What’s your unpopular Hermes opinion?

UO: the least expensive (and most popular) RTW pieces, like T shirts, and the most expensive ones, ranging from twillanes to high end runway pieces, are the worst buys from a quality and cost per wear POV. If the more prosaic tailored pants and jackets fit your build, they can be quiet yet complimentary workhorses.

Cashmere coats, while very popular, pill. Or perhaps I’ve just had bad luck with mine
Dark t-shirts lost color very quickly for me. Cashmere coats pilled within 3 months. Bad piling, they look like they are from 30 years ago.

Am I the only one that thinks the RTW prices for new collection are too high? All leather coats are close to $20k, if not more. The leather dress will be $19k! For a leather dress?
UO:

Im not buying much retail at these prices, but the massive silver lining is think of the enormous selection at the next several sample sales 😂

UO: as someone observed upthread, Hermes RTW was a relative bargain for a few years. This season, Loro Piana, seems like a better value for the same amount of money (I never thought I’d say that lol or that I’d rather have LP Gift of Kings separates than silk screened H silk, the latter at 1K more per item)

H skilled artisans spend hours creating bags that are not just beautiful but also functional and intended to last a lifetime; we, the consumers, happily spend many thousands of dollars to purchase one of these bags (either at resale or purchasing other items at H as we build a relationship with the house); and then apparently some B/K owners are hesitant to use said bag or worry about hurting it.

UO: failing to use these bags as intended suggests two things, neither good:
  • the artisans do not have the necessary skills to create a functional, sturdy bag worthy of its price tag and
  • we are complete morons for paying thousands of dollars for something so fragile that we are unsure that it can withstand regular daily use.
I love a slouchy Birkin which only earns its slouch through use which may explain why I feel this way

This 100%!! It's why I love bag spotting in Paris over London. Discounting the tourists, in Paris you'll see incredibly chic women (and men occasionally) wearing what I imagine to be their only (or one of just a couple) really good bag, they (look like) they've used it for years.. actually as a bag... for carrying stuff!!! In London it's more pristine mini Kellys, phone in hand, probably a collection at home. It's just not the same.
I appreciate this is ironic as I sell bag pillows, but I absolutely love a really used looking slouchy bag myself!
