It's a plain and simple fake. There are many things wrong with your bag, not just the nonstandard hardware. If they were to make a special edition, they would use the same stamping equipment, fonts and factory codes that they use for all other items made in the factory.
Whateve,

Thanks for the confirmation. I simply don't know what to do with this bag. I really don't want it in my collection but I don't want to give it to some charity because they will probably try to sell it. Should I throw it away? Recycle it? I don't want it to end up in a landfill either. What would any of you do with it?

Thanks!

N

I would take the time and cut the whole zippered pocket with the creed on it out...then pass it on to a kid on the neighborhood who would like a leather bag.

It might be a tight fit to do that...or you could write Fake in a big black marker on the creed and pass it on to a neighborhood kid to use...The D rings might be useful on another bag.

Ok… that’s a thought! Thank you for your suggestion! I think I’ll return it to the depths of the closet for now.

I never recommend disposing of a fake in the trash because landfills are overloaded with too much "stuff," some of which never breaks down.

As @Narnanz suggested, you can either remove the whole pocket or just the creed AND the hangtag and with nothing indicating that it's a fake Coach, it can be donated and subsequently purchased by someone who doesn't mind a bag without an interior pocket.

Another suggestion that has been made is to use a fake around the house to carry cleaning products or art supplies (for kids) or hold small tools in the garage or basement.

A unique conversation piece can be had in the yard by using a fake as a plant pot and hanging it from the fence. It might be similar to this image I found on Google:

Hello!
Three of my bags (black regina, BT court, and black court) all start with H5C. The Regina's H5C looks a little different than the Court stamps due to some stamp lines on top. Any insight on this? Just more curious than anything about these bag sisters.

Thank you!

Thank you!
I believe the difference is because the overstamping marks show up when the stamp was pressed more firmly into the leather.

First post on this thread so please let me know if it belongs elsewhere.
I am trying to learn how to identify obvious potential fakes, in case I encounter one in the wild.
I came across a "Vintage Court Bag" on Mercari. The creed shows Made in Turkey with a Serial number A82 -9870. If I am not mistaken Coach did not start making bags in Turkey until after 1994 when the new serial number format was introduced, and plant codes were letters. I guess a different way of asking the question is was there a plant code in Turkey identified as "2" in 1998?
I *do* realize that it takes a lot more than a valid creed to authenticate but it seems like there are some obvious fake "tells" in some creeds. Please enlighten. And should I have posted this in the Authenticate this threat. I am not planning on purchasing the bag? Thank you.

Both the letter "I" and the number "2" were used as plant codes by the plants in Turkey.

For general questions about how Coach did things like creeds, serial numbers, etc, including things Coach DIDN'T do, you should read and remember where to find the six Salearea Coach Guides. It's a good idea to read the entire thread to see what other information is available. Don't worry if the links in the first few posts aren't working:

Thanks Hyacinth! I've read them all but clearly not closely enough. Been working my way through the old posts too. Once burned.....
So much useful information. There seems to less on plant codes and I "worried" about that bag.

It can take at least 2 or 3 readings of the Guides just for some of the more complicated details to start making sense. I wrote the darned things and I still go back and re-read them every few months just to keep my memory fresh.

I don't post plant code information because some codes were used for more than one plant, and because too many people who just skim the information assume that if a bag has the "right" plant code, it must be genuine. Plant codes need to be analyzed as just a small but critical part of a serial number and compared to known authentic examples in our files.

And like almost every detail in Coach bags, almost every "rule" or "usually..." in those Guides has exceptions, and sometimes plants and plant workers simply made mistakes.

I am looking at this red bag on Poshmark and wondering if the creed looks correct.
I compared the G1D creed on the bag to one that was authenticated earlier (black)
Noticing that fonts seem different on the serial number. For example the G, the 1 and the underline on the Zero are all different. Is this common?
seller is homelvig. Seems to be unresponsive to requests for dimensions needed to authenticate

Using this as an opportunity to learn. Would love input.

It's authentic. I think it is about 8 x 8 x 2 1/2 inches. Good catch on noticing the differences! Some of the busier plants had more than one stamp, which accounts for the differences.

ETA: We don't require dimensions for authentication, just for identification, and then only on bags that don't have a style number in the creed.
