Help! I think I might have ruined my red LP Nikki with Coach leather conditioner. The area where the first contact occurred is significantly darker than the others. Is there a solution for me to even this out so I don't end up with color blocks? Thank you in advance for your help!

Ughhhh... Recently purchased the Dylan medium tote in brown and carried it out this weekend before treating. HUGE mistake. (my other Dylan is black and so I didn't realize how delicate/easy the leather showed spots) Apparently someone held a dripping drink over my bag and now it has several water spots. I came running to this site and am so glad I've found some suggestions, I will be trying my hardest to get her fixed. Just wanted to pass along that I went to the Wilson's site to get the suggested TLC to treat with after cleaning and by signing up for emails today you get an email with shopping link that offers free shipping on any order. Whole site is also 25% off today so great time to stock up! I can not express how much I am in love with the Dylan line... glad to find others who share the passion :)

Hi, I know how you feel. It just makes you feel sick. I guess by now you have tried giving it a gentle rubbing with your fingernails. It works sometimes, I also use a white eraser, and that is great for rubbing out some spots on the brown leathers. I haven't ever used Wilsons, but I have heard it is good, as well as the Apple care products. Good luck. I love my LP bags!!

Hi all,

I just read through this entire thread in anticipation of my first LP (a black DMT) arriving early next week! I saw the many posts that discussed cleaning LPs, but I have a question about how to safely disinfect LPs (not just clean). For all my other leather bags, I have always safely used Wet Ones Antibacterial Wipes to wipe down my bags. However, I'm not sure if this would be OK on an LP.

Has anyone ever tried Wet Ones wipes on an LP? If it's not recommended, is there anything else that would be recommended to quickly disinfect (not just clean) the bag?

Thanks!

I've never disinfected any of my LPs and I wouldn't try just because idk how the leather would react to such products. I also wouldn't treat your black DMT when you get it, black leather does just fine without any treatment.

Thanks piosavsfan! I'm a bit of a germaphobe so I am used to periodically sanitizing/disinfecting my leather bags with wet one wipes. If anyone else has tips on how they've successfully (or not successfully) sanitized/disinfected their LPs, I'd be very appreciative!

Also, thanks for the tip on not needing to protect the bag. I'm so accustomed to spraying Wilson's TLC on my leather bags, so this will be something new! Would it still be a good idea to spray to make it more water-resistant in case the bag gets caught in the rain?

I turn the bags inside out and clean the interiors as needed, brush out lint, etc. Then mist isopropyl alcohol on the fabric and hang that way 'til dry to sanitize. Interiors harbor lots of bacteria, so I worry more about that. For all light and bright color leathers, Wilson's protector is always recommended. It helps any leather withstand rain better than naked, so dark colors do benefit if. Wiping down the exterior with wet ones wouldn't be great for the leather long term. (will dry it out)

Thanks Stormy for the tips!!

Stormy Heart,

The Venice line seems to have different leather than other LP bags. Is that the case? If so, any changes in treatment recommendations?

Thank you!

OK , it's still the same, why do you think it is different ? Looks like the gorgeous LP leather we are accustomed to. No new Tx Rx.

The leather is gorgeous and thick but is more textured, like elephant skin.

That texture is within the normal range of variation with washed leather. It may be a slightly heavier hide. Some of my newer pieces seem to be. Venice are more structured by LP standards, and a little thicker hide holds shape better, because the washing/tumbling softens leather. Same care as usual, Unfinished leather safe products only.

Hi,

I recently acquired a new East West in bordeaux.

In my excitement, I used the bag without treating it first (I know!).
I've read through all the posts (thanks, ladies). I couldn't find a clear and direct answer regarding water stains/marks.

I ended up getting caught in the rain twice in one week. The first time, almost half of the bag was nearly soaked. That dried fine, though, thankfully. The second time (another surprise heavy downpour) left a couple of small water marks/stains. How do I remove them? And which treatment brand should I use for future protection? I know Wilson's has the old vs. new formulas. Which is better? Should I try a different brand altogether?

Thank you!!!
