Reposting from HH subforum. Issues that I'm having in conditioning a LP Dylan Bag:

I used Leather Honey to condition a LP Medium Dylan Tote in Iron & Cobalt. The cobalt turned out good w/ a bit of shine, but the Iron one came out terribly spotty. I guess the Iron is unfinished leather.

I'm currently working on washing the bag repeatedly with mild soap and water to restore pre-Honey Leather debacle. After that is done, I'm going to recondition with Lubriderm; which worked on a old Tano w/ the same type of leather. I'm still thinking about buying the recommended Leather Magic Conditioner if the Lubriderm doesn't do the trick.

Let me know what ya'll think.
Thanks
Steph

ALL the washed leathers are unfinished and need products made specifically for them. Rich conditioners in effect, add a finish which forever changes the character of the leather. Please do not body lotions intended for living skin. Use the right stuff first. Your Cobalt has now been altered. The Iron will probably look tied dyed no matter what you do.

I'm on the verge of buying my first LP, a Concorde Dylan Medium Tote, and need info on how to care for it before I carry it. I know nothing about washed leathers and what that entails. I used the search function, but found nothing about caring for Concorde. Thanks in Advance.

hi everyone! i have a question on the durability of the stitching on the dylan models, i guess? i had an issue with my dylan medium tote.....

my first LP was a black dylan medium tote (with gunmetal hardware)-- within the same month, the stitching became loose! it was on one of the two handles-- the front one. there's two little oval-ish shaped "patches" of leather-- the top one having the two studs, and underneath this, there's that second patch that's on the body of the bag. the stitching around the second patch was loosening so much that i could gently pull up that side of the handle to see the underside of the patch :P it's getting repaired at this time.

when i get a bag, i always thoroughly check everything-- including the stitching around the handles/straps that secure the straps to the body of the bag, since i carry so much darn stuff, so it has to look durable to me or i'll return it before use...

i was wondering if anyone has had this happen? i do carry a fair amount of stuff but with the softer leather of LPs and the design of the dylan, i wonder if with that, i should be more careful carrying so much stuff my medium dylan, once i get it back? or could it have been a QC issue? i really want a dylan zip tote but i'm worried if i buy it, and it doesn't have the option for a shoulder strap like the medium dylan (so i can switch between carrying modes), i might have the same thing happen again...

Hmmm, I had some handle stitching come lose and pull out entirely but it wasn't anything that effected the bag. I'm not sure how to explain it, the section of the handle that loops over the brass ring, not attached to the bag. They tacked it together so I guess the sides would lay flat together over the ring, but this stitching came out. However, the handles are still firmly attached so it never bothered me.

Hi again. Pulled the trigger and I'm awaiting a NWT Concorde Dylan Medium Tote. I have read this thread, and learned about the new vs old Wilsons protector spray. Are there issues with the new aerosol? Has anyone tried it? I'm tempted to not treat it, and just stay the heck out of the rain with it, but if someone else has had recent good results (since they changed the product) I would be most appreciative of your opinions.

^^

I have my concorde Med Dylan coming tomorrow and would like to know too! I used to have a lot of LP bags but have sold them all b/c the leather was so sensitive. My mustard Dylan got water droplets on it and it was forever ruined in my eyes....

I used the Wilson's TLC aerosol that cathead shows in her post #254 in this thread. I used 3 light, but thorough coats. It worked great on my iron Dylan Med Tote and on my dark olive crossbody. I take them both out in the rain regularly with no problems.

Ok, thanks. I found the post you mean number 264. I guess I will find some old aerosol Wilsons, and take the plunge. I am so nervous. I have been putting off using my Rebecca Minkoffs outside, because I haven't had the nerve to treat them with the Apple products either. Kings let me know how yours turns out. Keeping my fingers crossed. Now it's off to EBay to find the aerosol product. Thank you Carmelita.

So...I just sprayed my brand new Concorde Dylan Medium Tote with Wilsons Leather and Suede Protector. The aerosol kind because that's the only one I found.
I have nothing bad to report, only that it smells very bad at first but the smells goes away as it dries. Colored stayed the same. I first sprayed the little swatch with 3 coats before attempting it on the whole bag!

Ok, you have convinced me. I'm going over to EBay, and buying the aerosol Wilson's Leather and Suede Protector, and I'll spray my Dylan. How long did you guys wait between coats? And has anyone tried it on suede? I got some Uggs for Christmas that I haven't worn yet, I'm thinking I'll spray them as well.

I waited 1-2 hours between coats, making sure the previous coat had completely dried. And I used the spray on my girl's Uggs and our suede boots. It helps to protect them, but as they get dirty water kicked up from the ground, they can still get dirty. At least its some protection.

I did 1 coat, waited 2 hours, another, decided it was enough, left the bag alone overnight, had a nightmare, attacked it again with the spray in the morning, left it to dry again all day....then, after 2 days, I finally took it out!!!! Looks beautiful.
