Hi,

I just sprayed my new medium tote w/ Wilson's protectant, and I have 2 questions/ issues:

1. I think the spray might have caused 4 long thin streaks on the back of the bag?? (i try to examine my bags very carefully when i first purchase and I could've sworn the streaks were not there (i bought the bag on amazon, btw)

2. the strange thing was that when i sprayed, the bag didn't seem like it got "wet" at all- (I touched it right away and it felt dry already) Is it possible that because it was
a warm day and I did it outdoors? So I did 2 coats, followed the directions and sprayed 6-8 inches away and used up the rest of the bottle

So has anyone had the experience w/ #2? Does the spray just dry very quickly?? Btw- I sprayed it when it was hung on a hanger- not sure if I should've done it laying flat :(

Also- now that I've sprayed it with 2 coats- is it possible to even remove the streaks if it was indeed caused by the spray?? Help!! Any advice is greatly appreciated! I can also send pics if that helps! Thanks!

^^I use Wilson's TLC aerosol spray and have never had an issue with streaks. Like you, I take the bag outside and hold the can several inches from the bag. The application does not look or feel wet...occasionally I will get a few dark spots (like rain spots) but they quickly dry. I bring the bag back inside and let it hang on a hanger until it dries and then I reapply.

Some of the colors seem prone to streaks. Maybe you could post a pic so that someone with some real knowledge can help. ;)

You need to clean it before conditioning and protecting.

Hi all,
I'm relatively new here but need some advice. I've read through a lot of replies here but some of it gets confusing so I thought I'd just post!
I have the Large Lola Tote in black and have used it for about a year. It holds up amazingly through rain etc, but I want to protect the leather to make it last as long as possible because it's honestly my favourite bag and I use it all the time.

What specific product should I buy to use on the leather? I live in Canada, if that makes a difference.

The spray did not cause the streaks. While damp, the streaks became easier to see.
Streaks and dots or slightly darker areas on a brand new bag are usually just concentrated dye areas and can be easily evened ~rubbed out by hand (most of the time, in my experience). Natural variations of skin density affects the color saturation, and is not a big deal.

And yes, the spray dries quickly, as Cat mentioned.

Thanks so much Cathead and Stormy!! I think the streaks must've been there, but its so slight that I probably did not notice it before. Thanks for sharing your experience with the Wilson's spray- that was super helpful. Guess I can take the bag out for a spin now! :)

Hi All! I just purchased a Dylan medium tote in brown from eBay. The bag was supposed to be in 'like-new' condition but it's not. I know I can return it for a full refund, however, I got a really sweet deal on it and can't afford any of the others I have seen for sale. So, I'm hoping I can clean it up a little bit. I noticed 2 or 3 small dark stains on the front of the bag. Unfortunately I don't know if the bag was pre-treated or what these stains are. Is there a goof-proof way to remove them? I am terrified of putting anything on the spot because I had a nice B. Makowsky bag (which is supposed to be nice-ish leather) and when I tried to remove a stain with water and a cloth the color of the leather 'bled' a bit and I ended up with a huge ring around the stain. Anyway, I'm just wondering what I can try that won't leave a gross ring around these stains or remove any color from the leather. There are also some lighter stains too, wish I knew what the heck they were.

Any thoughts are much appreciated!

One other question...is the 'frayed' edging on the handles and around the small pocket in front normal or does that mean the bag is even more worn than I thought?

Thanks in advance!

The edges are unfinished intentionally.

Please post pics of the stains and hopefully someone will chme in and give you some good advice.

I need to get some photos posted but I'm not having luck with the stains. I have tried plain water and also some Kiwi leather cleaner (for nubuck and suede) and it hasn't helped the stains plus the area around them now looks "rubbed" even though I was very careful. I am contemplating *gasp* putting it in the washer like dangitjess did (see post #211 in this thread).

Can/should I try that? The thought terrifies me but it worked out well for her. Not sure what else I could do otherwise :(

COOP !!! Great to 'see' you again !
The LP metallics are very well done, but because it is a finish, it will show (rub) wear on the corners eventually, revealing the base leather, the color of which you can see on your unfinished edges. Usually grey under silver, tan under bronze, etc, so it's not a major distress situation.
Remember the silver and gold brush-off (washed) distressed Dylans ? Those were intentionally made with a contrasting under color and had a sorta matte finish. The new ones are nothing like those. They are proper metallics. I am very impressed with the quality of LP metallics ! The finish is gorgeous, not flashy, and the leather is soft. There is no crackling or artificial feel. They are not flake-prone. You can expect to get great wear with them. Longevity is something I can't comment on, because I rotate too fast. My silver LP looks brand new after several trips. It just seemed to get softer, as you are familiar with LP 'break-ins'. I would love a bronze myself. You have such good taste.
I am not in favor of spraying them, because the chemicals can dull your finish which makes me think it is is harmful, breaking it down somehow, contributing to premature wear IMO. It is OK to use Fiebing's clear topcoats on metallic leather to keep the finish protected on the bottom corners, like a clear topcoat on your nail polish. (if you want perfection).
Wilson's lotion is good for LP metallics !!
Sag (hello!) The Camo is awesome! I conditioned a brand new one today with Wilson's lotion. It is beautiful, supple, interesting and unique. The best part is IF you ever got a spot, it would blend right into the pattern. The pewter has the most magnificent pale bronze tint, looks dark grey-silver in daylight. Just amazing.

(just realized my answer belongs in the Care Thread. If it helps anyone, feel free to copy this post up there)

Stormy - I recently purchased a Dylan wallet in pewter and was searching the threads to see about applying conditioner. Is Wilson's lotion the same as Apple Leather Care?

I have a black Alex zipp shoulder bag. It has a few stains on it that are a faded white in color. I have a toddler so I suspect the stains could be from milk. I tried to clean them with an Applecare product and that didn't seem to work and now I see that is not recommended for LP. Any ideas on how I might be able to clean the stains?

TIA

You have effectively set and sealed the stains with Apple and altered the special enzyme garment washed italian leather permanently.

Linea Pelle are easy to keep nice with simple methods outlined in this thread.

I just got my second Linea Pelle bag in the lovely turquoise color, the Dylan large hobo. It is brand new so I am anxious to treat it for water. I just bought a spray can of the Kiwi Meltonian Water & Stain Protector from amazon. I am so glad this thread is here, I never would have thought to spray it.
