Good day everyone,

I recently received the Coach Manor handbag I won on eBay and was wondering if I should dunk her or not. I do like to dunk new-to-me handbags but I'm feeling really skittish about dunking this one. This bag is in excellent condition and is really clean on the inside. I searched through and read every post about the Manor bag in this thread and the consensus seems to be "If I could do it again, I wouldn't dunk this bag." What do you think? Does this bag need to be dunked or should I just surface clean and moisturize her and go on my merry way?View attachment 5131003View attachment 5131004View attachment 5131005View attachment 5131000View attachment 5131001View attachment 5130998View attachment 5131002View attachment 5130999

Thanks for all your help!

Nat

Nice bag! I've never rehabbed a manor bag so I cannot advise you, but what problems have been encountered by rehabbers that have dunked this bag? Dunking it may be the best thing to reshape it but I don't understand the concerns.

If you don't want to dunk it you can try stuffing and steaming it to reshape it.

Hi there,

One of the main problems encountered by past rehabbers after dunking was the front flap buckled and no longer lay flat. There is the possibility that there is some type of cardboard or particle board in the flap.

I decided NOT to dunk this one since she is already in such good condition. I touched her up with Coach leather cleaner and moisturizer and she is so lovely! I can't wait to carry this bag! She is most definitely one of my most favorite and BEST finds!

If you decide not to dunk, you can stuff the bag & gently go over it with a hair dryer to reshape it as well
Thank you for this great piece of advice! I'm going to try this method with the Small Flap purse I received a while ago. I dunked it but didn't go a good job of reshaping her. Off to try this now!

Thanks again!

Good to know, thanks and congrats on your lovely new bag!

Advice needed. Alright. Well I thought today was a good day for bathing so washed 5 bags at once. Got some good sun but now it’s raining. Here are some photos.

So I washed my Patricias Legacy with the bad trim and I noticed some white specks. Now I am aware of spew and I’m not sure this is mold. I tried vinegar and some diluted alcohol. I could scrape some of it off but the tiny fleks are not budging! Any advice? This also happened with a mahogany Whitney I have which I still haven’t fixed. I’m worried something in my tub/sink caused a reaction. The rest of the group is fine. Any help is appreciated. :( image.jpg4628C2C2-1685-4DB6-8F4D-F42BCB847EF2.jpegimage.jpg

Does it come off with conditioner?

Does it come off with conditioner?

it comes off with nothing. Lol. I got desperate and decided to use my suede eraser which I know isn’t advised but it worked. It took of that surface layer the spots stuck to. I then went back with CPR all while the bag was damp.

I also removed the trim. I decided to buy some from Etsy and hand sew. She is prepped now. That will be the hardest part. This bag has been so challenging but it’s coming together. Also I’m fairly sure it was bloom or something because I hand washed the strap separate without it touching any surface and it developed the same spotting and white splotches. Fortunately it was sparse. I assume the bag had it all along and I helped it come out in the wash.

Oh WOW! You removed the trim! How did you do that? I went a little crazy with dunking bags and gave my vintage made in NYC (purchased new in 1983) Classic Pouch a bath. Big mistake! Now the leather has peeled from the piping in several places and it's freaking me out. I purchased some leather glue and carefully glued it back but the bag is no longer in the pristine condition it was before I bathed it. I will post pics later.

Thanks for sharing!

So I'm admiring all of the bags in this pic and drooling (wipes spittle away from mouth with back of hand)! Anyway, I moseyed to King of Prussia Mall yesterday and of course ended up in the Coach store. While wandering around I stumbled into the back of the store and lo and behold! ... There are a PLETHORA of vintage Coach bags on display! I actually grunted when I rounded the corner and saw the 1993 Willis Bag in case. My nose was pressed against the case and I was pawing at the glass trying to get to the bag. When I looked up, there was a shelf against the wall that contained a vintage Stewardess and several Dinky bags a well. I see your Dinky and Pocket Bag but what is the third small bag next to the Patricia's Legacy? At the Coach store there was a smaller bag that looked like a Dinky but was much smaller than any Dinky I've ever seen. I will post pics shortly.

Thanks!

Ok .. Here are the pics from my trip to the Coach Store at KOP Mall yesterday. Coach wasn't my original destination, I actually went so I could get batteries for my SWATCH watches because the last SWATCH store in the Balto/DC/VA region, Tysons Corner, closed . Anyway, there I was drooling over the Willis when I spied the ?? in the case and the other bags on the shelf. Are the red and black bags Dinky's? I actually held the third bag from the right of the Stewardess bag (on the high shelf) and it's a Pocket Bag but it's not in pristine condition. The bag had a lot of ink stains in it and you could tell it was well used and loved.

I ALSO held the RED Maggie that was sold on the Coach website in the re-loved section. The person who purchased it thought it was a larger bag and ended up returning it to Coach at KOP Mall because the bag was too small. I opened it up and there was a card in it from Debi the Restorer. Here's a link to the bag at the Coach website: https://www.coach.com/coach-vintage-maggie-duffle/C8831.html?dwvar_color=B4/RD#start=27. If you want to purchase this bag, you can: just call Coach at KOP Mall and they will happily sell it to you for $495.00 + tax & s/h. UH-HUH!

Thanks for continuing to educate me on Coach bags and all things Coach!

Hi all!
Just wanted to share my latest Cassie repaint. It started out as stone blue (1st photo) but I'm not a big blue bag girl (acquired Madison in Azure during the sale which scratched that itch).
Anyhow...I used all Angelus products...deglazer, acrylic leather paint in Avocado & matte finisher. The Angelus products were really easy to use (as opposed to the Fieblings I had used in the past). The matte finisher didn't give me much of the matte finish I was wanting but overall I'm quite pleased. Olive is my favorite color so when I learned the Cassie had been discontinued, I knew this would be my next project!
Cassie camera bag in Taupe is my next project...going black which will go great with the silver hardware. Any tips on achieving a closer to matte finish appreciated.
Thanks for letting me share!

I'm loving the avocado green of this bag! To me, it is warmer and richer than the blue. So beautiful!

Thank you for sharing with us!

Seeking some advice as I begin a rehab I’m excited about: a red made-in-NYC tote!

There are stray pen marks on the outside (I’m doing what I can for those with vinegar dabbing) and what look like small ink puddles on the inside. Nothing from the inside ink puddles has bled through to the outside of the bag, but I’m a little afraid they will when I dunk.

Im attaching some pictures - how would you handle these to lessen any risk of ink bleed through? Or are these little puddles too small to worry about? Many thanks for input!

As I look through this thread and even eBay listings I'm wondering how in the heck did people get so much ink in and on their bags? What the fire? I no longer carry ink pens in my handbags for fear that something like the pictured above will happen to one of my beloved Coach bags.

Ty for posting! I live just on the other side of the Ben Franklin and pre COVID-19 had wanted to make a trip out to KOP and ask a few questions at the craft bar. Hmmmm will have to check it out!
side note- I think we have enough posters here for vintage Coach KOP chapter

This coin purse looked permanently stained from coins inside but washed out beautifully.

After. The color is even; it is the flash that is making it look lighter at the top. I'm amazed it came out so well. I expected coin staining to be permanent as I've had trouble washing it out of cloth linings. I didn't do a lot of scrubbing. Just a normal dunk and 3 coats of CPR.
