Thank you!!
Aside from the difference between creed and price tag, would you mind to authenticate this bag? I posted yesterday but no one responded.
I responded..

I realize we're all anxious to get responses to our requests but especially on weekends and in the summer, we get busy and have outside lives. And now that life can include some family "contact," we might be even busier! I didn't get back home until late last night so didn't see the question until today.

Hi! Is this a good picture of the fake J4D font? I have a little 9965 I think is fake and I am trying to build a reference library of some common fakes. (The creed is the same, it's just two different photos).

We like (prefer) to see more than just a creed in order to make a call, but yes, it's fake.

Is there a listing from which you got your bag? Please post more pictures.

No listing, I got it at a garage sale this weekend. I figured it was fake based on the creed and a few other details (bought it for the strap and turnlock). I will take some good photos tomorrow and post them.

You should also include photos of confirmed genuine creeds and serials from exactly the same plant, month and year and if possible, style or style family, for comparison. Like this one:

Thanks so much for the good creed pic! Here are some photos of the bag. I think it definitely falls into the 'well done fake' category- real leather, decent to good stitching.
I believed the creed to be questionable and saw the 'solid brass' on the buckles and so figured it wasn't real. Here are some photos.

I'm actually keeping all of the 'good fakes' I have wound up with as a reference. I'm a really visual person and it helps me to be able to compare side by side. I'd love to know more about their history and where they were made.

Keep in mind, there are a few genuine bags from as late as around 2000 that still might have a Solid Brass buckle but they're all from one plant that was the recipient of all the leftover junk found in the drawers and storage bins of plants that were being permanently closed as Coach moved production to China. But we know what to look for and where those buckles ended up. And no, I'm not going to say where. I have a feeling that someone somewhere may still be making "vintage" Coach fakes and the less they know, the better. But yours is definitely a Foach.

Hi all,

I am new to vintage coach and came across this bag. It has been difficult fo me to figure out if it's real or not, but I wanted to see if my guesses are correct. It seems like they've included an older creed/serial number on a 90s bag (they've called it a penny, but it looks like a Legacy Rambler to me). Am I on the right track?

Please note - this is not the thread for authentications of specific individual items, just for authenticity questions in general. Straight authentication requests should be posted in the Authenticate This Coach thread following the format listed in Post number One of that thread and the READ ME post at the top of each page in that thread.

And no, it's not a Rambler's Legacy with a bogus creed and serial, it's a style called a Pocket Bag 9875 and made in the very late 1980s and early 1990s so the creed and serial number are correct for the years it was made. It's also quite a bit larger than a Rambler's Legacy.

And I have NO idea where they came up with that "Penny" name. That bag is about as close to a Penny as I am to Beyonce.

There are six Salearea Guides that are Pinned to the top of all the Coach Shopping index lists that can explain a lot about things like creeds and serial numbers as well as other details, facts and myths. I strongly recommend reading them - more than once, if you can stand it.

Thank you so much! I will go over them. I’m starting to feel like I’m studying for an exam lol

Greetings everyone,

After all of these years I'm still banging my head against the wall regarding this Murphy bag. It boggles my mind that someone would take the time to rip off the original design and then pass it off as authentic Coach. I asked for assistance about this bag eons ago on the previous authenticity thread and Hyacinth (I believe) graciously provided assistance. I'm just wondering if this is a special edition of this bag or just a plain knock off? And what do I do with it? This bag has been sitting in my closet all of these years gathering dust and I really don't want it infecting all of my lovely authentic vintage Coach bags. And the other thing that really makes me angry is that I purchased this from my local Goodwill - they seem to have a reputation for selling fake items. Thank you for any information you can provide!

It's a plain and simple fake. There are many things wrong with your bag, not just the nonstandard hardware. If they were to make a special edition, they would use the same stamping equipment, fonts and factory codes that they use for all other items made in the factory.
