As I look through this thread and even eBay listings I'm wondering how in the heck did people get so much ink in and on their bags? What the fire? I no longer carry ink pens in my handbags for fear that something like the pictured above will happen to one of my beloved Coach bags.
We were just all willy nilly with our Bic stick pens back in the 80s and 90s.

Ok .. Here are the pics from my trip to the Coach Store at KOP Mall yesterday. Coach wasn't my original destination, I actually went so I could get batteries for my SWATCH watches because the last SWATCH store in the Balto/DC/VA region, Tysons Corner, closed . Anyway, there I was drooling over the Willis when I spied the ?? in the case and the other bags on the shelf. Are the red and black bags Dinky's? I actually held the third bag from the right of the Stewardess bag (on the high shelf) and it's a Pocket Bag but it's not in pristine condition. The bag had a lot of ink stains in it and you could tell it was well used and loved.

I ALSO held the RED Maggie that was sold on the Coach website in the re-loved section. The person who purchased it thought it was a larger bag and ended up returning it to Coach at KOP Mall because the bag was too small. I opened it up and there was a card in it from Debi the Restorer. Here's a link to the bag at the Coach website: https://www.coach.com/coach-vintage-maggie-duffle/C8831.html?dwvar_color=B4/RD#start=27. If you want to purchase this bag, you can: just call Coach at KOP Mall and they will happily sell it to you for $495.00 + tax & s/h. UH-HUH!

Thanks for continuing to educate me on Coach bags and all things Coach!

The red with the Stewie (yeah I get lazy with typing out full names btw) and the black with the Willis? No for Dinky as the black is too big (compared to the Willis) and the red has D rings on the sides (the Dink either has directly sewn straps or an eyelet style bit of hardware). It is hard to correctly identify without their measurements. My educated guess is Pocket Bag or Convertible Clutch. other opinions are welcome. Geek out.
Shout out to Coach for the museum setting styling!

Ty for posting! I live just on the other side of the Ben Franklin and pre COVID-19 had wanted to make a trip out to KOP and ask the few questions at the craft bar. Hmmmm will have to check it out!
side note- I think we have enough posters here for vintage Coach KOP chapter
You're welcome! You should check out the craft bar. I eyeballed it and the entire shebang is really cool! That particular location has all of the goodies you need to decorate your lovely Coach bag if that's your heart's desire. (It isn't mine, sorry!) I cringed when the SA showed me and my sister some of the samples and how the decorative elements are applied. I like my bags just as they are and the only decorative elements I apply are fobs and scarves and things that can be removed, nothing permanent. Sorry! I'm just not that adventurous when it comes to my beloved Coach babies. But all of that bling is cool though!

YUP! And I no longer carry pens with me. My Coach bags are dear to me and I don't want any ink stains on/in them! I have a Tan Dinky that has a nice sized ink stain on it and I'm really trying to decide if I want to try to remove it or just leave it as it is.

IDK ... I will post a pic soon.

The museum styling was so cool! Blew my mind! I wasn't expecting that when I slouched around to the back of the store and viola! Vintage bags! What's amazing to me is that the bags are still there and Coach hasn't plucked them up and sold them on the website. (That is so mean!)
While chatting with the SA, he mentioned that the re-loved program is going to start next month. I noticed that Coach indicated that more beloved bags will be available for purchase on July 21st.

Ok - so they're not Dinky's. I got to handle one of them and it was a Pocket Bag or Pocket Pouch? What is the correct name for the 9755?

It's just that to me, the red and black bags looked so much different than Dinky's as well as several on the shelf. Sigh ... this means the possibility of another trip to KOP (a 2hr drive) to eyeball the bags again unless Lake Effect wants to go and check them all out? The SA made me put on white cotton gloves before I was allowed to handle to Pocket Bag.

My enthusiasm for this hobby has led me to buying old catalogs too! Well at least when they were being sold for $10 - $15! These are from the Holiday '88 catalog. Have you been to the Reference Forum where there is a thread of folks doing side by side comparisons of vintage Coach?

No! I haven’t! I didn’t even know there was such a forum! I must go check it out now! (Further sliding down the Coach rabbit hole!) Thanks for suggesting! I honestly wish I had saved all of my Coach catalogs from back in the day …

And I clearly remember telling a sales associate in the 90s, in an effort to save trees, cut down on what I thought would be "junk" mail, no please don't put me on the mailing list!
I think the up side of the Comparison Thread is that it may, may, have saved a few people from purchases because they got a better idea of the dimensions of a bag before they hit the BUY NOW.

I carry pens, but they are safely stored in zip lock bags.

Am I the only one that carries something classy to manage my pens? Take a look at my Bleecker Pencil Case in Sharkskin/Natural 64544 BQP, it's a beauty!

So I'm admiring all of the bags in this pic and drooling (wipes spittle away from mouth with back of hand)! Anyway, I moseyed to King of Prussia Mall yesterday and of course ended up in the Coach store. While wandering around I stumbled into the back of the store and lo and behold! ... There are a PLETHORA of vintage Coach bags on display! I actually grunted when I rounded the corner and saw the 1993 Willis Bag in case. My nose was pressed against the case and I was pawing at the glass trying to get to the bag. When I looked up, there was a shelf against the wall that contained a vintage Stewardess and several Dinky bags a well. I see your Dinky and Pocket Bag but what is the third small bag next to the Patricia's Legacy? At the Coach store there was a smaller bag that looked like a Dinky but was much smaller than any Dinky I've ever seen. I will post pics shortly.

Thanks!

I am dying--that Maggie at the KOP store is the one I returned! I honestly thought someone from the store would purchase it. If they were faking their enthusiasm, they were quite good! When I bought and returned the bag, the price was $395. Then Coach hiked the price $100. The Maggie at KOP is beautiful and in wonderful condition. However, the 9019 Maggies are available on ebay and other resale sites for appreciably less.

KOP is my most convenient FP store and the SAs are very, very nice. I mostly buy through the store in the Christiana Mall in Delaware, land of no sales tax.

I am with you. Ink is my number one personal issue with bags. Last night, there was a 9010 Berkeley duffle in red on ebay with a ton of ink marks both inside and out. It was $37 / OBO. I passed because I could feel the ink making my blood pressure go up!!

The transplant surgery was a success!

After searching high and low for a replacement spring lock, I finally found someone who was selling a bag that had one that was practically identical to the one's Coach uses. I was fairly surprised because I thought these spring locks were specific to Coach, so I never thought I'd find an identical one on a non-Coach bag. I thought my only option would've been to take one off a real bag, so I'm very happy to have found this alternative!

Here's a picture of the broken spring lock (on the navy bag) vs the replacement (on the olive bag). You can see that the one on the olive bag has 3 prongs on the inside vs the navy one that has no prongs. I recommend that anyone who buys a spring lock bag ask the sellers for pictures inside the lock and check for these prongs!

It's pretty impossible to find a replacement for these spring locks, I honestly don't know how I got so lucky to find one that looks practically the same. I did find a company named Loxx who makes spring locks. They don't look the same, but they seem to have similar measurements and they have different colors and styles. It can be pretty pricey depending on which website you buy them on. Here's a link to a cheaper nickel one on amazon that I came across.

Hi there,

One of the main problems encountered by past rehabbers after dunking was the front flap buckled and no longer lay flat. There is the possibility that there is some type of cardboard or particle board in the flap.

I decided NOT to dunk this one since she is already in such good condition. I touched her up with Coach leather cleaner and moisturizer and she is so lovely! I can't wait to carry this bag! She is most definitely one of my most favorite and BEST finds!

Natalie
I asked a restorer about dunking a manor because I’d heard stories about the cardboard in some bags. She told me the flap is lined with leather but there’s no cardboard so it was fine to dunk them. I had one that needed reshaping and it came out fine.

Oh WOW! You removed the trim! How did you do that? I went a little crazy with dunking bags and gave my vintage made in NYC (purchased new in 1983) Classic Pouch a bath. Big mistake! Now the leather has peeled from the piping in several places and it's freaking me out. I purchased some leather glue and carefully glued it back but the bag is no longer in the pristine condition it was before I bathed it. I will post pics later.

Thanks for sharing!

Nat
I had that happen with a really dry bag. It was so bad I sent it to a restorer who replaced three areas of piping with donor piping of similar width and leather from unsalvageable vintage Coach bags . Came out great!
