Any tips for the Alex?? I bought a corset in Olive. This is my first LP and I don't want to make any mistakes with it.

Also, let me just say that you are SO helpful, Stormy! I tip my purse to you! :)

I'm new to LP and just purchased a black med dylan tote with the gunmetal hardware. I've searched thru this thread several times but am confused as to what treatment is appropriate. I've been carrying Coach leathers for the last several years and did nothing to them and they still look new so I am clueless on how to treat/protect leather. Please help me take care of my new LP! Thanks!

^^ I am curious about the Dylan leather too. I have one in iron and I don't want it to get darker of have streaks (anymore than it already does). Any tips on protectant? Had anyone tried Apple or another spray? TIA!

Hello fellow LP-lovers!!
I am a new to the forum (even though I've been a fan of purseblog for years) and this is my first post. I also just indulged in my very 1st LP! I guess it's a day of "firsts" for me :)
anyways, I bought the Dylan Zip Tote in Elephant (dark brown, in some lights could look dark grey) with brass hardware, and I am now an LP fan for life because of how awesome the DZT is! I seriously want one in every color!
Ok so on to the very bad news...yes, I wish this was all about the awesomeness of LP, but sadly, no :(
So, I pre-treated (or thought I did) my DZT with a bottle of Aldo Defense spray I've had for couple yrs now. I think I sprayed about 2 coats. Well, couple days ago I was in my car going through a drive-thru Starbucks for my iced venti caramel machiatto, when I made a sharp turn and splat! There goes iced caramel coffee all over the back of my brand new DZT!! I wanted to cry, I wanted to stop and pull over to assess the damage right away, but I was late for work already and all I could do was blot the spills with napkins. Anyways, now there are 2 long streak stains all down the back and a few splatters here and there.
I tried to read the entire thread and I am confused about which methods I need to try.
But first of all, why didn't my Aldo Defense spray do it's job? Is it because it was old and expired? What to do, what to do??
Please help me :(

Well, I've researched both Apple and Wilsons online for lambskin and both seem to have mixed reviews. Other than the darkening the leather, is there any reason not to use Apple?

Plummiecat - By reading the thread, it looks like dark colors do not need to be treated but can be if it makes you feel better about taking it out in the rain. Like you, I carried Coach bags for years and never had a problem. Then I ventured into RM and had a bag damaged due to rain. I now pre-treat everything. P.S. The Dylan tote in black w/gm is beautiful. Congrats!

I have a can of Apple spray but after reading this thread I was too afraid to use it. lol I ended up using the Wilson's TLC (aerosol) and haven't had a problem. I normally do 3 coats. The smell is quite strong, so I do it outside. I have used Apple on suede and there was no darkening.

Wilson's TLC spray is real favorite among LP fans, but I've recently had a questionable experience with it. I read through all 17 pages of this thread before I did any kind of treatment on my new Dylan Medium Tote in Iron (yes, the summer 2010 style with gunmetal hardware!) and 3 days after treating it, the leather has remained a shade or two darker, and has a few "streaks" in the folds of the leather.

I am not particularly bothered by either of these things because...
1) It may actually lighten up with wearing, and
2) It is still a gorgeous bag I am proud to carry!

The reason I'm posting here is to ask whether anyone is aware about possible changes in the Wilson's TLC formula? Hadn't it gone off the market for a period? (I recall people trying to "stock up" when it was unavailable for some time.) And if so, is it possible that the formula has changed since it's readily available on the Wilson's site now?

Just curious whether anyone has a guess, or better yet, inside information.

hi! yikes, i haven't used wilson's tlc in a while for this reason...i had used it just fine on my HH bags last summer but then, i remember ordering some more from wilson's, receiving them , and noting that instead of a slightly, if i recall correctly, milky/watery liquid, it was a clear, almost oily solution in a clear bottle, not opaque/grey bottle. i think i used the new batch on a new RM haze leather darling that came with a glaze to it, and i swear i think the natural variations were "enhanced" or got darker considerably in the top areas of the bag that get folded down (due to the style of the bag). the type of leather already has a distressed/natural look to it so it wasn't really bad but i'm afraid to try this stuff on my other bags! i have no clue what happened-- was i supposed to shake it up more before spraying, or did i get a bad batch? i've gone back to using apple garde and despite the fumes, it has never failed me :P

**edit: mine was the non-aerosol spray (maybe i should've tried the aerosol one!)

How awful, did you ever get help on how to clean it?

I use TLC Wilsons spay (the old stuff) on my LP's and it does fine.

However, I once used the apple cream on a washed leather bag (different brand) and it left darkened areas in several places, it was a cream colored bag.

pgtea, I think the difference in the "old" and "new" non-aerosol spray from Wilson's must account for the difference. I wish I had the old stuff, but no sense being upset over it now... My bag DID lighten up with wear, but I do not think it actually protected anything as I already have some dark blue spots from rubbing against dark jeans. Egads!

I think Carmelita was smart to get the aerosol version of TLC spray. I hope it works much better for others. I'm tempted to just through the other bottles I have of the new, clear and oily pump spray away or send them back to Wilson's.

Ok, so I was wearing my suede cognac Alex speedy in REI today and I was holding on to this dark teal chasmere sweater (it was like 90% polyster). I got color transfer on three areas of my bag, I am so pissed off! Of course I didn't buy the sweater. Does anyone know how to get rid of color transfer on suede. I am going home today and was planning on spraying it with Wilson's hopefully that would have protected it. I don't know if I should spray it now that the color transfer is there, I should probably treat the first somehow, right? Please help!

Oh no Olidivia, not your beautiful bag! I definitely wouldn't treat with Wilsons before cleaning. I'm hoping someone else chimes in with cleaning advice - I don't have anything to add before I would frantically search online - which I'm sure you're doing now....

My new zucca dylan zip wallet, it has what looks like price sticker residue on the back. Now, I am absolutely unfamiliar with caring for leather bags. What should I use to try and clean it? I read about using the UV protector. Can anyone walk me through what I need to use to get this baby in tip top shape and in what order? The more specific the directions the better :shame:
