What’s your unpopular Hermes opinion?

Hence my recent torn neckline on one my sweaters. And now that I remember, it happened on a knit dress from H a few years back too. Had both repaired by my local tailor. Quite annoying though. I will be avoiding those types of necklines going forward.

I remember seeing your photo a couple weeks ago about that!!!

I'm with you on avoiding this type of neckline :blah:

All the necklines are like this. I’m convinced it’s the waspy, horsey Hermes heritage to blame, and ours are unpopular opinions bc clearly they sell well. My oversized Asian head just stretches all of them out lol. It’s like breaking them in. :P

ETA: unpopular opinion (or experience) I do not try on these pencil necked RTW pieces unless I’m really quite sure I want to purchase. Bc I could easily damage one wrestling with it in a dressing room

Hermes bags may not be as popular as perceived, the past memorial weekend, I went into DC (and went to Pentagon too) and outside of DC for several days, and airports, not even once did I see anyone carrying a Hermes bag, I saw LVs, Guccis, and I carried Chanel (didn’t see anyone else carrying Chanel either in this trip), the most expensive LV bags I saw were Capuchins BB (about $5,500 and Empreinte Neverfull in giant monogram black and white (about $3,000), in last year I went in the White House, I didn’t see any Hermes either but I saw Gucci and LV.

The only times I saw Hermes bags were in area I live, but don’t see them often, most of people in my area carry LV Chanel, YSL, Gucci and even Balenciaga!

I went into DC Hermes store and asked a bag, was told can put in order and wait for 8 months.

I think Hermes “game” may come to hurt its sale. Yeah I know their revenue was higher than LV Chanel last year, but, there are lots of companies have super high revenues that we may not use their products, Hermes may isolate itself to people could have used their products, well, maybe they don’t want and they don’t care. Then it’s really doesn’t matter to us as consumers either.

Interesting observation. I might have to agree. I went to a fundraiser earlier today with whooping amounts being given through a paddle raise (like eye popping). Dress code was stated as business on the invite. All the ladies looked incredible. Tailored well fitting clothing, designer shoes, clearly expensive haircuts and not a single H bag! Literally not one (not even on me :amazed:). Lots of Chanel, mostly more obscure though- no medium flaps or Boy bags, some Gucci etc

UO: Hermes makes beautiful bags, but I honestly don't think any of them really work for dressy evening events, regardless of size.

Also, their clutch game is pretty weak (I'm looking at you Jige and bleargh, Kelly Cut...)

JMHO.
I totally agree. My favourite option for really dressy events (which I am lucky if I go twice a year) is those unbranded custom made satin clutches. I ve used my MK and a KP and I always feel as if I am trying to force the fit. It just doesn't seem right.

UO: despite the economy, I still see a bunch of bags in NYC. However, other members have stated that DC is more conservative in terms of old money dress code. So, I can imagine if I were attending an after hours event populated by corporate peers in DC, that an Hermes bag would still draw the wrong type of attention. Odd, when people still wear Chanel, but IDK

UO: I’ll wear an MKII depending on my outfit but usually casual to cocktail would be the range.

UO: For truly formal occasions, another option is no bag. i might just stick a lippie in DHs pocket. I keep intending to buy a classic stretch satin knot, but never get around to doing it

UO: It might be true of most H bags, but this under the radar little lizard H bag really works for truly formal occasions. You can also remove the strap and use it as a clutch. I paid $400 for it 20 + years ago, so per wear it has paid for itself many times over! But it barely fits my iPhone, which is the smallest phone on the market. So aside from a lip gloss, a credit card and the phone, it holds nothing.

I think the kelly pochette in full shiny exotic would work in formal occassions despite the shape of the bag being a pouch (like a toiletry/cosmetic pouch).

Both jige and kelly cut look underwhelming.

Mini K looks like a toy when not worn crossbody for the most part.

Medor clutch: especially in exotic: now we’re talking 😍

In dc it’s some old money dress code but a lot of it is political dress code (with the exception of g Santos) and people just thinking luxury is a waste of funds. You don’t see many of the old money carrying Chanel either. Some buy rtw but it’s more St. John and Oscar de la renta etc. it’s the young people carrying more of the designer bags and most often they’re not native Washingtonians. The very rich here don’t carry any bags either when they go to evening and formal occasions.

My uo- H does not branch out enough with their equestrian gear and play it too safe. Would love to see breeches and shirts with fun designs. Ice cream print on rtw? Tacky. On tech polos? Cute. The price point of riding items is also astronomical compared to other brands. Most people snapping up the saddle containers are not riders but clients using them for storage or display in their house. Think it’s nuts to pay so much for a bit of tin and paper just bc it has the logo. They look like glorified logo’d mini trashcans.

At the height of the mini Kelly craze there were tpf'ers who switched to the samsung flip phone. So that they could carry their phone in their bag again. As my love for microbags is bigger than my love for tech, I get it.
