UO: Reselling prespend seems to be ramping up again lately. And seeing clients make posts with “everything must go” and “closet clean out” really diminishes the brand’s cachet imo particularly with anything Avalon or mosaic related or chypre or orans and bride brac items. Throw in finesse necklaces and watches as well. It looks like a company chapter 11 liquidation. Are these people that desperate for a qb? I get letting go something every once in a while where it doesn’t work out but selling bnib like this? Come on.

Wow, such a strange situation created by outsized interest. I also don't understand the desperation. Bolded line above made me laugh!!

I have to ask - why would you buy all these if you dont want them? If they are authentic some are really lovely items and pricey too. Do people just go crazy trying to please their SA? I mean one blanket purchased may be viewed as a 'mistake', but two or three? How much are the blankets selling for?

No one is pretending that these are mistake purchases. It’s not uncommon to see resellers like this have 10 to 20 of one item. They buy to make pre-spend and then they sell for as close to retail as they can manage to get. Then they get some fabulous bag offer and typically resell that too for a large profit. Or they show off the bag and say that they didn’t have any prespend because in their minds, the prespend has all been re-purchased so it’s as if it never existed at all. It’s a full-time business.

oh I am glad you warned me - for a minute I did consider buying someone else's 'mistake' if the price was right. Sort of win win for everyone. However I would prefer NOT to support this sort of thing. I mean it looks like they hoovered the stock, bought all the wallets they would get their hands on.😟 I do remember being present in London when they refused to sell someone more than two wallets. Although he kept insisting they were Christmas gifts, now I have a better idea of the madness we are dealing with.

I’m surprised that it’s profitable. Many pre spend items resell for 50-70% off. Assume 2.5x prespend you get back ~$10k-$12k. And the going rate for say a B25 neutral, if bought from an individual, is around 21-23k?

These people aren’t angling for B25 neutrals, they’re going for B20s, mini Kelly’s, mini Kelly picnic etc. They also tend to buy items with closer to 90% return (bride a brac, Orans, Kelly belts, etc). I do think many of them do it for just bag acquisition anyway, not so much bag resale. They’d rather lose 20% straight cash value of the prespend than 100% of prespend but have items. It’s quite cringey and pathetic imo but lots of folks do it, even some big names around here. 🤷🏻‍♀️

and that's why my unpopular opinion (maybe popular) is that it it is extremely tacky to ask people what resale value of X item is on this forum...

Resellers like this seem delusional to me.

Why would anyone want to pay them 80-90% or whatever when many of the scarves, plates, cups, shoes, cardholders, belts, blankets, perfumes/lotions(?), etc. are current season or continuously restocked for purchase at boutiques and online directly from the Hermes website, which ships for free to almost anywhere and gives the buyer the satisfaction of knowing that the items are authentic, for a negligible price difference?

And why would these resellers believe that someone who likes these Hermes items enough to purchase them would want to help offset the reseller’s pre-spend instead of buying them directly from Hermes to build up their own pre-spend?

:shrugs:

I buy from some of these resellers. You can find new items discounted up to 80 percent. I didn’t have the best boutique experience in some places we shopped, so I am testing buying some items I really want on resale and using the savings to get the bags I want on resale too. I will let you know how it goes. Ultimately I believe I will save money, even for some of the blue box bags.

The resale market is down now, so it is a good time to do it. People are giving very high discounts to get rid of their prespend. There are some resellers that go to the store and buy what you want and you can negotiate a high discount percentage before.

Wow, well an 80% discount on authentic new items is a much different story and I can appreciate the appeal of that. Yes, please let us know how your adventure goes!

I get what you are saying and I agree with you. However, I happen to know quite a few friends who mostly buy from resellers. They just love the discount. To each of their own I guess.

And as someone told me, they profit through miles earned through credit card points too.
My uo: it’s so hard to use the birkin because it’s so conspicuous and attract unwanted stares. I feel like l have to dress/ act a certain way when l carry my birkin. Im hoping the walmart birkin gets everywhere so that people don’t care about birkins anymore

UO: Of course you can save money buying bags and other stuff judiciously through resale. I only recommend boutique shopping if you genuinely love non bag merchandise and would purchase it without the bag offer

UO: I see plenty of BK on the street. I actually think the Chanel classic flap is more flashy lol

UO: for those of us who wear sometimes flashy premier RTW combinations, a Blue box or exotic bag would be over the top (JMO re my own personal style) I do have a few blue box bags and wear them, but they are not the ones popularized on social media

Full disclosure: I would rather allot more of my budget to RTW than to super pricy exotics or Blue box. I’m relatively cheap that way. But I do think they can be lovely on others.
