I have a Dylan medium tote off white/ivory and used it once and just noticed it has marks on front... black marks like something rubbed against it. I haven't treated it and am afraid I don't know how to clean it? Any direction you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Use a regular white pencil eraser, gently and with the leather grain. This should be all you need to do before giving the bag a good Rain & Stain protection.

Hi All! I used TANA All Protector for universal use....suede, nubuck and leather. Dries really fast and no color alteration or darkening at all. This was used on LP Veronica Dk Brown Leather purse. I got mine at Winners, (of course on reduced...lol) but I think you can get it at Walmart and most of the shoe stores. I am in Canada so I don't know if it is available in the US also.

Hello Ladies! I bought my first used LP this week, dzt in a green color, I have read through this whole thread to learn all about how to properly clean her up. Armed with all of Stormys wonderful tips and advise (Thank you so much!!) I bought a cleaner for suede and nubuck, it has a brush on top, which I know you said don't be afraid to use one, but it feels quite rough so I may just use a cloth. Anyways, I just wanted the Stormy Seal of Approval on it before I begin my clean. Here are the pics of what I bought, I just would rather be safe than sorry :) thank you so much!!

Hi Jenny. I am glad you checked first. What you have is strictly for napped leather. It's a chemical dry cleaner for suede. The bristles are much too rough for your Dylan. Harsh chemicals are not needed for routine cleaning of smooth washed leather LPs.

** When I say check that your products state "safe for all fine leather, suede and nubuck", we are talking about Leather Protector (Rain and Stain guard) and any Conditioner you might use. This is because washed and perforated leathers won't tolerate products made for finished leather. Oils in conditioners and all-purpose cleaner/conditioner formulas ruin washed leather texture by adding something that shouldn't be there. These wouldn't absorb evenly anyway, creating a huge mess.
The conditioner side of this Meltonian spray (cleaner/conditioner combo) product could spot smooth leather, plus you'd be exposed to an awful lot of fumes doing a whole DZT. :faint:

Brush the bag with clean terrycloths to remove surface dust and dirt.
Use a regular eraser to rub out any small spots/stains.

If you want to wash the bag, use diluted vegetable soap solution,
A soft facial brush is OK for scrubbing. Rinse by wiping down with clear distilled water dampened cloths. Allow to air dry.

You might also wish to freshen the interiors of used bags. LP linings are not stitched to the floor of the bag, so are easy to clean. Iron the cotton to sanitize, or you can just pop it out, give it a good shake, use a lint brush, and spritz with alcohol.

Save that suede cleaner for touch ups on a Alex or gorgeous Willow !

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if you can help me.

I have the Dylan zip tote in Black for about 2 years now and I noticed that the color in the back side of the bag is fading to this greyish color compared to the front.

This is very disturbing to me! :graucho:

Any ideas?

BTW - I purchased recently the Apple leather conditioner and cleaner.

Thanks in advance! :smile1:

I just purchased the Addison shoulder tote in brown, which is a perforated leather (see Addison Shoulder Bag thread for pics). It's only my first time wearing her out today, but it leaves little pieces of 'leather lint' on my jacket and shirt from rubbing against my side. The bag itself seems to have little leather like 'threads' too where it's rubbing. Maybe this is just temporary if it's coming from the leftover cutouts when perforations were made? It doesn't look like it though. :shucks:

I've had other perforated bags with no issues, but maybe it's the combination of the washed leather with the perforated is too much. (I really have no idea). :whiteflag:

I see from Stormy Heart's post above that regular conditions/protectors are not meant for washed/perforated leather. Any ideas? I'm not 100% sold on keeping the bag yet, but this may be the dealbreaker.

Apple is not recommended for Linea Pelle. It's one of those "Not for Nubuck", so not OK for LP.

Any cleaner or conditioner used on LP washed leather has to be Nubuck- safe or compatible.

*Washed leather is naked but not all naked leather is washed.*

Washed leathers absorb regular conditioners unevenly. As I have stated many times, you will ruin the washed, naked leather with products that say they are also for FINISHED (top color-coated) leather.

No all-purpose cleaning or conditioning product can be used. Ever.

No 'combo' cleaner-conditioner (such as Apple) is to be used on LP washed leather.

Clean with vegetable soap diluted 1:10 with distilled H2O ONLY. (as instructed in post 321 and several others)

(you may want to search inside this thread for "Apple")

Linea Pelle color goes completely through the leather, and the back would not 'fade' before the front, so either it's dirty or the surface dyes have rubbed off a little due to friction from your clothing. This happens when the leather has not been conditioned.

First try removing surface dirt off with clean terrycloth.

Then test a small area by rubbing briskly with your hand to bring the dye back to the surface.
Notice how it darkens.
A good massage is usually all that's needed to refresh Linea Pelle colors.

Because the tote has been in use for two years, clean it according to the usual directions found on your Linea Pelle Care card or in this thread before conditioning.

LeatherMagic makes the best conditioner for washed leather. http://leathermagicpro.com/Pages/NuBulthrconditioner.htm
This is the only conditioning product I will use on washed leather.

Apply as directed except do not brush when dry;
instead lightly BUFF with very soft clean textured fabric.

Massage the entire bag well with clean hands to finish, to more evenly distribute conditioner and encourage dye migration back to surface.
You may repeat conditioner/massage on the back, to help protect that side, if you wish.

UV protectors are good for dark and bright colors:

Sorry, what is the 'deal breaker' ?
That you cannot use regular conditioner ?

It is normal to see leather fibers on any raw leather edges. Yes, the washed perfs seem to have lots but think of all those little cuts. This is far less noticeable on metallic and finished perforated leathers.

I have six washed leather (& one metallic) LP perf bags, and have no issues with 'leather lint". Simply give the bag a soft brushing to loosen the cut fibers, give her a good shake, then go over it with a lint roller made for clothing.
This accelerates the normal 'fallout' that would occur with time & use.

Your textured jacket performed some
exfoliation so you have a head start. It's not a situation that will last forever!

Use http://leathermagicpro.com/Pages/NuBulthrconditioner.htm
to condition. Perforated leather has a million ways to become overdry with all that raw exposure to air.

Some time ago we had a lady who felt her strap edges were a little too raw. In that case a fine emery board smoothed things out. This is not possible with perfs but if you try as advised, I think you will be pleased with results.

please note that IF you bought a 'floor model' or sample or 'straight from the showroom' bag off 'Bay or any RE-resold bag that was sourced this way ~~ well, you'd have a used and possibly imperfect bag.

I  LP leather. The perfs are so lightweight and have that great textured pattern. Addisons rock. Even DH likes them. The first time I carried one (brown), he stopped in his tracks and said "Cool bag". Because he often ends up carrying or holding one for me, it helps that a man wouldn't mind being seen doing that! Edgy and not too girly, in other words.

PS I am very fond of the soft fawn brown color of the Addison. It's one of the prettiest browns they've done.

Thanks for the reply - the dealbreaker I was referring to was the bag 'shedding' onto my jacket and clothes. Unfortunately, I did buy the bag off 'bay and believe the bag was a floor model. I hope this won't affect the results from your advice too much. I'm a bit disappointed as I have noticed a few defects that weren't in the description, but it was a good deal and are minor things I think I can live with. I will def. try your advice to help further 'exfoliate' the bag and really appreciate it. After carrying it today, I fell in love with it - it's super lightweight and breezy and I'm also loving the colour as you mentioned.

It's funny you mentioned your DH loving the bag, my BF instantly loved it too, and was actually the one who convinced me to get this bag in the first place.

You're welcome Sley !

The conditioner will really help, too.

I think you've found two keepers ~ Addison and your BF !
He has great taste ~ after all, he chose you !

It's so nice to trust your partner's decisions. I see many perfect gifts in your future :graucho:

Hi all,
I'm relatively new here but need some advice. I've read through a lot of replies here but some of it gets confusing so I thought I'd just post!
I have the Large Lola Tote in black and have used it for about a year. It holds up amazingly through rain etc, but I want to protect the leather to make it last as long as possible because it's honestly my favourite bag and I use it all the time.

What specific product should I buy to use on the leather? I live in Canada, if that makes a difference.
