.jpgIMG_1051.jpg

Thanks for all your help!

Nat

If you decide not to dunk, you can stuff the bag & gently go over it with a hair dryer to reshape it as well
